Football Manager 2017

Post by Rightfoot » Sun Jan 22, 2017 9:55 am

Does anyone play the game?

If so what do you all think of the number of English players on the game or lack of them. I'm only in 2018 and there is a very limited number of players available theres your first team squad then I checked out the under 21s there were 12 players in there. I tried to sign a 17 year old from Sunderland valued at £600k I put that offer in and they automatically asked for £133 million is this a sign of the times, there are very few English players coming through and those that are will cost a pretty packet?

Think this is typical and realistic on the English game currently. Always said players like Sterling, Stones, Rooney, Walker, Rose etc would never be worth as much as it is claimed they are worth if they weren't English.

Also in a manager confidence update the fans weren't happy I wasn't signing enough English players despite taking Coventry to the FA Cup Final and a 5th place finish in the Premier League within 4 years.

It's got way too in depth. I mean even for a dull back position you have about 10 different roles

Anyone still playing this, just got the game started with Burnley, not liking it so far, but going to stick with it for now. I've signed Bradley Dack, Tom Ince and some foreign left back and got shut of Arfield. Too much to do and takes ages. Much prefer the classic 2007 version but it won't play on windows10.

Play 'Classic' mode if you don't like the depth/detail.

Completely agree. There's a lot of setting up to do and keep on top of. However stick with it it does get quite good. I started off with St.Mirren and worked my way up.

FM07 for me is the perfect balance. I still play it on my old windows 7 machine just be careful and turn off auto updates as One of the graphics updates screws the game up.

But then you know you're missing out on other features. I've just been sacked in Feb in my 1st season with forest. In June now and jobless.

In around 2016 with Burnley. Just managed to challenge the top 4 and play CL football.

Have to agree with the English aspects. Only have 2 English players, one being a regen and the other Lewis Cook !

I'm still playing on 07. Been with the same small Italian lower league team for 22 (virtual) years.

Its so hard, btw if you want to cheat theres a little trick where you "add new manager" then chose to manage a club like City/Chelsea with a big transfer budget (multiple if you want) then bid all of the transfer budget for a player from the team your save is based on. I took all of Arsenal City Utd and Chelseas transfer budget and ended up with over £400M to spend. Then you retire from management on the Chelsea/City manager saves.

You do realise that real football management doesn't work like this when you're criticising Dyche, don't you?

I was just picturing his £400 million Hull City team getting beat by Burnley's Dycheball.

And then him throwing his laptop through the window.

Then he goes and posts on a forum complaining about how Burnley play their football.

Just giving RJ Pingling his debut because I've changed formation and need 3 strikers

The pinnacle of the game was the final version of 'Championship Manager' by SI. The 03/04 edition where Henry was on a free at the end of the season and Wimbledon were in financial crisis so you could buy Aaron Lennon for a farthing.

I still play it occasionally. I took Palermo to 7 league titles, 3 cups and 4 Champions League titles and I'm in 2026.

On an unrelated note I dont have many friends XD

I suppose it's which game you have 'got addicted to the most'. For me it was FM12 where I set myself the challenge of being the Fergie of Burnley. I'm in and around the same year and won something similar, 10 Pl titles and 2 champions leagues and a few other cups. I skipped FM 13 because of it then felt compelled to get with the times on FM 14, didn't do much and went back to my FM 12 game. Ditto for FM16 and now thinking of doing the same for FM17.

Champ 01/02 for me.

Quick game play and very good to hop on if you've 30 mins spare here and there. Don't need to dedicate your life to it to do a season.

The new ones just don't compare.

In July 2029 with Plymouth, got from 15th in League 2 to winning the premier league in 6 seasons, just won my 3rd premier league and 4th FA cup. On another save with Burnley I'm in August 2022, won 2 premier leagues, 2 EFL cups, 1 FA cup, 1 champions league and the community shield. It is the handheld edition though...

I am slightly addicted

I gave up on these games about 10 years ago; they took too long then so I can't imagine what they're like now.

The best version was the classic 01/02 with legends such as Tonton Zola Moukoko ha ha!! I wasted a lot of time on that game at Uni... too much time. I built a great team with Hearts if I remember rightly; Ronaldinho, Kallstrom, Svensson, Anelka etc etc... silly game really but very addictive.

Finished first season in 15th with 36 points. Got rid of the grandads Barton, marney and ward and loaned out vokes to Ajax. Managed to get Vincent Janssen and rob holding on loan and snapped up Ben Gibson for 8 mil when boro relegated. Currently got Pocognoli and Kirchoff on trial. Also giving Hennings game time as he's banging them in pre season. Got a few signings in the pipeline but struggling to find a decent rb.

Opposition Instructions I always change them all to 'hard tackling' 'weaker foot' etc, only ones I don't change is hard tackling on the strikers !

I love Football Manager games, I buy the laptop and the android version. Only problem is that I do get bored after playing for a while, I normally start with a team in the bottom league and take them all the way.

Best bet is it pilfer young players from abroad. You'll get knocked back for 99 percent of work permits, but the odd one comes off. Search attributes, pick a bulk lot and set them all at 12/13 then filter on age and value. Normally pick up some worldies that the scout doesn't rate, give them a year and the scout thinks they are 5 star. Callum Gribbin from United is normally cheap and turns very decent if you play him a bit.

Currently in season 6 with Poole Town. In League Two play off zone after about 15 games. Long, long slog.
