Sunderland highlights

Post by Spijed » Sat Jan 07, 2017 7:41 pm

Now on-line for anyone interested.

Vokes missed a good chance and so did Barnes. Darikwa looked to shove Defoe in the back and could have given away a penalty.

Cheers for that. A bad day for Nick Hope, Page, Pope. Hopefully they'll all know who he is if Tom ever leaves us.

Highlights show more chances for Sunderland but Burnley had the 3 best chances from Vokes, Tarkowski and Barnes. We were clearly the better side on the day.

That save by Nick was as good as Sam's miss was bad.
Think I miss the replay but looking forward to the 4th Round draw now.

Darikwa was fortunate to get away with not giving a penalty away there. Anywhere else on the pitch and it would have probably been a foul.

Bad misses from Vokes and Barnes, pleased to be getting another home game though, well done boys.

We had a big debate with the Darikwa incident and I thought, at the time, it was as pen. I don't think I'll change my mind having seen those short highlights. I have to say they make Sunderland look a hell of a lot better than they were, seems they've managed to find everyone of their attacks.

Watching the highlights, think had the pen been given, wouldn't have been many arguments.
But hey, we've had a few similar, even more clear cut, not given already this season.

What about the Burnley penalty claim?? According to CT and Clarets Player we should have had a pen but the incident wasnt even shown. It maybe just the highlights are short or Is this just another conspiracy against giving us a pen or just CT and Clarets Player wearing their claret tinted glasses?

Defoe stuck his back into Darikwa playing for a penalty which was not given because it wasn't one. Good refereeing.

Not a pen for me, he waited for a slight touch and chucked himself over!

Wasn't it a dive that the ref blew up for? If so he should have booked him!

Clumsy defending from Darwika, which is par for the course. Got the benefit of the doubt but he's lucky (and so are we) it wasn't given as a penalty.

Really poor misses from Gray and Barnes. The sort premier league strikers should score, or at least miss whilst looking likely to to score. Neither showed much conviction. Still think a better link man ought to be on our january wish list, and that's why.

He's quick, but he needs to be because he's caught out of position for too frequently for a premier league full back, and he's far too clumsy generally in his defending. Defoe may have been trying to draw the foul, but Darwika is pretty obliging and had the penalty been given I'm not sure we could have complained.

Only seen it once but doesn't he clearly win the ball?

Did well to get back, was Defoe booked for deliberate handball? Ref must have had balls to blow up for that cos usually they take the easy route and just give the attacker the benefit of the doubt.

Defoe knew he was running out of field so made a be-line to get in the box, as soon as his feet were inside the white line he slowed dramatically knowing Darwika would make contact..... Defoe then took the opportunity to go down.
If that had been given, it would have been a case of a Penalty being won rather than a Penalty being awarded due to a deliberate foul.

GREAT DECISION BY THE REF!
Should have booked Defoe for either simulation or deliberate handball, I wouldn't have been too fussed which one he'd have chosen :)

Only seen it on TV - thought it was a foul but also seemed to be outside the box?

He did well to keep Defoe outside him, and Keane was in a good position having recovered from getting turned easily (which was actually the cause of the situation). But we were lucky not to concede the penalty.

It happened right in front of me and I thought it was a pen. It was definitely in the box, Defoe was looking for it and used his experience to cut across Darikwa looking for a clumsy touch from a defender. Darikwa obliged. Reminded me of the one at home to Birmingham last season - would have been soft but silly, naive defending in my opinion. Defoe had no support and was going nowhere.

I think Vokes, Gray & Barnes should use similar tactics as we don't get that many penalties.

Anywhere else on the pitch, Defoe wouldn't of thrown himself to the floor!

and here's me thinking Darikwa was in a great position to cover for Keane getting done by Defoe.
