No longer the best but she's 80 today

Post by ClaretTony » Tue Nov 26, 2019 10:52 am

Posts start on this message board recording birthdays for some musical geniuses and while no musical genius, she was fantastic live and today Tina Turner celebrates her 80th birthday.

I've chosen this link because I was there at the NEC in Birmingham the night when a musical genius did join her on stage.

Very underrated woman... and a icon for many. Her relationship history alone would sink most, yet she came back bigger and stronger. One of a breed of African Americans who refused to go away. She could sing a bit too.

Happy birthday Ms Turner

I was there to at the NEC that night as well Tony. Fantastic show that I didn’t think could be any better and then onto the stage came David Bowie.
I was also there for her one and only appearance at the Imperial Ballroom in Nelson for The Ike & Tina Turner Show.
In total I’ve been to five live shows. Thanks for the memories Tina. Happy Birthday.

I'm not a huge fan of the recorded music of TT (or Bowie for that matter) but saw TT live at Woburn Abby around 1990. I was pretty much coerced into going to that show by some workmates but it was a fantastic performance; Ive been to hundreds of gigs over the years but remember that one very fondly.

I was at Woburn Abbey too. Thankfully the weather was fantastic that day. What an amazing setting for a concert.

Saw her on a chat show a while ago. Unreal how different she looks now. It’s great when you can remember an artist in their prime when they bow out gracefully rather than pretending they can still do it...a certain P Mcartney should take note..

Tina was a great performer no doubt about that..

I was living/working in South Wales at the time. I had a company car and was "the driver". By the time I got out of the car park there, drove back to Wales and dropped everybody off, I had about 1 hours sleep before having to get up for work. Worth it though, as you say- great concert in a great location on a nice day..

She does look a bit different facially because of having suffered a stroke. She’s also had a kidney transplant.
