I think £10m is the going rate for an average / young Premier League striker.

Well doing nothing here for 5 months should have put him back some, although he might be a tad hungry for action.
Re: £10M for Bamford !
I bet he surprises people and makes a real success at borough. I thought he had an intelligent head on his shoulders the tiny amount of time he played for us.
Just never given a chance here because Sean doesn't believe in developing loan players.

Re: £10M for Bamford !
I reckon it is going to take about 20 years for some to realise Bamford was signed here as cover with the Gray ban coming up. Had we not signed him and then lost another striker with an injury the same would have been on hammering Dyche for not signing cover.

Think anyone with half a brain knows if Dyche actually concentrated on developing Bamford over the better strikers we already have at our club we'd be challenging for the title.
Re: £10M for Bamford !
Not one goal in the Prem. A good season two years ago. Already got Negredo, Gestede and Rhodes.
Re: £10M for Bamford !
Keane was signed on a short term deal with an option to buy. The plan was to keep him all along, same with Ben Mee. Dyche has publicly stated he does not believe in developing somebody elses players when you could be developing your own players (last year).martin_p wrote:Like Michael Keane for example.

Not entirely convinced that Gestede and Bamford are an upgrade on Nugent and Rhodes...especially for the Premier League.

English, former championship player of the year, found the net when he was played, knows the club and still young enough to develop.
£6 million isn't a lot really now, we paid that plus add ons for Gray.
If they get rid of Rhodes now then I'll be thinking Karanka is mental.

We signed Keane on loan just as we have Bamford. Three PL loan periods, three failures. You can dress it up as you like but those are the facts.

This is probably harsh given how little he played, but my overriding impression of him is that he lacks the hunger and aggression to succeed at the highest level.
I'm also not sure what type of striker he is. Seems to be bits of various types, without excelling at anything.

In the same way Eddie can't coach defence, Kawanker can't coach attack. He's bought so many strikers, none of whom seem to have come off. They got promoted sneaking 1-0s but aren't up to it at this level.
Good luck to Bamford but I don't see him as a PL player.

Same problem he had here, who is getting dropped you play him. I like the lad nut he was never going to get a start here, and I doubt he'll start for Boro. That said if they are willing to pay 10 Mil for someone who hasn't yet proved he is worth it good look to him.

Very lightweight player, surprised we went in for him in the first place. Prob got battered in training.
Was never going to start a game for us barring injuries.
£10m is daylight robbery, Chelsea sure know how to make a sale!

Re: £10M for Bamford !
It sounds like it's not £10m in the first instance; it's £6m. Presumably the additional £4m would be subject to other conditions like Boro staying in the PL, Bamford making so many appearances etc. Otherwise using a headline figure of £10m in considering whether it's value for money is misleading - like it was when Andre Gray signed for us.

As the say in London you're having a bubble. He is slow, disinterested and easily bullied .A non scoring striker who has a made in Chelsea price tag.How dumb is Aitor .He sold Nugent for £2.5m and he actually scored goals . To pay anything more than £1m for Bamford is crazy but then he paid way over the odds for Rhodes another flop

That is my view too.agreenwood wrote:This is probably harsh given how little he played, but my overriding impression of him is that he lacks the hunger and aggression to succeed at the highest level.
If we say about Barton, especially those of us who have read his book, that his hunger and aggression in part comes from his background, the more middle-class Bamford may suffer from the reverse problem. I think Michael Keane suffered from similar until Dyche toughened him up, but I suspect Bamfords build in his position, up against the John Terry's of this world in a division where you don't get much space, meant that even Dyche couldn't get him to deliver.
It's only an instinct, so he may prove it wrong, but I doubt it.

Why didn't he get a chance at Palace or Norwich last season then?Steddyman wrote:I bet he surprises people and makes a real success at borough. I thought he had an intelligent head on his shoulders the tiny amount of time he played for us.

