FA Cup Attendances
I read with some interest on other threads about the problems with season tickets and cup matches. Sunderland have a massive following and usually get close to selling out at home, even with the rubbish they've been watching for the last 5 years.
I wonder what the attendance will be for the replay on the Turf? 6k? 8k?
Then I put the Cardiff v Fulham game on iplayer...... http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/football/38241544" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Am I watching a youth team game or a training session!
A real shame for the FA Cup. I feel disappointed by the likes of Eddie Howe downgrading the importance. Modern times, I suppose.

Re: FA Cup Attendances
We live in a financial world and the sky propaganda machine has worked very well in dumbing down the public to only think the premier league matters. They are over the moon on sky sports news that attendances are down compared to League games.
I can't wait until the semi finals and final produce attendances higher than any premier league game, I will ram it down their throats.

It has been highlighted by the media and for whatever reason is now an issue. The F.A cup is seen as an inconvience for teams in the prem, possibly because of the pressure to perform in the league.

Here's an indicator of how the importance of the FA Cup has waned over the years.
21 February 1979 Round 4 Burnley 1-1 Sunderland 20,852
26 February 1979 Replay Sunderland 0-3 Burnley 37,507
Both teams were in Division 2. In the final league game of that season at the Turf against Millwall the attendance was 5,837.

James, Morley and Kindon got the goals in the replay from memory. I went to the home game.Stan Tastic wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2017 12:50 pmHere's an indicator of how the importance of the FA Cup has waned over the years.

The home game was postponed over a dozen times before it was finally played and ended in a draw. Fletcher, Ingham and Kindon scored the goals in the replay. Two days later we lost 3-0 at Liverpool in the next round.

Re: FA Cup Attendances
It's not Sky, the FA Cup was diminished long before they appeared. It was a big competition when there was no televised football (live) at all other than the cup final but BBC & ITV showing live games in the 1980s had a huge effect.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sun Jan 08, 2017 12:11 pmWe live in a financial world and the sky propaganda machine has worked very well in dumbing down the public to only think the premier league matters.
