Not disagreeing with any of points - and redbeard has done the same - any points for Joey? or was he on as sub for too short a time? I think Joey, who came on on 73 minutes and game had 3 minutes added managed the "20 mins or more." :D

I'm under the impression a sub who comes on from 71 mins onward is not to be scored but could be wrong.

I know, I'm only adding the 73 mins plus 3 added.

Good job that the same rules don't apply on the pitch. ;)

Great goal from Joey. Welcome back.

Heaton 8 - couple of good saves and then the double save, immense today.
Lowton 8 - very good today
Keane 7 - good
Mee 7 - always in the right place today, couple of slips that could have cost us but didnt lukily
Ward 8 - i thought he had a great game today
Boyd 7 - better from him today, bit of end product would be good
Marney 6 - looks to be struggling with the nerve damage he has.
Hendrick 8* - perhaps he is beginning to believe he is good enough for this level because he has got better in the last couple of games but today he was awesome.
Defour 6 - not a left winger but did what he had to do and still showed some touches of class.
Barnes 7 - hard day for the front two, both put a shift in with little or no service.
Gray 7 - as above

Barton - 7 plus one for the added two points he got us. Looked a little rusty but a great addition.
Vokes - 5 he would need some service, but won headers the other two were not getting anywhere near.

A great win and Joey's reaction to the goal was great as was the teams.

Heaton 9 MOM Faultless 2 superb saves late on
Lowton 7 Good defensive work little going forward
Mee 7 Poor first half (goal line clearance apart) Gave the Ball away too much, lost headers and struggled to cope with Longs movement, pace and arial pressence. However superb second half and a big reason we won the game.
Keane 7 again poor first half Good second similar to Mee
Ward 7 as Lowton
Marney 6 One of his worst games very poor ball retention
Hendrick 8 Really growing into the side and the season
Defour 7 great job for the team out of position. Wasted out left far better in the middle. Worried Dyche might lose him if this carries on
Boyd 8 Been very good lately and another good display. Always works hard but is being more effective in games at the moment
Barnes 7 A handful and a good all round display but still throwing himself down and cheating a bit too much. Would do better to concentrate on the ball rather than the man at times
Gray 7 worked hard for the team and some good link up play. Touch was better today

Vokes 7 won some headers which we hadn't done at all until he came on. Shocking miss at the end
Barton 8 Good all round display and played positive passes.

Typical Burnley performance under Dyche. Not pretty and lacking quality on the ball at times but hung in defended well and found a way to win.

Heaton 8 was on a 7 with 2 mins to go
Lowton 8 best match for us. MoM
Keane 7 solid
Mee 7 less solid but more committed
Ward 8 part of the best back 4 I've seen for Burnley. Good outlet going forward
Boyd 7 Boydlike
Marney 5 looks to be carrying a knock to me
Hendrick 7 another very good game under his belt
Defour 6 unfamiliar role but he did ok
Barnes 6 tried hard but no real success
Gray 6 see Barnes

Vokes 5 I love Sam but he missed a sitter and looks very rusty
Barton 7 just paid back everything he needs to for this short contact

The thing that struck me when joey came on was just how many real hard men we had on the pitch. If I was the opposition I'd hate playing Burnley . The fact that we are top of the FairPlay league shows our discipline cos we do not have any shrinking violets.

Heaton - 9 one very good save in the first half and two excellent ones in quick succession at the death

Lowton - 8 another very good performance, bang in form at the moment

Keane - 7 long concentrated on Mee with good reason

Mee - 6 a few slips and some wayward passing that put us on the back foot

Ward - 8 see Lowton

Boyd - 7 frustrating as ever but crucial to us towards the end

Marney- 4 way off it today, think his injury is restricting him a bit

Hendrick- 8 we're seeing the player we wanted more and more as the area in goes on, looks a premier league player now

Defour - 7 wasted on the wing yet still influential

Barnes - 6 he's a lucky lad at times but he's playing well

Gray- 6 not his day but always on the hunt and their back line knew it

Fair play to today's scriptwriter, that was the way to do it. We more than matched a decent side who again struggled to create really good chances against us, bar the one at the end.

I thought Barton might hit it low as a central free kick isn't ideal with a tall keeper like Forster. A great result in a game that could have gone either way, the game management after we scored was back to last season's levels.

Staying up.

Marney has an ongoing nerve damage issue. not sure where the damage is but he said he has it on claretsplayer a few weeks back, after the city game I think.

