That is some bloody achievement. Well done to the board, again! In terms of operating profit that places Burnley fifth in England, behind Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City

Re: Burnley Most profitable!
I don't think it is in the least bit surprising. The commitment to being a club which is on a sustainable footing in the event of relegation to the Championship is always going to result in a huge profit whilst we are in the Premier League.
The challenge is making sure that the cash pile we are developing is properly invested. As it happens, as a football club we operate in one of the best markets for investments, giving the ever-spiralling transfer market. No time like the present.

How? A team who gains promotion to the PL and spends next to nothing on transfer fees (rightly or wrongly) will be making a huge profit. It's not really complicated stuff, in fact common sense.IAmAClaret wrote:Proves how little you understand/know.

Just to bring everyone back down to earth, these figures are 18 months out of date, so a bit of a pointless exercise really.
When we eventually release our accounts to Jun'16 a break-even situation or even a small loss is likely.

If we get relegated this season, hopefully we don't hear the same ''look at the profit we made'' garbage we heard last time from the board after suffering relegation. Bragging about profit made after relegation for signing League One standard players and not backing our manager didn't sit well with me.

Transfer fees are spread over the lifetime of a player's contract, so they don't have as big an effect on profit as you infer.KRBFC wrote:How? Looking back I'm shocked at how fans on here were completely fine with us signing Sordell, Reid, Juke after promotion heading into a PL season. The board got away scot free, no questions asked. It's quite funny now, Marvin Sordell (who was loaned from Bolton to Charlton, both who were fighting relegation in the Championship) gets a PL moveclaretdom wrote:Do you ever have a day off being a ****

We planned and budgeted for 1 season in PL. I think all fans know that, hence buying championship players.

Re: Burnley Most profitable!
I'm fairly certain some where questioning the signings of the 3 players you've mentioned, especially Reid.
The difference is some of us are prepared to give the manager some slack/time instead of attacking everything he tries to do.
Sordell had real potential when he first broke onto the scene, Juke had scored goals in the championship, but there were certainly questions asked.
Reid - old head etc, but again eyebrows were raised when he was signed.
We didn't get relegated due to those 3 signings, it was the squad overall not being good enough to keep us up.

Those profits we made in the PL is how we could afford players like Gray, Barton, Lowton last season which have enabled us to come back up stronger this season.summitclaret wrote:Post 16 is spot.

Give over Paul - A loan costing less than £1m in exhange for staying up, was all that it would probably have taken. Peanutss out of £30m plus.

Re: Burnley Most profitable!
Was there really any bragging anyway?......I recall a statement from Mike Garlick that the £35million profit to Jun'15 was a record for Burnley but that was about it.
Tall Paul makes the important point (one that KRBFC and others should note) that only the annual depreciation based on the length of a players' contract actually affects one years' figures, not the transfer fee itself.
So, for instance, if we buy three players in this financial year for a combined total of £20m and each one was on a four year contract, only £5m would be charged against the accounts in the current year.

Re: Burnley Most profitable!
Can anyone shed any light on what cash reserves we actually have?
That article suggests we made 40m net profit in our last PL season. I imagine with the help of the parachute payments and player outgoings last year we broke even or made a small loss, and then again this year what was the quoted amount? 100m?
So if wages remain constant till the end of the season and we sign no one else, and we assume all of the money is given to us (i know its given in increments) roughly what do we have sitting in the bank?
I know it's not as simple as what i've just said as there's all sorts of factors to take into account, but a ball park figure?

Anyone would have done, I reckon. For example, Chelsea must have had a few youngsters who could have instantly transformed the team - that Chalobah, for example - did we never consider trying to sign him?claretdom wrote:Who was this player for under 1m that we should have signed to keep us up ?

Re: Burnley Most profitable!
Shabba.......the difficulty is that the last figures we have available are too far out of date to make a real judgement. The accounts to Jun'16 were completed last August, audited by December and signed off by the directors at that time so their strange reluctance to release the figures is hard to fathom.
The only thing we can say with real certainty is that Income will be down by £40m (£79m to £39m), wages will be down by say £7m ( £29m to £22m) but promotion bonuses of say £10m will be offset by the profit on player sales of Ings, Tripps and Shackell. Overheads and depreciation will show a slight increase so taking all of that into account we're likely to report a near breakeven situation to Jun'16.
Since then we've received three stage payments of the £105m for potentially finishing 17th but are now of course back paying PL salaries. Cash flow is always a problem for us but there ought to be sufficient funds for Dyche to spend upwards of £20m in the January window, if he so pleases.

Anybody that was an experienced centre midfielder as a loan signing would have been better than Arfield ( we had no other back up whatsoever even as a sub).
The good news is that lessons hve been learnt this window as JB has already signed.

People talk about our money, but we can't just sit on it. Look at North American automakers. They kept putting out the same kind of product year after year. and made oodles of money, until they got run over by the Japanese. Let's not pat ourselves on the back too much.

Hi KRBFC, I read your first post on this thread as congratulating the board on having the good sense to spend modestly on the first time Sean Dyche gained promotion to the Prem. I guess you know that Sean achieved promotion ahead of schedule - it just shows how good he is. I'm sure the board knew that the club needed to "husband" resources - digressing, is there also an expression to "wife" resources? - and to prepare for our second Prem season and ensure we have a great chance, with the team/squad/group led by SEan Dyche, to build a period of several seasons in the Prem.KRBFC wrote:Looking back I'm shocked at how fans on here were completely fine with us signing Sordell, Reid, Juke after promotion heading into a PL season.
