I don't care who they are or where they have been I will never, repeat never, applaud an apposing player who comes on against us. I thought it was cringeworthy as well.

Re: JayRods Reception.
I'd have been gutted if he'd scored, anybody but him but I was pleased with the reception he got.
He WILL always be a claret even when he plays for someone else. I'm sure his reception didn't galvanise him to player better!!
Edit to say, he is the only player that I've felt like that about in my 32 years of supporting us!

The reception given to an opposition player, coming on to do us damage, made me sick to the stomach. The song for him was utterly embarrassing.

Having enjoyed some of the whining here I'm starting to wish he'd scored. Imagine the comments then.

Clapping good, singing not good.

I refused to applaud and will never during a game. IT - you are starting to wish he'd scored. Go and support Southampton then.

Probably. But then i wouldn't think that something that's a joke can be sick since i'm not an over-sensitive crybaby. I think actually thinking certain things are funny is sick. Like if someone thought it was funny that we had a small wage bill i'd think they were utterly reprehensible people.fidelcastro wrote:I wonder if you'd be able to make a sick joke out of that one?

Re: JayRods Reception.
Nothing against JayRod, wish him nothing but sucess in his career, but come on, for however long he was on the pitch he was the oppositions striker trying his best to score against us and some Burnley fans were giving him a standing ovation and singing his name?
Did those fans do the same for OUR MOM Hendrick or Ben Mee, or Lowton, or Ward, or, or..

I wonder how many more points we could have got if we'd not been nice to him?
You don't have to hate. Wanting your own team to win does not mean you have to hate the opponents. Anyway, what makes anyone think that booing an opponent will stop him from scoring? I don't know if any of you remember Kurt Nogan, but for those that do, here's two questions about games he played against Burnley:
1. Was he booed?
2. Did he score?

It was way over the top. Polite applause I can understand but some gave him the full works, standing ovation and sang his name too!
One bloke behind me who joined in this also boo'ed Joey Barton onto the pitch. A total embarrassment of a 'fan' - I certainly hope he didn't celebrate our winner today.

Re: JayRods Reception.
had I been there I probably would have clapped him. In fact I did clap him. On my own. Whilst rolling about in the freezing cold under a Peugeot.
He's a Burnley lad, who was great for us. So I do think he does deserve some recognition.
Whenever I hear "one of our own" I always remember him missing that penalty at Forest away when it pizzed it down.

If he can keep himself fit he has one big move in him to the top 6.
Then, he will return for his last few years.

You have a double whammy here. Claret legend who was actually born and bred in the town, coming back to do damage to what I am sure is still his favourite football club. He and we can't win in this situation.

Re: JayRods Reception.
I won't clap on anyone playing against Burnley or sing their name. After the game and maybe before fair enough, even if we were 5-0 up maybe, but a bloke trying to score the winner against us? Don't get it.

Re: JayRods Reception.
I can see why people would want to applaud. But for me? No. Not during the game. After the game or when his name is read out at the start. Not during the game.
I just find it really weird people wany to cheer an opponent more than perhaps polite applause for say a really excellebt goal.

Re: JayRods Reception.
Give him a round of applause after the game, by all means, but singing for him during the game was cringey. I know Jay, I like Jay, but today he was an enemy. I thought it was more appropriate to wait until the game was over to show appreciation.

Strange reception for a striker coming on for the opposition with the score at 0-0 in a vital game.

Thought he thoroughly deserved the reception, especially given the hard time he's had coming back from such a serious injury. The town should be rightly proud of producing top class sportsmen like Jay and Jimmy.