Heaton 9 - outstanding when called upon. the double save really was something else.
Lowton 7 - stuck at his job well
Keane 9 - van dijk was great, keano wasn't far behind. commanding.
Mee 9 - back to his best
Ward 8 - having a great spell of late
Boyd 8 - a great game for gorgeous george - certainly defensively
Marney 4 - thought this was his worst game in a burnley shirt for many years. won no tackles, wasted possession and just wasn't at the races. he's allowed the odd off day given his usual consistency though
Hendrick 8 - worked his socks off all afternoon; had a lot to do given how poor marney was
Defour 6 - not a winger. no need to try that again!
Barnes 7 - works and works and works. just wish he had a bit more class on the ball. a good graft though.
Gray 6 - we need to find a way of bringing him into games like this because he is a real threat. van dijk and romeu were just too good for him today though, certainly physically.

what an unexpected bonus these 3 points were. it wasn't pretty and we'll undoubtedly be one of the last on motd tonight but who cares!!

Heaton 8 - great double save at the end

Lowton 7 - looked decent today
Keane 7 - steady without being spectacular
Mee 7 - amazingly had ou two best chances in the first half
Ward 8 - made a couple of very well timed tackles

Boyd 8 - worked incredibly hard today
Marney 7 - another solid display
Hendrick 7 - getting more confident
Defour 7 - did well considering he was playing out of position

Barnes 6 - made a nuisance of himself but poor pass when could have played Gray in second half
Gray 6 - no real chances, but nice to see him working hard

Subs

We now have real strength in depth...

Barton - a fairytale return
Vokes - gave us a bit more of a physical presence
Tarkowski - intelligent player

Looked like this was going to be a stalemate all day long until Joey came up with a bit of magic albeit helped somewhat by Forster who is still diving for it now! Quite how he is ahead of Heaton in the England pecking order I will never know. Difference between Burnley this time and our previous Premier League seasons is that we now know how to grind out wins when previously it would have been draws.

Heaton 9 High class and wonderful double save
Lowton 7 Good work rate didn't get forward a lot though
Mee 7 Improved as game went on, he's a brave lad but distribution is weak
Keane 7.5 Got into his stride touch of class
Ward 6 Can't knock him, he's slow immobile but hard as nails
Marney 5 Awful today but we all get em
Hendrick 8 Improving every game driving force
Defour 7 class act out of position but decent all round game
Boyd 7 playing well and nicely involved
Barnes 6 yes he's a handful but woefully out of his depth in the prem, more ball retention and less cheating please
Gray 7 worked hard with pretty weak supply but on his toes at present and looks hungry

Vokes 6 awful miss won a few balls upgrade needed
Barton 8 did his job well perfect times sub held us togethrr

They've plenty of class and speed but we had just as many scoring chances , we were dour but we now look like we can break out and trouble a side as opppesed to desperate defending .

Heaton 8 Wonderful second save at the end

Lowton 8 Excellent MoM
Ward 7 Mr Consistency at the minute
Mee 6 bullied by Long first half but good second half
Keane 8 A truly wonderful centre half

Marney 4 The game by passed him
Hendrick 8 Ran our midfield, composed and looked to drive forward when the opportunity arose
Boyd 7 Hard work personified
Defour 6 A composed assured outlet at times, worked hard
but not as effective as we've seen him

Barnes 6 Some nice hold up play, worked hard
Gray 6 worked hard and tried to get in behind and stretch them

I've probably been harsh on the front two as their work for the team was excellent but they didn't threaten the saints goal.

Very solid at the back and a bit of a jammy win to be honest.

Heaton 8 - two superb stops at the end
Lowton 8 - excellent
Mee 6 - ok, but he has to cut out the errors
Keane 7 - solid
Ward 8 - rapidly becoming my favourite player
Boyd 8* - today is the sort of game that GB demonstrates why he is vital to our system
Marney 5 - not good to be honest
Hendrick 8 - its him + one other in CM now. I have to say that I don't think that is Deano
Defour 7 - did a job, but clearly not his best position
Gray 7 - did ok
Barnes 8 - good again

Subs
Barton 7 - welcome back joey!
Vokes 7

Our home form is ridiculous, and long may it continue!

Heaton 8 - Couple of saves in the first half when we were under the kosh and the two at the end, arguably got us the two extra points today.

Lowton 7 - Played well, had an iffy patch at the start of the second half, but he is playing well at the moment.

Keane 8 - I see we have a thread about Van Dijk and every one gushing about him. This lad hardly put a foot wrong today, wasn't found out of position and covered Ben Mee superbly, as well as keeping a clean sheet.

Mee 7 - Solid

Ward 7 - Consistent performer, week in week out, sound as.

Boyd 8 -Played well today, carried the ball, won headers, tackled well and appeared all over the place.

Marney 5 - Not in the game today, looked off the pace, we can afford him an off day though, as we got the win.

Hendrick 8 - Played very well today and compensated for the poor Marney show

Defour 6 - wasted on the wing, did his job well though.

Barnes 7 - made himself a nuisance of himself as usual and although he didn't dominate, pulled Van Dijk out of position a lot.

Gray 6 - struggled in this game, better defenders and no real balls over the top that he could get on to.

