I'd be surprised if many chose that season as their first.

I went to my first game in October 1987 so missed the very worst and was there from the start of the slow climb back. Going to Wembley at the end of that season was a bonus.

I started rebuilding a small wall in the garden that collapsed two years ago. I made some fine progress in the first week of lockdown but haven't revisited it since. Depends what the free agent hoped to gain by running their contract down. If their motivation was a big signing on fee in lieu of a transfer fee, then they may be disappointed. Likelihood is that the potential wages on offer three months ago will have dropped too.
