4 starts and 3 sub appearances this season. Liverpool might want Flanagan back. Not a sexy signing but good depth.

this would be a fantastic signing for us, would also attract commercial interest abroad...big star at home due to his success and clearly very talented player who can only improve us. Exciting times to be a claret with Defour a similar mould, get him in if possible!

"Nobody said anything about him being a bipedal, FF - he's ambidextrous, which means he can take a throw-in with both hands"
But can he do it with both feet on the ground at the same time?

Santon can stay in Milan. He's failed there twice and any notions of how to defend were well and truly eradicated whilst on Tyneside.

Going off some of the EU drama queens on here, that'll be about 40 million pounds won't it?

Inter fans on Twitter cannot wait to see the back of him. One comment I saw claimed he was as fast as a sprinter but doesnt understand what his legs are supposed to do.
On the face of it, he looks an amazing signing just because of his career history etc, but still worth nothing how fans of his current club feel.

To be fair to him he does play for Inter, one of the biggest teams in Europe. Fair to say they will have higher expectations for him

Be good if we can get this over the line . Not only will we be getting a player that can play Lb and Rb but also a player that can play down any wing . Im not saying dyche will do this but it is a good option to have . With us being linked with another winger chances are we could end up with 2

You can see from the YouTube video that he can run, sprint past people but has no final product.

Italian teams are built on defence first so make no mistake this guy can and will defend. People forgetting he's a RB/LB what sort of end product are we expecting? He's not a striker for goodness sake. Also be good to put our name out there in the Asian countries this guy is a household name.

They're expecting Trippier-esque style crosses from any full back we have.

A few crosses, or 'assists' as the kids are obsessed these days.
What I think he will bring though is a better transition from defence to attack.

I never cease to be amazed by the depth of knowledge that people on here have about any whisper of a signing. We had the Tom Cleverly experts and now we are already writing this guy off.

Agree but think our wingers need to take some responsibility and step up as we need more from them rather than our fullbacks.

This guy surely represents a step up in quality; certainly on paper he does.
The guy has 90 odd caps for Japan for starters and they're a good team. He's also played 185 times for Inter Milan since 2010-2011. That might only represent around 25 games a season (clearly he's a squad player) but who else in our squad has that amount of top level experience? Barton and Defour maybe?
If you strip out the Cup appearances and add in his half a season on loan at Cesena in Serie A he's actually made 163 appearances in the Italian top flight. You don't do that, especially at a club like Inter Milan, if you're a poor player.

Barely played at all this season, obviously he isn't the same player he was 3 years ago or he'd be playing and we wouldn't have a sniff of getting him. I'd rather we targeted younger foreign players, to give them time to develop/settle but with quality to push the first team immediately. There's no point wasting money on over the hill foreign players because they used to be good.

Could be a number of reasons why he has featured less this season. Saying he's over the hill without watching him play (I assume you havent) is a bit much.

Struggling to think of a diminutive full back who has been asked to adapt to an alternative top European league at 30+ and done well.
Hopefully he retains his pace, balance and agility for a while.

Can't get excited about this one. Don't see him as the pacey creative type of player we need. In fact I'm still waiting for a decent rumour to start, the likes of Gradel, Cleverly etc. aren't cutting it.
Maybe I'm just expecting too much.

He looks a very good player, both in attack and defence. Can't believe we have Burnley fans slating the potential signing of an Inter Milan player.
Can't see it happening though. Defour aside (which almost didn't happen) we just don't sign players of this quality.

Burnley potentially signing an inter Milan player with 90 odd caps for his country, and people still can be negative
He will certainly be on par if not better then what we have already
How about we don't sign anyone and be negative?

Which is my point, us signing an Inter Milan player and 90 capped international says it all for me, shows he's past it.

Inter Milan player? that's pushing it, he doesn't play for them these days. He used to be good, one of the better fullbacks in the world imo, the fact I rated him highly years ago, he now doesn't feature for Inter and the fact we could possibly be signing him sets off the alarm bells for me.

Bolton made a virtue of signing ageing players from overseas. However, they were players to suit their style and even the ballers had plenty about them physically.
My point about his size is that he's not going to be able to rely on brute strength to see him through the remainder of his career. He'll need to retain the attributes that have seen him have a good career at a high level. I'm not saying he won't, just that it's a big ask, particularly whilst also trying to adapt to a new country/league.

No matter who the player is in question, the usuals can't help themselves.
