No it wasn't. No wonder he's bottom of the refs league with ridiculous marks like them slanting the table.

Re: RATE THE REF - Paul Tierney v Southampton
I stand to be corrected but I can barely recall a bad decision, the game flowed fine and his use of the cards seemed good. Cant believe the marks and can only assume he's had some bad games in the past that have clouded peoples judgements

Shocker obvious mistakes all over the pitch. Woeful decision making and stopping the game for the blatant time wasting from the Soton player in the box plus stopping a throw in for the Soton player could get back on the pitch unbelievable. Plus don't get me started on allowing them to rub the foam out before Joey's goal.

Seen some awful refereeing this season at Turf Moor. This one was OK.

Re: RATE THE REF - Paul Tierney v Southampton
The foam is only there as an aid. It is not an offence to rub it out. Moving forward however beyond that line is a cautionable offence. Assume that didnt happen (otherwise u would prob have mentioned it) so nothing to worry about then.bfcjg wrote:4

Love to know what the "shocking decisions" were.

What's the point of putting it there then? It's hardly like they're gonna trip over it is it??
They're doing it for one reason, to try to grab a few inches!!

I thought when the liner in front of the Bob Lord Stand got an offside badly wrong after 15 seconds we were in for one of those afternoons, however, ultimately this referee was not as bad as I had feared and certainly not the worst this season.

Clear pen second half Soton player cheated ball out then got throw in deliberate foul on Andre not given Barnes flattered numerous times and nothing etc. Only thing he got right was blowing the full time whistle virtually on time.
Re: RATE THE REF - Paul Tierney v Southampton
All 15's, niggly scrappy game, game never really had much flow. He didn't get any big decisions wrong and didn't look to dish out cards like that plonker from the other week. We've definitely had worse refs, although Tierney was never put in the position to make big decisions because there really weren't any to be made.

Re: RATE THE REF - Paul Tierney v Southampton
Made an easy game look difficult to referee. I seriously think that refereeing standards are going downhill rapidly. When we first gained promotion to the Premier League I was astonished at how much better the officials were at the top level, we now seem to have a sub-standard performance on a weekly basis.

Absolutely dreadful performance, it was like trying to pick 6 winning lottery numbers trying to work out what he was and wasn't going to give.

Re: RATE THE REF - Paul Tierney v Southampton
Soton player down in his own box a yard from the touch line. No head injury. Ref stops play during a promising Burnley attack when all Burnley players would've been onside. Soton player gets up with mild limo. Only ref thinks there may be an injury. Very poor.
Soton player slides in to a tackle, misses, slides off the pitch. Burnley throw, let's leave soton player off the pitch rubbing his leg due to friction burn. Actually, let's stop play and go over to ask him if he's ok. Very poor.
Virgin deliberately fouls Andre as he's breaking through. No foul. This was incredible. Really incredible.
So a very inconsistent performance for me.

Stopping the game for a player down but no head injury is plain wrong. Didn't let us take quick free kicks and nit picked about where we took free kicks from but never applied the same rules to Southampton. Van D clumsily taking Gray out was as obvious of a free kick as you'll ever see. Push on Mee in the box should have been a penalty. Should have booked Barnes for a suspect elbow (at least). Plenty more I could mention. Wasn't good at all...

Except it wasn't a foul, I watched it live on TV over here and whilst I initially thought it was a foul the replays show very clearly that Van Djik had no idea Gray was behind him at all, they bumped into each other and nothing more

I've yet to see it on tv but the foul on grey was the clearest booking you'll ever see, straight through on goal.

Re: RATE THE REF - Paul Tierney v Southampton
How about the foul that was 3 yards inside the by line that they ended up taking 4 yards inside their penalty area?

But this thread is "rate the ref". (I know you didn't actually rate him) So it doesn't matter what you see from the tv, it's what you see live that counts. The truth matters not one jot I'm afraid. I know that means on occasion we may rip a referee a new one, and mark him lower than a snakes belly, but that doesn't matter as long as you call it as you see it live. It's why the rate the ref results table is as error strewn as their performances. And that's why I wont(I can't) revise my rating. I suppose it adds "realism". (No, I don't get it either)
And I totally accept what you say. Off to watch MOTD now.

Said this before but they keep banging on about this being "the best league in the world" yet they allow people like this to run the games.
Awful.

Made an easy game look difficult. Wasn't helped by his assistants, though.
