Re: Stephens
There have been enough transfer windows now for most people to get how they work. There will be more deals done in the next 8 days than the previous 23 days in total. Clubs and Agents knowing they have a full month to sort a deal are in no rush when the thought of more money for their player by holding out.
If you accept that most deals are done in the last week, it stops you getting upset or worried in the early part of the window when very little happens.

The transfer window should only be open for 1 week. It would save a lot of trouble and worry for everyone involved. IMO.

Is the panic button similar to the Trident launch button?
If so, better check the wiring.
Let's hope Sean doesn't feel the need to press it whilst pacing up and down his technical area on 31st January.

If Stephens still wants to come to Burnley then he will come. Might be January or summer.
He will be welcomed with open arms.

Pretty sure he recently said he intended to see his contract out at Brighton so perhaps more chance of a summer free move if we stay up. Also sure he changed his agent after he didn't get his move in August.

Like others can't see this happening unless
the club know something we don't.
i.e Brighton are willing to let him go.
If it does then fair enough.
If it doesn't then really don't know why we're linked or bidding for him - if we are?

Re: Stephens
Same reason we kept bidding for lansbury because dyche must rate him highly and if marney is goosed he will be a like for like replacement . But i cant see it happening so we need to move on
Re: Stephens
If we are just testing the water with Stephens and at present
it doesn't seem more than that, if anything at all.
Would to prefer to think that it's just a rumour and
that we make a serious bid for someone else tomorrow.
And make sure we get our targets in by the end of the week
and not leave it to Tuesday. Anyone we do get in before Saturday might give
Dyche the chance of playing them against Bristol City in the Cup - if eligible
and if not then against Leicester on Tuesday.
It's a really important match - one that neither team will wish to lose
and both play to win.
A win for us will certainly put us within shouting distance of staying up
whilst putting more pressure on our rivals - including Leicester.
If Watford, Palace, Hull, Swansea and Sunderland lose (or some of them do)
then we'll be at least 11 -13 points above the bottom three with a much better goal difference.
That's got to be a hell of a lot to make up even with 16/17 games to go.

Re: Stephens
Gone awfully quiet on transfers, what ever happened to the bids for Brady, Snodgrass and Nagatomo? the media posting the news that we initially bid haven't reported whether the bids were rejected or not. Boro had an £8M bid for Snodgrass rejected today but Hull signed Markovic (Snodgrass' replacement?). There really is no point getting worried and worked up (I learnt that last time) lets just wait and see what happens..

I'm sort of thinking that if we beat Leicester Macca thinks we won't then go on and lose every other game.

I think a thread about us singing Stephens in this transfer window should probably have been better posted under the 'Alternative Facts' thread.

A. We wont lose every remaining game.joey13 wrote:We won't say up with 29pts
B. There are far too many teams between us and 18th for us to be relegated.
C. You are asking for teams that have only won 4 in 22 to do the same in 16 games, plus we would have to lose all our games.
D. If you think we will get relegated IF we beat Leicester, go and have a no lose bet, you will get some very nice odds.

Just sensible.
The fact it has never happened before tells you all you need to know.
As much chance of relegation as we are to make Europe..

In addition, the points gained by the bottom three after 22 matches is lower than at any time since the Premier league became a 38 game season.MACCA wrote:A. We wont lose every remaining game.

From 15th downwards (Leicester) all the teams have less than a point per game and as they all have to play each other then further points will be dropped.
That would suggest it could be a low point total to stop up.

Re: Stephens
The target is still 39 - 40 points.
Plenty of teams have dropped like a stone in the second half of the season.

We haven't had a run of bad form yet, and going into a 4 away game streak shortly could be the start of one.

That may be the case, but with the points as low as they are in the bottom half there are simply not enough points available for all the teams to get up to 40 points - unless the top sides start to lose on a regular basis.
Nothing to do with form, just that there aren't enough games left for teams to get to the 40 point mark.

With us and Liverpool ( v Wolves) having both home ties in the FA Cup I suspect we'll only have the three away games in a row.

I don't think for one minute that Sean Dyche and his Coaching Staff will let the grass grow under their feet. This team will, like last time out, play to the very last kick of the very last game.

Surely we should be trying to finish as high up the table as possible - at £2 - £2.5m for each place - that is the cost of running a tier 2 Academy for a year or more
