I think he'll end up extending his contract with us.

"A number of clubs are tracking George Boyd"
"a clutch of Premier League clubs and a host of teams in the Championship are monitoring the situation"
... with not a single Premier League or EFL club mentioned in the article. Clearly made up, knowing that random clubs will of course be interested if he's free in the summer.

Agent putting pressure on us I guess.
Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
Burnley haven't offered him an extension. I think it will depend on who we bring in this month.
I can't fault his energy or commitment though. That may be hard to replace.

It does make you wonder why any championship club with any serious intentions of promotion don't come looking for people like Boyd and Arfield, you could get them both for around 5m and you'd have half of your midfield that would get you out of the division.

I certainly hope not.

I certainly hope the combined value of Boyd and Airfield is more than 5 million.

Ahh, how much then?
They have a value to us but not necessarily to others.

Sheffield Wednesday have already got Jones and Wallace so they're halfway there
Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
Surely this is the point? They're worth more than 5 million to us as a pairing. If someone wants to pay us more then it's up to them.Diesel wrote:Ahh, how much then?

Snodgrass might be worth 7.5m to our Board but he's worth PL survival to Hull... and that's worth a whole lot more!

It's a real sign of how far this club has progressed when people are cheerfully discussing selling George Boyd and Scott Arfield.

We are in the PL so however uncomfortable it feels we must let George go. 3 million is about right ( Shefield Wednesday).

Yes we are in the premier league and Boyd played his part in getting us here.Mala591 wrote:We are in the PL so however uncomfortable it feels we must let George go. 3 million is about right ( Shefield Wednesday).
We now need to stay in the premier league and Boyd will play his part in that.
Let's not get carried away, because we look like we're going to throw a bit of money about,we will still need Boyd this season and beyond that.

Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
I appreciate the work Boyd and Arfield have done but a lot of that is down to Dyche and his system. I think if those players went to any other club then they probably wouldn't do as well. Dyche has a knack of getting the best from his players and getting them to play for each other as a team.Diesel wrote:It does make you wonder why any championship club with any serious intentions of promotion don't come looking for people like Boyd and Arfield, you could get them both for around 5m and you'd have half of your midfield that would get you out of the division.
Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
Careful what you wish for, you sometimes realise a players worth when they leave. He has been instrumental in getting us to where we are and how solid we are. Dyche rates him so that will do me.

Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
Good player. His only "fault" is his lack of pace. If he had that, he'd be the pacy winger that EVERYONE wants.
One of the first names on the team sheet, and rightly so.

Isn,t he part of one of the best performing teams that we have ever put together.
10th is a truly stupendous effort, arguably in one of the best football leagues in the world.
people are never happy with what they have got!
Don,t shoot the messenger!
Give him a new contract asap in my opinion!
Its not as if we can't afford it!

It'll be a sad day when Boyd leaves. He pretty much epitomises what this team is all about.

Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
I don't have the trained eye of those in the professional game nor the expertise of some on here, so I will keep it simple. I don't know what it is but we always seem to play better when George Boyd is in the team...
Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
Unless Boyd wants to leave, I'd hope we are offering him another couple of years. Perhaps not as a guaranteed starter, as we hopefully increase the quality of the squad and starting eleven, but he'd certainly be useful to keep and will always give 100%.

Play 'better' or get 'better' results?RocketLawnChair wrote:I don't have the trained eye of those in the professional game nor the expertise of some on here, so I will keep it simple. I don't know what it is but we always seem to play better when George Boyd is in the team...

I'd say both tbh Diesel.Diesel wrote:Play 'better' or get 'better' results?

I suppose both go hand in hand hey? Daft question in hindsight.RocketLawnChair wrote:I'd say both tbh Diesel.
As suggested in my previous posts though, Boyd has so much more to offer than just being a blocking, right sided, left footed defensive mid fielder.

This is a bit like the David Jones transfer out this summer. I guess it would be good for GB if he could extend his playing career by dropping a division.
Should we stand in his way?

Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
Totally different, we haven't offered Boyd a contract yet and if we do he still has to sign it. So we're not really standing in Boyds way yet. And Jones exercised a get out clause in his contract.boatshed bill wrote:This is a bit like the David Jones transfer out this summer. Re: George Boyd attracting interest from PL & EFL clubs
I hesitate to suggest that Boyd has had more poor games than good games for us
this season. His stats aren't that impressive either - just 1 goal and 0 assists.
He does however fit well into the 4-4-2 system as does Arfield hence they get picked
in most games.
Whether the rumoured interest in him is genuine I wouldn't be surprised if his contract isn't renewed.
If we survive this year it will be a major achievement but if we are to stay and prosper
in the top division it seems fairly obvious that we will need 2 or 3 new, and better players,
than we currently have.
Unfortunately and possibly sadly I'm afraid Boyd (alongside Arfield) might be two of the three we will
need to replace.
There's no room for sentiment but he will have served us reasonably well over the last few years
but, unless he ups his game and is more consistent then he may have to move on and could probably do a good job
for a year or two at a Championship club. I'd be very surprised if another top division club were interested.
