Marney injury

Post by Lowbankclaret » Sun Jan 22, 2017 4:40 pm

watching the replay his studs caught in he ground and twisted his knee, if it another knee op, I cannot see him playing for us again.
Hope I am wrong but it looked really bad

Marney is one of my favourite players but again he has made a ridiculous challenge when there was no need to, just stand up to Ozil as he's going nowhere.

He not only injured himself but gave a freekick away in a dangerous position, i really hope it's just a twist and nothing more.

Marney looked quite good today but in recent games has looked a bit off it. Not sure how far past this season he can go.

A stupid challenge, a deserved booking and unfortunately something that has been getting more likely to happen with each passing week.

Clearly not been fully fit for months and has been way off the pace lately, this nerve damage thing is really inhibiting him. No idea why he didn't come off instead of Hendrick today, he was limping for the duration.

Why do we continue to play him every week if he's carrying an injury ? Need to drag ourselves away from the 13-14 axis, these players won't be around forever - youth required.

Hope it's minor.

33 isn't a great age to be trying to recover from a long-term knee injury.

So he's gone from being very good for us in previous weeks to people now saying we've been carrying him, time to get rid etc.

Only on here.

There seems to be a thread about Marneys injuries after every game. Hopefully he'll be alright, he was playing well again beforehand.

he has some nerve damage which he is playing on with.

It has affected his performance but another serious knee injury would mean his time is probably up.
Not that I am happy about that.
He has been great for us.

Not sure anyone has said we're carrying him nor that it's time to get rid.

Have you watched us in the last month or so? He's been poor and keeps coming off injured. Dyche keeps telling us he's got an ongoing nerve damage problem.

I seriously hope it's not a serious injury as that will more than likely retire him. Looked bad on the magic lantern

unless it's a "looked worse than it is" then we will need to sign his replacement a year or so early imho. Phone calls will be going in on monday morning unfortunately :(

Fully agree,

I was encouraged yet again with Barton and Tarks in the centre though.

His contract is up in the summer of 2018.
IF its serious, would only have 6 months left by the time he got back.
So he may well play a few games before then

That's because no one did say that. Fact remains it's not 2013 anymore and we need to look to younger reinforcements...and I like Marney, been a good player for us, but time moves on. With the possibility of Barton's ban on the immediate horizon it's even more paramount.

Defour was visiy knackered and never lasts 90. Marney looked to be tiring and has been carrying a knock.

Hendrick offers something neither have which is youth, height and physicality. Something Arsenal dont like.

Not sure its fair playing Defour on the wing, does not suit his style.

He did look like he was getting tired.

We now need two additions in the next 10 days

In a cup game where his hand was forced. Hes not played 90 in one league match. Id love him to stay on every week but today especially he was visually exhausted.

Three, unless we're not bothering with the idea of having 4 strikers subsequent to Bamford's departure.

Other than throwing Vokes on there's not alot in terms of attacking options from the bench, nothing that could change a game. I would add that I'm not a Kightly fan, if we could get three in he'd be the first out for me - not that I think anyone would be desperate enough to take him off our hands as he's probably on decent money comparative to Championship/ League One level.

He played the full 90mins in both games against Sunderland in the cup.

As for today, I don't know if the tackle by Xhaka resulted in him feeling pain, because he went off less then 10mins later or Dyche made the change for tactical reasons.

Could either, or he could still be unfit, I don't know, none of us do.

PS he was on the wing, he isn't a winger and maybe doesn't have the stamina for that role.

He's not been fully fit for a good number of months now, was only a matter of time until he broke down.

With Marney out for what looks like a long period, Barton about to get a ban and Defour's inability to last the 90; another CM has suddenly become vital this window.

You have to ask how do we after getting it to one a piece (and them being down to ten men), end up with Marney having a race with Ozil to stop a break.

It was pretty crap all round from us after scoring the penalty, regardless of offside and whether it's a penalty or not.

Not specifically a sports scientist but I am a neuroscientist - fair to say nerve damage will have affected Marney badly and increased the chances of sustaining muscular/ ligament damage. It sounds like that's happened today.

The club should really employ someone to monitor the health and fitness of our players.

Leaving aside the usual sarcasm, I'm just pointing out that they've taken a risk with Marney as Dyche himself has told us Marney has on-going nerve damage.

That's fair enough, but in a previous post you did say that it was only a matter of time until Marney broke down. That infers that our medical staff haven't done their job properly, it also is making a wild assumption as to the nature and severity of Marney's injury. It's a little early to speculate on either.

First and foremost let's hope it isn't serious. Last time we were in the prem his injury was a major factor in our relegation this time we have more cover more money and TBH he hasn't been quite as influential this season.

Indeed, let's wait and see and hope for the best.

I wasn't criticising anybody, and certainly nowhere did I suggest the medical staff haven't done their jobs properly. The risk, however big or small, was taken but unfortunately with this type of injury further injuries were always likely.

I've been one of Marney's biggest supporters, especially when he was taking a lot of stick from posters a couple of years ago on CM. I also think his injury against WBA in the PL last time out was a pivotal moment in our demise. Saying that, I don't think Marney's been at the top of his game for a while. May be he's been carrying an injury, not sure, but he's certainly been off the pace and also picking up regular bookings. Hope injury isn't anything serious and he's back in contention very soon but fully fit.

The difference this time is that Marney's injury (and hopefully it's not a cruciate or anything too serious) is that it's happened whilst we still have opportunity to bring in a replacement and we are already better off in that position than we were.

We must now get in a central midfielder and a winger, at the very least, in this window.

Reasonably certain its an anterior cruciate injury. When he was lying on the pitch the Physio checked his knee by doing an anterior draw test, following which he had his leg strapped up and was put on a stretcher. Pretty sure that the Pysio suspected an ACL tear, I don't know if its the same knee or not though. This will make a difference to repair / recovery.

The MRI will show for definite but he may not necessarily have this done immediately.
