Trippier

Post by bartons baggage » Thu Dec 29, 2016 6:14 am

Should we? could we? would we?.
I'd have him back, and i think he would come back.
We can afford him,a no risk signing as far as i'm concerned.

Not sure we could afford him, even if he did want to come back. His weekly wage at Spurs will be well outside our wage structure.

I'd at least enquire. Tripps liked us, we liked him. He is exactly the player we are missing for the system we are playing.

When he went to Spurs Walker looked overweight and off the pace and I thought Tripps would easily get to be number 1 choice and I'm sure he backed himself to do it too.

However that is not how it has panned out, now Trippier appears to have zero chance of displacing a rejuvenated Walker.

Given how much he wanted to play I can imagine him being totally hacked off.

Money isn't everything and whilst we could only offer him something in our pay structure I still think he would take it. The issue would be with Spurs. He is a perfectly adequate backup and therefore they would expect top dollar if we wanted him back.

He gets most of the European nights. That might be enough for him with the chance of Walker pulling up lame getting him league games.

Walker's yellow card last night rules him out of Spurs next game against Watford,
so presumably Trippier will come in.

This is why they won't consider letting him go.

Lovely, so the only barriers to him signing would be

a) Spurs not having another RB
b) Spurs being notoriusly difficult to get good deals out of
c) A vague feeling that he would accept a significant wage cut.

That's leaving out him having a bit of sense and seeing where our cards have fallen at the end of the season.

Let's get it done!

I'm a massive fan of Trippier and would welcome him back anytime. But the lad's moved on and I'm sure he would sooner fight for his chances to play there than come back to Burnley.

We need a striker or winger. Our existing midfield players need to improve their ability to service the strikers.

I suspect that Kieran will move next summer. He was one of the most enthusiastic players I've ever seen, the sort of lad who'd play until he dropped if his boss asked him to. Fair play to Walker who has improved considerably since Kieran joined Spurs. I think he'll want to be playing football regularly again by now. He won't leave until they find another right-back so I don't see him going anywhere else in January.

What wage is Tripps on ?

I would think we are paying Defour and Hendrick (and possibly Keane) between £30k and £40k a week. Is Tripps on much more ?

It was reported that that the contract we offered Keane was £40k a week.

BBC Sport on Spurs victory away at Watford:

'...Trippier, in for the suspended Kyle Walker, impressed on just his third league appearance of the season and underlined the strength in depth at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham repeatedly used Kieran Trippier on the right flank, and his early quality was telling
The former Burnley player was a constant outlet - having more than 100 touches - and his early assists allowed Kane to show the ruthlessness of his finishing...'

I'd be pleased to see Kieran Trippier as first choice for Spurs - and in Gareth Southgate's England team - alongside Michael Keane and in front of Tom Heaton both of Burnley.

Have to confess to tuning in to watch the Watford v Spuds game today purely 'cos Tripps was starting, sorry if that is bad but would love him back here, loved the fact he played so high up but I know it was probably a good team for him to play against.

Spurs aren't going to let him go. Full backs are an important part of their formation and they're not going to get a back up full back who suits their system as well as Trippier

True.

Those two assists for Kane today were as good as you will see anywhere in the world.

hang on, one pass to kane and one cross doesn't merit world class.he usually doesn't play. good as it looked, bit of perspective eh?

It makes perfect sense. Just like Heaton made a world class save at Old Trafford but I wouldn't consider him world class.

I get that this is difficult for you to understand.

Trippier is capable of world class passes as he showed today but he is not a fully rounded world class footballer. Yet.

Are we getting there?

Not sure when his contract runs out but if there is no guarantee of a regular place he should look at moving on, sure some other Prem club would want him. Short career and with that talent it's wasted as a reserve.