Joey Barton 9 - 20 minutes of pure Joey, a rousing reception, a misplaced ambitious pass, a free kick goal, a celebration that shows how much it means to him, the fans and especially his team mates. Then hustle and bustle, a block and a couple of clearing headers, pure box office, fitting he got the goal, writes his own scripts does this lad.

Not pretty but great result and for this season I don't care as its all about getting across the line, wherever it may be. Thought Southampton were decent, just needed a goalscorer. Was impressed with Dick Van Dyke, didn't give Gray or Barnes a sniff all afternoon. Another goal scorer added to this seasons long list for Burnley, come on Lowts you are due one soon surely !

I've marked highly because I think Southampton are a really good side who were up for it today. We hung tough and eked out a win. For the first time ever in the PL I looked at the table without scanning the bottom 3.

Heaton - 8 -Three very smart saves
Lowton - 7 - Generally did well though didn't offer much going forward
Mee - 8 - We did a lot of defending today and he was at the heart of it
Keane 8- Thought he shaded Tom for the MOM
Defour 6 - Definitely less effective out wide
Marney 5 - Poor game by his standards
Hendrick 8 - Strong area to area performance
Boyd 7 - Really strong defensively
Barnes - 6 -tough going against their outstanding CB
Gray 6 - Nice movement but poor first touch

Our least entertaining home game so far IMO and probably one of worst performances.

VERY good win against a good side.

Heaton 9*
Lowton 8 improving
Keane 8
Mee 7
Ward 8
Boyd 7 got better as game went on
Marney 7
Hendricks 8 Possibly his best game. Getting Dyche fit now
Defour 6
Barnes 7 great energy
Gray 6 has to learn how to impose himself on a game

Barton 10 I dont care about UTC rules, I just wanted to give him 10 and what a very clever free kick. Called Hendrick into the wall and hit it perfectly into the space he created.

Heaton - 9 - Not a great deal to do but made crucial saves at crucial times towards the end of the game
Lowton - 8 - Looking a lot more assured and full of confidence
Keane - 8 - Relatively untroubled but a couple of cracking challenges and important blocks
Mee - 7 - Was terrorised by Long in the opening half an hour and kept getting the wrong side of his man, but grew into the game and was flawless in the second half
Ward - 8 - Very good
Boyd - 8 - A number of good tackles and an extraordinary level of graft
Hendrick - 9 (MOM) - Looking like our best midfielder
Marney - 6 - Looked off the pace
Defour - 7 - A few poorly weighted passes but some nice glimpses
Barnes - 7 - Good contribution
Gray - 6 - Poor service to him but he was in Van Dijk's pocket in the main, no shame in that though

Very tough game against an accomplished side. We've shown that we're at home at this level (at home at least). I commented at half time that there have been a number of games this season where we've stayed in the game despite not being at our best and have snatched a goal in the second half. Today was another example.

This team has shown a determination and the aptitude to win games in different ways and it's great to watch. Hopefully we can start to put a few points on the board away from home but it's starting to look like we won't need to.

I didn't think we played THAT well today, and many looked a bit lost. The team felt a bit disjointed at times, but we didn't give Southampton many chances either. Man of the match is a tough call between JH and ML, with the latter just shading it for me.

Imagine if Joey had come off the bench when he did and scored a hat trick and nobody was allowed to mark him because it had gone passed a certain minute!

Heaton 8 - A good reflex save to deny Redmond in the 1st half, the 2nd save of the double was exceptional.
Lowton 8 - Quietly did a very good job with some lovely touches. Pulled a high ball down from Marney with snow on it beautifully. A big improvement since August.
Keane 8 - His usual solid, organised unflappable self.
Mee 8* - Similar to Keane.
Ward 7 - Some excellent tackles, whole hearted, good game.
Boyd 7 - Usual work rate. Had a couple of excellent runs.
Marney 6 - Decent. Not his usual presence, but still worked tirelessly.
Hendrick 8 - Starting to make me forget David Jones. One of his better games for us.
Defour 6 - Thought he had a poor first half. I thought he looked a little uncomfortable until a couple of quality touches in the 2nd half.
Barnes 7 - Epitome of an 'overachiever'. Continued as such today. I'd hate to have to mark him. Real handful.
Gray 6+ - Slightly harsh. Wasn't given much to feast upon. I thought he worked and showed his pace and strength but his touch was lacking today.

Vokes 6 - Not much wrong. Helped finish the game. Had a chance to finish it off for us with a chance in the last minutes.
Barton 8 - Despite the BBC slating the free-kick, I thought it was excellent with the Giant wrong-footed. There was a wonderful ball late on sending Boyd (I think) clear down the left wing. Great vision. It was a thing of beauty.
Tarks 6 - Didn't have many touches. No criticism.

All in all, I was really pleased with the win against a very dangerous side. We were definitely 2nd best in the first half. 2nd was relatively even with plenty of open play. A lot of good performances makes it difficult to single one man out, but probably for the clean sheet, Ben Mee.
