Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
Depends on the situation. If Olssen has a release clause or is v close to the last year of his contract and Brady isn't then it's pointless comparing. £15m sounds an awful lot but we've shown we are prepared to splash the cash if required with the hendrick deal. And if we are known to be picky about who we approach then that also puts the ball a bit further into the court of the seller - you lose the "last chance to sell here? there's three others down the road" if people think it's simply talk because the three others down the road aren't the kind of players you''d buy in 90% of circumstances.jlup1980 wrote:£4 million for Olssen seems like a good deal in today's market. It's a shrewd deal for Swansea I think. It seems excessive to think Norwich want £11 million more for Brady?!
Like many things in negotiation, it's a double edged sword - often it meanbs not many others are in the hunt but it also means we're less likely to bale.

The wages and price tag show we should be looking more in the european market for value for money.
At the beginning of the season I said push the boat out for him, now I'm not so sure, doesn't look very fast but skill and set pieces are good.
Big Fat Sam has said the same thing recently, overpriced players over here, China is not going to help either....

Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
It seems clear from what Chris Boden has recently said that no deal has been agreed
which presumably means we haven't offered Norwich enough for them to accept.
And even if we do make an offer that they are happy to accept we still have to negotiate
a salary with the player assuming he's happy to come.
So do we offer more or rejig what we have offered to more upfront and less add-ons?
Who knows?
We do seem keen given there's no announcement that we're bailing out and looking elsewhere.
Are they playing a waiting game and hoping Sunderland or another club come in with more?
How important to us is the fact that he may be cup tied? Probably not that important, I would guess.
Would hate to find out in a few days time that it's all gone bosom up.
As this has been going on now for at least a week we do need to decide whether we want to
pursue our interest. It doesn't seem as if we have much or many alternatives nor as such
do we appear to be looking overseas where we might be able to get someone in of a similar
calibre and ability for considerably less.

Yes, thanks. Lehman Bros went bankrupt on 14-Sept-2008. Financial "melt down" continued through the end of the year (Citibank was rumoured to be going bankrupt in early Dec - but they avoided it).
From memory Burnley played at Wembley in May 2009. I guess it depends on what I meant by "a few." (Quote: "just a few months after "world financial crisis" hit finances everywhere").
Anyway, no worries.

Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
Found this on News Now:
Premier League Burnley are leading the chase of Norwich City’s Robbie Brady, according to reports from The Mirror.
The 25-year-old has been subject to transfer speculation this month with Crystal Palace, Sunderland and Burnley showing interest in Brady. The Republic of Ireland international has been a key man for Norwich since moving from Hull City in 2015 for a fee believed to be around £7 million. This season, Brady has made 23 appearances and managed to score three goals for an underwhelming Norwich side.
The Clarets have placed a bid which could rise to £13 million, with an initial £10 million paid plus £3 million in potential add-ons. Burnley placed the offer last week and remain in talks with Alex Neil’s side.
The Premier League outfit are the leaders of the pack and are attempting to finalise the deal for Brady. Reports indicate the deal could be finalised this week.

Interesting. If Jason O'Connor knows his stuff it seems he wants to come to the Turf at the moment. The problem being that we have to wait for Norwich to sign a replacement which means we could be gazumped in the time that takes.

Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
Neil has already said that Brady will play tonight because he's his player and he's not interested whether he becomes cup tied for anyone else. He's just completed a three match ban and I think they will play him at left back with Olsson gone.uptheclarets86 wrote:Question is, if he's correct and Brady is on his way surely that puts him out of the game tonight..the lad won't give 100% in case of injury

Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
Personally I'd rather he does play tonight- after three games out he needs to get a bit of match sharpness back and I'd rather it happen now then one he's joined us.
However bearing in mind the amount for the transfer I wouldn't be surprised if Alex Neil is overruled by the board at Norwich- just to make sure that he doesn't get injured/jeapardise the deal...

Precisely. I'm half hoping they make him wait until transfer deadline day and then we can follow the progress of his private plane as it flies up from Norwich.

Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
Norwich are being linked with Meredith at Bradford so hopefully they can get that done sharpish. They have Whittaker who can play left back plus the Murphy brothers and Sergio Canos who play on the wing. They also have Pritchard and Hoolahan. I hope we can get this done sooner rather than later as I really rate Brady. He'd be a perfect fit for us.

Re: ARTICLE: The Brady link
If we get Brady, I don't want anyone else in. First of all we aren't going down so don't include add-ons for retaining our Premier league place. So add £1m on to our bid which might make it more attractive to Norwich and add the £1m to our 1st downpayment. No more in because we want to keep the 'group' as happy as possible. Tarks, (who might be one hell of a footballer) Burnley's Beckenbauer can't get in the first team just yet. Brady won't go straight in either. Tarks will not get shifted by anyone until he retires or moves on to a higher plane. Brady 'should' also strengthen our first team and therefore our squad. When they are both first-teamers we will be at a similar level to Everton (as they are right now) in my opinion. We will also be much more attractive to young players with potential and already established players.

I think with Schneiderlin (sp?), lukaku, Coleman, Barkley, Davies et al we're a tad off the quality of Everton. It'll be a while before we can do to man city what they did at the weekend.

yeah but they are over 200 million in debt. Imagine the structure of that deal, 50 quid up front then 18.33 a week for the next year, then 12 quid for the following 100 years (ps, I didn't do the maths, I just made those figures up)Reecey1987 wrote:Sunderland had 9 million bid rejected

I am not sure if Sunderland or Palace are actually in for him or if that is just paper talk. This O'Connor fella seems to know his stuff, has he mentioned anything about palace or Sunderland actually bidding in the same way he has with us?
If there really were 3 chasing him, I can't imagine we'd be ******* about with an extra million up front instead of I'm bonuses.
Still time for us to be gazumped but hoping this one is in our hands.
