Old BFC fanzine
Old BFC fanzine
Looking through "Kicker Conspiracy" fanzines from 1996 & does anyone know the guy who fronted it.He lived in Huddersfield & now lives in Bacup? I live in Leeds & used to live in Bacup & want to know if he would like them back as I'm chucking them(after reading them,of course!).
Re: Old BFC fanzine
I've got some old Kickers kicking around with a pile of Bob Lord's Weiners, I remember the chap being from Huddersfield, I always enjoyed those publications.

Peter Heywood lived in Huddersfield and was one of those involved with Kicker Conspiracy but not seen him for a good few years now.

Re: Old BFC fanzine
Madpete - his name was (perhaps still is) Dave Pollard. Jim Park also wrote the odd piece for it. I'm sure I saw Jim at the Turf a few weeks ago. Anne Whalley was involved too.
By the way, if you're also chucking out any Bob Lord's Sausage fanzines, can you see if you've got the one with the orange cover (I think it was Issue 5)? I used to edit it and it's the only one I don't have in the archive. Or, in other words, it's the only one that fully sold out! I lost the original proofs in a house move about ten years ago.

Dave Pollard I don't know, but the others I do although I've not seen Jim or Anne in donkey's years either.
Re: Old BFC fanzine
Didn't Anne and Jim use to holiday in mad places like Iran?
They might show up on an episode of banged up abroad

Re: Old BFC fanzine
Unlike the rest of the Kicker Conspiracy crew, Dave wasn't active in CISA. In fact, he was pretty caustic in his view of CISA which came across loud and clear in later issues of KC. I got the impression that KC eventually folded because they all fell out over this.ClaretTony wrote:Dave Pollard I don't know, but the others I do although I've not seen Jim or Anne in donkey's years either.
Re: Old BFC fanzine
That's a blast form the past. Last edition was April 1999. I also co-edited the fanzine. It folded as it had run it's course. Three years 15 editions. Anne and Jim still go on the turf I've seen them at the turf and Accrington this season. The fanzine was just fun and we tried to have a laugh. We did boycott the CISA boycott as a joke. I like to go under cover myself as I did at the Etihad as I stood next to ClaretTony as he bought his ticket for the.Metro. Not seen Dave or Pete for a bit though. In it's prime we were selling 1,000 copies an issue.

1000 copies? I dream of those figures now!
That said, issue 130 is out on Saturday, and we have been going for 17 years, which isn't bad?!

The last time I saw Pete was at Derby but it's a good few years ago now, probably before the first promotion. Anne & Jim used to post on the board but took their bats and balls home after BigDave tried to poke fun at them over a game at Preston when they turned up just as the game was finishing because they didn't know the kick off had been brought forward.

I didn't know that. Yes you weren't too complimentary about the touch screen

You have alot of online competition . Was all paper basedwhen we did it. Took us hours to print and put together a template for the printer.whentheballmoves wrote:1000 copies? I dream of those figures now!

Hat's off to you, Barnsey. I don't know how you keep it going. We canned Bob Lord's Sausage in 2001 because it just got more and more difficult to get an issue out. In the end there were only two of us doing any writing. I miss the buzz of selling it on a match day though.
Keep up the good work.

Sorry to CTID for stealing his post but there was a thread on the board a few years ago recalling old fanzines. Someone asked if anyone could remember Bob Lord's Sausage and CTID replied with: HILDA

17 years. Wow. Has it been that long?! I think I've been writing for you (on and off!) for 15 of those. 130 issues is mighty impressive in this day and age pal.whentheballmoves wrote:1000 copies? I dream of those figures now!

I only started writing because I enjoyed reading the fanzine's that went before; from No Nay Never to Marlon's Gloves and the others already mentioned... so thank you to all the contributors of those publications, you stirred up the writer in me ha ha, whether that's a good thing or a bad thing I'm not sure!!
Re: Old BFC fanzine
It took some selling we had four selling at home games and sold at away games. Also sold it in various outlets including Manchester and London. Must admit did enjoy selling it got some good banter.Sausage wrote:Thejker, our best sales were 700.

Best bit for me was just having fun and people taking it serious. We claimed to be Burnley's largest supporters group in one issue even though there were just four of us but anyone who bought it was also a member. Got a few comments from that when selling.
Same for us after 3 years was too much to continue.

Yeah, someone threatened to punch my lights out when we were selling outside the Racecourse Ground in 1997. They'd taken exception to our suggestion on the front cover that Chris Waddle might actually be a crap manager.Thejkr wrote:Best bit for me was just having fun and people taking it serious.

Great thread. CTID's one word response, HILDA, was without doubt the funniest reply ever.
Really hope that links can be made and that Dave Pollard (MK2) can be found!

Fantastic that we still have a well-written, well-edited and well-supported fanzine going. It's well appreciated.whentheballmoves wrote:1000 copies? I dream of those figures now!

I'm fairly certain I've got the Orange edition of BLS and if I can find it you can have it.
However, I live abroad now and only get back to the UK very infrequently. If you see that me posting on here that I'm over or a game remind me of this promise and I'll make a note to have a look for it when I get back. I think it's among my stuff but I can't be sure.

Was Dave Pollard the guy that opened a memorabilia shop in either Nelson or Colne around 1993/94? If so, I wrote a few articles for the fanzine he was responsible for. Think he might have been involved outside the ground for the 3.33 protest in 1995 by setting off a firework to signal the start of the protest. Apologies if I'm way off the mark here, though.

Re: Old BFC fanzine
Sausage,
only got one orange issue 5,Aug '98 as I bought them as & when.
Reached biblical age & trying to get my affairs/house tidy, so instead of letting them collect dust in readiness for taking them with me to the afterlife to read at leisure,I'm reading them now'
Started with"The 29th"(1 copy) - "The Claret Flag"(5 copies) - "Longside Loyalist"(2 copies.)
Also got "Kicker Conspiracy"(11 copies) - "Marlon's Gloves"(11 copies) - "Forever & a day"(3 copies) - "Who ate all the pies"(13 copies) - "No nay never"(15 copies) & the legendary "Bob Lord's sausage"(8 copies.)
If I intend to read them all I might need a dispensation from him above(Bob Lord?) to complete the task.
I've also most of Barnes'y excellent organ(not all unfortunately!)

I think the guy you're talking about is Dave Cooper. He edited the "Who ate all the pies" fanzine.Silkyskills1 wrote:Was Dave Pollard the guy that opened a memorabilia shop in either Nelson or Colne around 1993/94? I bumped into him just before Christmas and was surprised to hear that he hasn't been on the Turf for about six years!

Love fanzines, I was an avid buyer, a good issue is like a great page on this board.
Re: Old BFC fanzine
Lovely reading through these postings from 2017 plus the immediate ones.I’m always saddened that there is almost zero interest in any printed stuff on various sports/niche interests nowadays as the web/internet is the source for our five minutes of fame!
Couldn’t interest anyone at my running club for half a dozen sports injury books & copies of “The Fellrunner.” The BFC fanzines have met a similar fate. Not divesting every item as some are worth keeping for example that season, about ten years ago, when each programme had a centre programme from 1960(facsimile,of course!) Either I try to do it myself or the skip will be outside when I ascend to those green acres known as the heavenly Turf!
