Re: Sky & TNT retain Premier League rights

There are other benefits to Sky other than the direct revenue from the rights sale. Primarily it is the constant 24/7 promotion of the PL, the pushing of the stories around the league, its clubs and personalities. Sky is a non-stop publicity machine for the league. There are indirect revenue advant...

I assume you have plucked £10 a month out of thin air. I highly doubt the PL could build a subscriber base from scratch, allowing for all the costs that come with running a service (we shall ignore also the slight issue of what happens when there is no PL over the summer) and achieve the same revenu...

We are bread and butter for established Premier League teams. Very nice to play against. There will be at least one major defensive mistake a game presenting a key opportunity. Whilst at the other end even when we do create clear cut chances we find them hard to convert.

Re: Sky & TNT retain Premier League rights

There may be a 70% increase in the number of matches to watch, but there is a negligible increase in the number we can watch live because the extra 70% are mostly at the same time as another match (eg. Sundays, or the last match of the season). Agreed, though, it's less than inflation, so the value...

The first red card of his career so he can’t be that bad considering he’s 27. Would have been ideal last season to hold the ball up. Next summer he shoul...

Not sure what your point is here as that's nothing we don't already know. There were plenty of people on here saying when we got promoted it was bittersweet because it means you have to go up to the PL. It's a necessary evil, using the PL money to keep a small club like this towards the top end of ...

If we can replicate Brighton's strategy why did Tony Bloom have to put so much money in the club if it's possible for other clubs to replicate what Brighton have done without his finances? We already are doing it. Really the only question now is whether we have a Cucurella, Mac Allister, Mitoma, Ca...

And just as an aside, our transfer strategy this season looks remarkably like a version of theirs from years past.

I guess the likes of Luton and Sheffield Utd will be looking at it with the same shock and awe you have for Brighton's strategy, and pondering the same barriers to entry.

But without the money in the first place (almost half a billion) they would never have got to where they are now. That's something we can never compete with. Not really. I'd rank all of our successful championship seasons above all of our premier league seasons bar the one we finished 7th. It does need emphasising though that Brighton have been funded to rhe tune of nearly half a billion to get to where they are now and they spent many millions on players who turned out to be complete duds before making good profits on others. This reminds me of our first season / Brian Laws version. Good Premier League teams sniff vulnerability and exploit it. We whiff of it from a mile away. I saw quite a few shifts in this game, showing Kompany does not have a fixed mindset. Bodes well:

Taylor at left back
More long passes when needed
Return of Robert's long throw
Brownhill's energy back in midfield.
General slowing of game in places where it was required
