Keane to go in January ?
According to Nixon Man City have joined the race to sign Keane in January along with Everton and Chelsea for £20M, also we are going back in for Stephans at Brighton.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
Don't think Keane will leave in January but if he was to it'd be for much more than £20m surely
Re: Keane to go in January ?
I'd drive him to Everton or Manchester myself, Chelsea is too far though.
Re: Keane to go in January ?
Its simple do a deal now but hes loaned back to us till the end of the season

Re: Keane to go in January ?
I'm confident Tarks could fill his place, but it would seriously weaken the squad. I'd still keep him and see what summer brings. We don't need 20mil so it makes no sense unless Keane asks to go.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
City paid £50 million for Stones, so they'd need to up their bid if they want Keane.
I'm hoping though that Keane wouldn't want to leave right now.

Have you heard yourself?? We don't need £20mil?? I agree with you btw, I just can't believe that we're saying this about burnley!!Colburn_Claret wrote:I'm confident Tarks could fill his place, but it would seriously weaken the squad. I doubt he'll be going in January. No rush to sell him. I'm sure he'll be gone in the summer though, regardless of survival.
Also, is John Stones really 2.5x the player that Michael Keane is? I don't think so.

No chance we will sell him in January, and definitely not for the measly sum of 20 million

If £20 mil is their first offer and 3 teams want him, surely one of them will push it up to nearer £30 million or beyond.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
I said much earlier in the season that Keane would be in the England squad and, therefore, as a class central defender be worth £30 million. Anything less than that and we'll have been done.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
At £20 million- no chance
At £25 million- time to give some thought to it
At £30 million- time to go
At £35 million- drive them there yourself with a bow and wrapping paper
At £40 million- build a bigger dry powder bunker
More seriously; if Man City, Leicester, Everton or Chelsea want him then they will get more and more desperate as the transfer window goes on and any/all of those figures are possible. I would be looking right now for Keane's replacement and get them in now so that we can start the bonding process and preparing them for next season.
The next 8-9 days are going to get very interesting. The big boys need fresh blood and as a small fish we're going to have some offers thrown at us for players such as Keane and Heaton. Whilst I doubt that the player's head will necessarily be turned we have to think about the longer term and the bigger picture. A stupid offer for Keane would enable us to build a new Cricket Field Stand / fill in the gap between JHS/JMcS with state of the art dressing room facilities etc, it would reinforce to younger players at the big clubs that coming to us means being given time to prove yourself and to move on when the time is right and of course we could buy a replacement for Keane too.
Accepting a stupid sized bid will not mean that we're giving up on staying up; more that we're continuing with our policy of building and developing the club gradually. Especially as we have Tarkowski waiting for his chance to step up...
Also; can you imagine the looks on the faces of Blackburn Rovers fans when they see us accepting a bid for a single player whose value is greater than that or their entire first team squad and they have no money for new players????

Re: Keane to go in January ?
Neither will happen. Stephens will not be leaving BHA with their current position and Keane is happy at Burnley and seems pretty level headed.

It would be amusing to see him playing for City ahead of Stones.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
£40m minimum this guys a future England captain. If Chelsea come knocking it'd ask £35m and Cahill in the deal
Re: Keane to go in January ?
Money aside, for a defender is Man City the best option?
If I were a PL manager looking for a centre half right now, it'd be Virgil Van Dijk that would be top of my list. It's not a criticism of Keane but at only a year older I see a much better player in Van Dijk (of course that could change as they both progress and develop further).
In the current market though, 20 million is nothing like enough for Keane.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
Would not want to see Keane at City under Pep. His distribution is not his greatest asset and the way Pep makes em f-uck about with the ball and that clown of the keeper may expose Keane in the same way as it has exposed Stones.
If he went to Chelsea he would under Conte become a better player and be a better fit. He probably would not get in the team at the moment though - don't think Conte would sell any of his current centre backs with the exception of Terry.
Of the 3 clubs Everton probably best fit.
He would get in the Liverpool team aswell.
Scrap all of that- best fit is obviously to remain a Claret and carry on our journey to the Champions League !

Re: Keane to go in January ?
City interest if true could be great. The more clubs the better, you'd hope that will mean we receive a bigger fee if they try to outbid each other.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
The trouble with Keane going to a big club is one mistake and he could be benched for the rest of the season.
You get a few chances at clubs like Burnley but look how much stick Stones has come in for.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
Really he needs another season or two as a regular starter. Time is on his side but patience isn't really a word that is often used in football these days.

Re: Keane to go in January ?
No sense in selling in January with only half a job done. Our success is built on our home form and the meaness of the defence, 20M would hardly seem a sound profit.
It's not as though his price will decrease, no need to panic. Will probably go in the summer, it will be a massive loss to fill.

I'd also expect a nice sell on % too. 25% would be enough.

He'd probably triple his wages, get a seven figure signing on fee and join a Champions League club. If City put a proper bid in he'll go.

£20m no where near enough, particularly for a club with the size and resources of Man C.

man Utd have a 25% sell on fee from memory, Keane wont go for 20 million. If City want a defender with superb distribution then they would be better with Tarks and he's 75 million
