Tom Cleverly
Burnley are monitoring Tom Cleverly situation. The midfielder has managed only 2 minutes this season under Koeman. Dyche wants to add to his CM armoury this window.

Not a fast tricky winger..
Re: Tom Cleverly
Never rated him, but that was in comparison to players around him at Utd/Everton. I'm not sure how he'd compare to Marney/Hendrick/Defour in terms of ability here though.

Re: Tom Cleverly
Feels like a good fit for me.
Not long since in the England set-up, lost his way a bit and, crucially, Dyche worked with him at Watford. A player still young enough to get a lot better. Could be more of a long term prospect, especially if Defour leaves at the end of the season which sadly looks on the cards.

If we could manage to get him I'd be delighted, at 27 he's probably at his peak so will want to be playing regular football.

Re: Tom Cleverly
We won't be looking for one. He will cost far too much and besides, bigger teams than us will be ahead of us in the queue for such a player.Saxoman wrote:Not a fast tricky winger..
What we WILL be looking for is a midfielder who can run box to box for 95 minutes per game, twice a week. Defensive minded with an eye for a good forward defence splitting pass. The second part of that final sentence is negotiable. We might not like it, but we have to be prepared to defend for a good long time yet. This is the premier league, and it's hard to compete without spending silly money.
Re: Tom Cleverly
Is he a northern lad? Might see us as a good move.
Local to his current home and still in the premier league. Could be a mid table side in 12 months.

I don't think dyche has any interest in a 'fast tricky winger' either.. I was being a little sarcastic..bobinho wrote:We won't be looking for one. He will cost far too much and besides, bigger teams than us will be ahead of us in the queue for such a player.

A bit unfair as we had Lloyd Dyer last season, who has now linked up with Marvin at the Brewers.bartons baggage wrote:Ha ha we wouldn't know what to do with one,if we got one.

Not sure where the 2 minutes comes from in OP. He's had four starts and six sub appearances this season in Premier League.

Wouldn't add to what we already already have IMO, we need somebody with pace and a bit of 'trickery', ideally with a gambling addiction.

Re: Tom Cleverly
The only reason to sign Tom Cleverley is because of his missus.
Bang average player, file under Fabian Delph, Jack Rodwell, Ryan Mason, Jonjo Shelvey. Probably will end up at Newcastle.

Jonjo Shelvey's a cracking player, better midfielder than anything we currently have. Shame he's a dickMrTopTier wrote:The only reason to sign Tom Cleverley is because of his missus.

Like other members have already stated, I'd be happy with TC - I think he'd be a very good fit for our system.
Not sure how affordable his wages would be though.

Re: Tom Cleverly
Probably a good signing for us, he has a lot of energy bit similar to Hendrick in my view. Clearly the type of midfielder dyche wants and for that type of player he wouldn't be a bad signing. Not sure on wages tho

Well we were looking for a fast tricky winger in the last window.

While we're all discussing this, who on earth is Dean Jones? and what is Bleacher report? I highly doubt we'd be able to afford him but I've no idea who Dean Jones is, is he accurate or another stab in the dark type?

Re: Tom Cleverly
This is someone who has played 13 times for England.
I mean, i know its not a vintage generation, and i know Cleverley has lost his way a bit since the last of those caps, but are we really at the point of saying full England internationals who are still in their prime arent up to our standard? Seriously?

Re: Tom Cleverly
Not sure I understand the negativity with this one.
Cleverly would absolutely improve our first 11, he is an upgrade on Dean Marney. Lost his way at Everton a bit, perhaps, but the ability is there.
Can only assume it would be a loan as he will be on mega bucks at Everton (minimum 50k a week).

Re: Tom Cleverly
Lets be honest, he hasn't looked a good player throughout his career has he? I agree with you though, a player with his pedigree must have something maybe he's just underrated by fans (abit like Jordan Henderson)claretspice wrote:This is someone who has played 13 times for England.

Re: Tom Cleverly
To be fair his career has been going backwards since playing for England - and many would say he should never have been in the England side let alone win 13 caps.claretspice wrote:This is someone who has played 13 times for England.

Cleverley is on big money and he cannot be pulling up many trees at Everton with being so far down the packing order in a midfield where Koeman has introduced a couple of midfielder this season from their youngsters ahead of Cleverley.
He may well be better than Marney, Arfield and Boyd but not sure he would make a huge difference or whether it would be worth shelling out £50k a week for him. But if Dyche thinks he's good enough to improve our chances of staying up then thats fine by me.
