How many headers did he win today? Thought he was our best defender even after the slip in the first half.

Re: Ben Mee
He was the only one to win a header against Van Deck. That takes some doing on yesterday's performance.
We are fortunate to have Mee and Keane, they could ply their trade anywhere.

Re: Ben Mee
Great player. Often out performs his centre half partner who seems to get all the plaudits. (Not yesterday, Keano was immense)
That's just how it is for Ben I suppose. Delighted we have him.

Re: Ben Mee
Bloke in front summed him up for me
"95% utterly brilliant than that 5% mistake that could cost us"
But he's still brilliant, but a bit iffy at times yesterday

Couldn`t agree more. He is the beating heart of our football team. Is it ridiculous to suggest Mee and Keane are one of the Top 3 central defensive partnerships in the Premier League?Claret_Jules wrote:Legend. That is all.

Re: Ben Mee
Don't really understand the Hype over Ben Mee.
He is a steady defender. Distribution is average at best. He is liable for goal every other game with a stupid mistake.
Decent player but I feel if Dyche wasn't so loyal, tarkowski would have started the majority of games ahead of him

there is a lot of rubbish written on this board. there is a lot of very depressed old men who have nothing better to do but argue and post rubbish all day. there is a lot of young boys who when they are not at school post absolute garbage.but you my friend have just posted the biggest load of tripe i have ever read on this board. Ben Mee is absolute class and we are luck to have him. i think you must have a very small memory if you think he is just steady and average. i really do give in.

Average for the league! I'm trying to say he isn't in the same league as Keane as some posters will have you believe

Re: Ben Mee
I like Mee. Works hard, defends resolutely and is generally good in the air too. But as the person above says - he has those moments.
Personally I thought he was poor first half - when we are back to the wall he's good but there were a number of headers he simply didn;t get right and two or three times he had hairy moments in the firts half when we could have conceded with better delivery from the opposition. Better second half mind.

Re: Ben Mee
Good, wholehearted but limited defender at this level. Does seem to have a habit of making mistakes and I do feel Tarkowski would be an improvement. However at tenth in the table it wouldn't be right to be dropping him, which Tarky seems to understand, from reading his interview last week. Btw, none of this is to say he hasn't been very good for us over the past year!

Re: Ben Mee
For all his passion and commitment I think he makes too many mistakes. Either accidental, slipping, or bad decisions, diving in on Defoe being one of many.
I'd play Tarks but thankfully SD picks the side and loves the guy.

Love the classical allusion. Ben Mee certainly is the most physically courageous player I've seen play for Burnley. I'd feel confident that he could win a drop-ball with a steam hammer if he was asked to do it for the Team.Burnley Ace wrote:He is our Horatius Cocles!

Re: Ben Mee
Mee has been very good for us. Does the old fashioned bit of defending very well, puts his body on the line and always gives 100%. That means fans generally love him and give him a free pass or turn a blind eye to his sometimes poor distribution and his mistakes which cost goals. Yesterday I felt he was very poor in the first half and struggled with Longs movement and pace. Long won far too much in the air. I thought Keane struggled a little first half although not as much as Mee. However he still made a goal line clearance first half and both him and Keane were brilliant second half. Would be harsh to drop him for JT and no way Dyche will do. Although he has made quite a few mistakes that lead to goals this season playing at centre half that will happen and it is a team game so other people have also been at fault for some of the goals where he made mistakes. JT looks a good player so when Keane goes hopefully those two will form a good partnership.
Re: Ben Mee
I always felt he was too short for a super centre back. However, he proves me wrong every week.

Re: Ben Mee
Funnily enough I was saying in the pub before yesterday's match that this time round I've been surprised at how porous a lot of PL defences are. Either the emphasis is all on attack and they just scout (usually foreign) forwards, or they just can't recruit decent defenders no matter how much they try. We have imo PROPER defenders who actually do what they're primarily paid to do i.e. defend! And Ben Mee is the best example of that. He defends brilliantly! Yes, his distribution isn't the best and yes, he sometimes looks as if he's absolutely at the limit of his abilities playing at this level, whereas Keane has the ability to look like he's playing within himself. Mee has been a massive part of why we're where we are now and if we hadn't been lucky enough to pick him up when we did we could still be in the lower half of the championship leaking goals for fun!
And just to add, I came out of the pub and then watched Van Dijke for 90 minutes and thought hell fire! At last, there's another bloke playing in this league who actually can defend. And they're aren't many!

Re: Ben Mee
We have kept 4 clean sheets and have only conceded 1 goal in 5 other premiere league games this season.
That by anyone's opinion is class defending.
The back four are outstanding.

Re: Ben Mee
Who would you rather have Ben Mee or John stones?
Every time I'd pick Mee.
Mee defends hard and committed. Yes he does have the odd slip/mistake and his use of the ball isn't the best, but when there's a ball squirming around in the box and a block to be made Mee is there.

Re: Ben Mee
The only criticism of him is his distribution is really poor, he's often the one launching the long balls, I'm guessing he's under instruction to be that guy though. I actually think he's currently a better centre half than Keane defensively, Keane is younger though with higher potential and uses the ball a lot better.

Ben Mee was excellent 2nd half yesterday. Sticks his head in and fully committed.

There are a few reasons why we are tenth in the Premier League...Ben Mee is one of them.
Re: Ben Mee
Can you tell us which 10 or 11 goals cvonceded you think he was liable for this season? Does youtube have video of the 10 or 11 stupid mistakes? I must have blanked them from my memory.Newcastleclaret93 wrote:Don't really understand the Hype over Ben Mee.

I know that two years ago in the Premier, we were the only club where the "official" stats showed no goals conceded because of defensive errors. Presumably that means he's a better left back than a centre half?
