Brady. Sadly missed

Post by burnley007 » Sun Dec 17, 2017 8:18 am

With Brady in the side, we would have won yesterday.
It's so frustrating that the only irreplaceable player in the team is out for the season.

I can't see us getting a replacement in and up and running before Easter. It's such a shame.

Why not ?? The January window isn't far away and there will be plenty of championship players who will gladly play for us. Wouldn't be surprised if SD has his sights set already.

Defour, Cork, Tark? we have a few who'd be missed big time if their season ended. I thought before the Brady injury we needed a couple of additions, plan B,C,D winger being one of them.

But I agree, his pace and delivery will be really missed.

We were saying that yesterday too, infact Ward was probably missed more as we had absolutely nothing on the left going forward.
I don't know who's available but we need someone there from January

Agree with cockney. I was a little disappointed with Taylor going forwards.

We're not missing his delivery from set pieces because JBG's is better. (imo).

A couple of the free kicks yesterday were very good from JBG.

Agree... the general performance attacking wise since he went off injured at Leicester has certainly dipped.

We look much less fluid and dangerous. Hope we have someone lined up in Jan to replace to really give us a strong chance of top 7.

7 points and 3 clean sheets while he has been out.Suggests we are not missing him very much.Amazing when players leave or get long term injuries they suddenly become world beaters but while they are playing we get threads calling for them to be dropped.

I'm not saying we're struggling. Just that I don't think we have anyone who offers the same ability to open up teams like Brady could.

Were missing the balance of a left footer on the left, a player who always wants the ball even in tight situations which takes immense pressure off other players and his delivery.

I struggle to wonder why JBG does not operate on the left (at least some of the time) ? He's a natural on his left foot and when on the right always cuts inside - very predictable and slows down the delivery

Disagree completely - he's been very effective cutting inside and crossing on his so called weaker foot. He's far from predictable because of his obvious excellent change of pace.

Brady's replacement Arfield has scored a winner, set up a winner and but for two good saves from the Brighton keeper would have scored a winner yesterday.

A player who can float between the lines and could play on the left would be gold dust for our squad if we could bag someone in Jan.

Someone with real quality.

Ziyech, the guy from Depor etc we’ve been linked with similar in the past, here’s hoping

Arfield has been very good at what he does since he came in. And im a big fan. But theres no doubt we miss brady. His name on the sheet alone makes teams think and defend differently. They know how direct, quick, tricky and creative he is.

We also massively miss the understanding that he has with ward and hendrick.

In fact wards ability going forward is massively understated.

We definitely miss him but it's fair to say he got injured when his star was at its highest. A few weeks before there were plenty questioning if he should be dropped.

Either way, Arfield has done what he always does when he comes in. We've not conceded a goal since he got back in the side, in addition to the goal and assist. Every side loses key players, we can't have a like for like in every position, just as Man Utd can't replace Pogba.

We've definitely lost attacking threat on the left - the absence of Ward has been really telling and exposes us defensively too.

Providing he's back soon I think we are solid with Arfield in front and will definitely be hard to beat over the Christmas/New Year period. Bearing in mind we're not likely to see too much of the ball against Spurs, United and Liverpool - Arfield might have been the better bet anyway. The Huddersfield game however is the one where we are likely to miss him the most.

Think we'll definitely see a left-sided attacking player arrive during the window.

We seem to have reverted to a less attractive brand of football since Robbie got injured. We have been playing more like last year, more hoof and less quality.

The performances at Bournemouth, Swansea etc. Revolved around JBG and Brady being two wide, quick, direct wingers. We were playing some really top stuff.
Recently against Watford, Brighton, stoke etc. We have seen more hoofball.

Really hoping for a Brady replacement.

Hoping for someone who could come in and replace Brady, and then when he is fit challenge both wingers and maybe even Hendrick.

Been very inconsistent this year. Would be better off going for someone younger as well.

We miss the tempo. With Brady the tempo was upbeat and we passed it around midfield almost to the beat of a metronome. As much as I love Arfield he tends to get it, put his head down and run, which breaks our rhythm

Still think we miss Trippier to some extent.

We've defo missed Robbie, but don't fret about his replacement.

The January transfer windows just round the corner.

We signed Brady in the last 'en!

We do miss Brady’s flair and his set pieces ,and his left foot ads a nice balance to the side.Without him we have to revert a bit more back to holding rather than pushing I’d say. We’re despetately short on goals and he does give us that edge .Not to say the “meat n potatoes “ of what Scotty offers isnt adequate (it is) but with Hendrick very flat atm we just need a bit of spark to push on through the possibly season defining “top of the table” ( it’s true) battles over Xmas.

Arfield was never the answer to our left sided problem
He is too dithery and inconsistent on the ball.
We need better quality and pace and no doubt Sean has someone in mind to fill the huge hole left by Robbies injury.
One solution maybe to have Wardy at left back supported by Charlie Taylor who is an excellent crosser playing wide left

But if he played on the left, the predictability would still be there. The defender would attempt to block any runs down the left and force him inside.

No doubt he has the most flair of anybody we have. But I don't get the argument over these past 3 games.7 points? I will throw one in I think we would of had 5 points because Brady would not of finished that chance against Watford taking it round the defender he would of lashed it first time!

Look at his finish at Blackburn, probably harder than arfield a at Watford.

And it's not just the individual moment, if we had Brady in the side having us play like we did at Bournemouth we would have won all 3 games easily enough.

Yes a defenders job (if he can't win the ball) is to slow down play and make play predictable. Text book defending is to "show someone" outside not inside towards goal. So if JBG played on the left he could either be forced inside towards goal (nice position to be in for a forward) or forced outside onto his best crossing foot (also nice). I'm not critical of JBG, but I think if he were allowed to operate on the left he could put in an earlier cross and not be so predictable. As we have lost Brady I think this would be affective.

In 15 Premier League appearances this season he's scored one goal and provided two assists.

I think some people have gone a bit too far in the overvaluation of an injured player syndrome.

We havent missed Brady in terms of result but we have in style of play. Brady has been vital to the way Cork and Defour have been able to pass and move the ball about because he is always coming and showing for the ball and able to take it and keep possession in tight situations. Since his injury teams can press Cork and Defour easier and we are tending to have to pass backwards and go long like we used to.

Also we missing the way Brady presses the opposition high up the pitch and forces them to lose possession. He is really sharp at suddently biting at someones ankles very much like Ings used to do at his best.

As we have seen with the loss of the fullbacks, Heaton and Mee we are such a strong organised unit under Dyche we seem to be able to adapt and find a way to win whatever the players. Its a shame though as the midfield four of JBG, Cork, Defour & Brady was looking so perfectly balanced and we were starting to look like a real top 8 footballing side playing teams off the park.
