Re: Shane Long
Said on another thread that it would have been a very good signing...four or five years ago. Into his thirties, game built around pace which will naturally decline. Another 30 something on a long term contract ? Got to be very wary of going too far down that road. We should be capable of younger and...

King from Bournemouth ? Dream on !
I'd be amazed if we end up with anyone other than Shane Long, would seem to be a perfect fit, 30 something, etc.

If it's true I'm waiting for the first blinkered to come along and say it was a genius masterstroke in getting his replacement in early with the signing of "Walts". Apparently just like it was when we signed Tarkowski to replace Keane.

Re: Gray to Watford story
We need two strikers if Gray goes, at least one should have pace - as it's a commodity we simply don't have, and I still think we need a no.10 type.
You can only assume we have replacements lined up in addition to that centre half and a wide player.

Oh, I agree - it's not all about spending. I was just trying to answer the question of the OP regarding budget. We've spent more money than at least 4 or 5 other Premier League teams. I don't think it can be properly judged until the end of the transfer window tbh. Can't imagine there were too many itching to spend on Walters and Bardsley. Not about how much we've spent, rather have we spent it wisely ? Time...

Last season at least we tried to buy a bit of quality even if as yet it has found it hard to express itself. But we didn't purchase any young players then. SD doesn't do young talent. I just wonder if after he's played a few games this season, and it's looking like there's a good chance he might, if people will be quite as positive as some are about him currently.

Some points here: When is Agyei being shipped out? O'Neill has gone on loan to hopefully get some regular football. You mean 'never' as in the 3 times he played him in the Premier League last season? I think we can assume he meant never again. I think it depends if you think Boyd was essential to the way we play or not. I liked him, but with Brady, Arfield, Gudmundsson, Defour and Walters he's what known as "surplus to requirements". The production line grinds to a halt when you stop producing. Craig Dawson would be 31 at the end of a 4 year contract.