Re: £10M for Bamford !
I don't think Bamford is anywhere near PL class yet. But £6m rising to £10m is probably about right anyway. He's been about as good as Gray in the Championship and the fee is comparable, without even taking into account the way the market has shifted again in the last 12 months.
Bringing in Bamford and Gestede for a side that does not create a lot of chances feels a bit odd to me though. The supply line is where they have a problem as they're solid enough at the back. Apparently they're linked with the likes of Bojan and Deulofeu, but I remember Boro fans getting over-excited about Valdes, Negredo, Fischer etc...

Imagine a Premier League side, perhaps one managed by a Spanish football genius, having £30 million to spend on strikers, and signing Rhodes, Gestede and Bamford.

Re: £10M for Bamford !
It's an odd choice by Karanka. Really odd. He's not worth 6 million, nevermind 10 million. Honestly I think he's pretty worthless after the past 18 months. I'm not saying he's not good enough, it's just he hasn't played consistently for nearly 2 years.
Maximum I'd expect us to pay would be 2 million up front because what are you paying for? He had one good season in the Championship and since then he's failed to make an impact with four clubs if you include Chelsea. If he were good enough I'm absolutely sure Dyche would have played him more, especially during Gray's ban when Barnes still wasn't 100% fit.
I can't understand why Boro don't just give Rhodes a try. He's a goalscorer and that's what they need! He'll score more than Gestede and Bamford in my opinion.

Chelsea paid £1.5m for Bamford and have sold him for potentially for £10m
Chelsea paid £2.7m for Djilobodji and sold him for £8m
With only one Chelsea appearance between them.

Re: £10M for Bamford !
What I did heard around November time was that he doesn't work hard enough in training. That was from a reasonable source who I've had decent information from before.
I'd not given that much thought since, but Dean Ashton was talking about Bamford on TalkSPORT this morning, and basically said the same. He said he's obviously got something, but doesn't work hard enough, and he spent time watching Norwich train when Bamford was there, and said that it was clear that Bamford was not training at anywhere near the intensity of what was required. He was quite scathing of him really in that respect. He said he'd love to chat with him and tell him that he's wasting his career.
Perhaps that was actually the case at Burnley, in that he didn't give Dyche any good reason to be able to trust him in games.

Re: £10M for Bamford !
If Rhodes is worth 9m and Hogan is worth 15m. Bamford is worth 6m all day long. Personally think it may be less than 6m and the rest will be on England appearances, games ect. Will see this week. He scored 17 goals for us in 32 starts, didn't take the penalties. Some players just work at certain clubs, Look at Ramirez for example. Couldn't get in the Hull side last time he was in the Premier league. Expect Rhodes to be loaned out. Bamford can play on the right or number 10 as well as up front were Rhodes can't. Bamford also can make his own goals, Rhodes can't. If Negredo is fit anyhow, he plays.jlup1980 wrote:It's an odd choice by Karanka. Really odd. He's not worth 6 million, nevermind 10 million. Nugent replaces with Gestede. Nugent wanted game time and wasn't going to get any. Gestede is more in the Negredo mold.
There is no point having a goalscorer if you aren't creating chances. Defensively we are sound, Man U, Chelsea and Spurs are the only teams that have conceded less than us. Karanka has said bringing in wide players is the priority this window. We need to create more chances. Hence deulofeu, Bojan allows Ramierz to play wide, Snodgrass and Jesse inquiry are all the names currently linked. Expect a minimum of 2 wide players, or one plus Bojan. Also Downing told he can leave on loan. Fisher, Stuani as cover and Traore as an impact sub.

Couldn't agree more on this, look at Joey Barton as another prime example!Estonhills wrote:Some players just work at certain clubs, Look at Ramirez for example. Couldn't get in the Hull side last time he was in the Premier league.
However there seems to be something else lacking with Bamford. After his very successful loan with you he should have kicked on. He hasn't. It's not just Burnley where he's failed to make an impact, it's Palace and Norwich too. And Chelsea haven't looked like giving him a try at any point either. That has to be concerning.
The same thing keeps being said; he doesn't work hard enough, he lacks desire. It's a shame as he's clearly got something, but the fact is he's been at three PL clubs in the 18 months and none of them have been blessed with top class attacking options, yet he's failed to make the grade.
I stick with my valuation purely because he's a risk based on the past 18 months. Maybe a 6 million deal with add ons, but nothing more than 2 up front for me.
