Ben Gibson
Ben Gibson
It looks like he's taken over from Keane as the young, English centre half who is being linked with half the Premier League for this transfer window.

Re: Ben Gibson
Steve Gibson's nephew isn't he?
Either way he won't move this window, possibly the summer though.
I know Boro fans were a little annoyed when Keane was called up for England and he wasn't.
I'm sure Boro have valued him in excess of £30 million though.

Re: Ben Gibson
It will be interesting to see what he goes for. A direct comparison to Michael Keane and they are both better than John Stones.

Re: Ben Gibson
Neither of them is technically as good as John Stones. His talent is off the charts as far as pure footballing ability. Think the pressure has affected young John though. Bad decision making. Where MK and Gibson have him is they are defenders first. Clear the danger. Poor John, he feels the need to "play it out"......gets him in so much trouble. Same as the clown keeper.......that is coaching. Sorry Pep, square pegs in round holes and all. Stones needs to be somewhere else.

do you think Stones could match Tarkowski at DM?
Re: Ben Gibson
Worth 1.7m according to transfermarkt.com, so there's your ball park figure for Keane..

Re: Ben Gibson
Very good player. When he first got in the side there was a lot of talk about him being there only because he was the owner's nephew. That's certainly not the case now.

I thought he was their best player by some distance. He was organising the whole team at times.Shore claret wrote:I was thoroughly underwhelmed with his performance at the turf.
Reminded me of Tony Adams the way he ran the defence.
Re: Ben Gibson
Can he pick-up the ball in midfield and string a few passes together and be the bridge between the defence and forwards?
They have some neck valuing him at 1.7m.
He'll never be one to fret over.

Re: Ben Gibson
gibson is a cracking centre half.
i think keane is a bit more of a footballer but gibson is as good defensively.

Without doubt Gibson/Keane will be Englands defensive partnership in a few years

'Karanka this morning on Gibson: "I would like to keep him here all his career. But football is football."'
It's unusual for Karanka I know but there's nothing wrong with what he's said there.
Stones is a different type of player. I know you're not allowed to say anything about him now but if he gets back on track, he'll be an England regular (in my humble opinion, of course).

Re: Ben Gibson
Calum Chambers seems to be back on track now as well, he's still only 21. A few decent, young English centre halves knocking around at the moment.
Re: Ben Gibson
If you weren't impressed with him on the Turf Shore Claret you're either very hard to please or haven't got a clue about football. He was their best player by some distance.

Re: Ben Gibson
He was at fault for the first yesterday and nearly a third when a poor lob went straight to Pope but getting 7s and generally rated as one of our best players in the ratings thread. Bizarre, he is good but Gibson should have had a look in a long time agosnapcrackleandpop wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 1:03 pmI get dogs abuse for saying this of my mates all the time but i have never understood the Ben Mee love in, but it doesn't matter how poor he is he plays.

I reckon we bought Mel Gibson in error !

Shows how bizarre the whole situation is. Unfortunately Ben Mee is undroppable like 4 or 5 others.

Re: Ben Gibson
To be fair, I think Mee and Tarks have been two of our better players in recent games. Not sure bringing Gibson in would materially improve anything. The poor recent results have largely stemmed from an inept midfield and a lack of goals to get us back into games. As soon as we go behind at the moment there looks to be no way back.

Re: Ben Gibson
The irony is that the one game that Mee has been dropped for (Olympiacos away) was the one that was crying out for his attributes (resilience and leadership).
In the Premier League keeping hold of the ball and moving it forward progressively is all important, and Gibson is / was good at that.
Mind you, Mee was the pick of the defence yesterday, followed by Taylor

Re: Ben Gibson
If a silly money offer comes in this month for Tarky we might just need Gibson.
Re: Ben Gibson
Why don’t we just sign a young attacking fullback and play 3 central defenders? Taylor’s arguably our best attacking threat, a pacey young attacking fullback like Bogle would fit well or even Yedlin at Newcastle.

Re: Ben Gibson
Can’t disagree, I don’t rate many of the English defenders these days certainly an absolute mile behind the likes of Ferdinand, Terry and Ashley Cole in their prime.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 4:35 pmAfter the increasingly common and widely-televised errors recently, I'd be very surprised we'd get £40 mill.
A good, powerful defender but not international standard.

Must have been a different Gibson on the bench for most of last season then. Sorry my badClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jan 02, 2020 3:29 pmBit difficult to be playing when you are having not one but two hernia ops
Re: Ben Gibson
I do wonder with Dunne returning if either Gibson or Tarks is on their way out. If so it will probably be the sum total of our transfer dealings this window unless Vydra goes as well.

Re: Ben Gibson
Gibson was on the bench for the first three Premier League games last season and was then unavailable through injury and wasn't on the bench for 13 of the next 14 Premier League games through those injuries and he was also ruled out of the League Cup tie against Burton. So not sure which Gibson you saw on the bench.claretcarrot93 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 03, 2020 8:13 amMust have been a different Gibson on the bench for most of last season then. Sorry my bad

Re: Ben Gibson
Was said a bit tongue in cheek Tony. But Gibson is too good a player to sit on the bench. He must be wondering if he'll ever get a chance after our recent results and still not given a start. My one real criticism of SD is his loyalty to his regulars and not giving bench warmers and loanees a chance, Vydra has to be a prime example of this.
Re: Ben Gibson
Another example of Dyche wasting money. Ben Mee is obviously 1 of the undroppables. There's a reason he's never had an international call up but Gibson has.
Re: Ben Gibson
Gibson needs to get himself out of our club ASAP. Ben Mee will never, ever be dropped, that much is obvious.
He's entering the absolute prime of his career and he can't afford to waste it sat on Burnley's bench. He is far too good for that.

I just heard that he may be on his way to Bristol City with Josh Brownhill headed in the opposite direction... ("strong rumour" status only) - would suit me if we pulled this off!
Re: Ben Gibson
Wikipedia says he is on loan at Middlesbrough and he has signed for Newcastle too. Probably Fake News.

Re: Ben Gibson
As much as I love Ben Mee, I think Tarks and Gibson would be a great partnership if given the chance.
Re: Ben Gibson
You only get capped when you play for the senior side dont you? that said he was going in that direction and has hit a stumble block joining us when to be fair to him he was probably looking at furthering his international career by playing in a Premier League side that has party of its defence already catching the England Boss eye.
