Same. Funny thatPWBFC wrote:January 95 away at Pompey. Freezing cold 2-0 defeat and Marlon got sent off for handball.
Happy times.
Re: Your first Clarets away game.
Mine was the Sherpa final at Wembley too.
How about your first away game without a parent/adult? Mine was PNE away in 1993 (think it was Autoglass cup and we lost 2-1). Seem to remember a long and quiet walk back to Preston Central station that night.....

FA Cup game at Oldham circa 1973/74.
Think we won 4-1 or 4-2 something like that- my memories a bit hazy but I seem to recall there was a flurry of goals in last few minutes.

Re: Your first Clarets away game.
I've actually been informed that I went to Preston for the semi final of the Sherpa van so that would be my first. As for no parents, prob Doncaster in 1992, champions season. Went with friends dad.MattBFC wrote:Mine was the Sherpa final at Wembley too.

68 or 69, Old Trafford, maybe. Alternatively, Peel Park (old) Stanley v Burnley Select XI in 1962 (or maybe 61). It was a friendly and I lived close to Peel Park, so not sure if it counts as "away."
Ewood, Anfield, Elland Road were some of the other "near by" games I got to.
These days it's all the South East games and a few further afield - and get back to Turf when I can. I've had 3 and a half STs in last few seasons but only got on Turf for half a dozen games through that period (but it near enough g'teed tickets for the London games I wanted). All worth it to see the Clarets back in the Prem.

Re: Your first Clarets away game.
Not 100%. Def did the Bury cup game in 1980. First without parents was Carlisle on Boxing Day either 80 or 81. Viscount Central coach only just made it through the snow. I was 11 or 12 years old. Remember it kicked off outside a pub shortly after we arrived and sure we went 3 down in the first half.....

Deepdale 1988 Sherpa Van semi final
Had no idea I was going and couldn't understand why my mum was giving me my tea at 4:30 when we usually waited for my dad to get home from work around 5:30.
He came flying into the house shouted at me to get ready, ran upstairs showered, changed and ate his tea in 10mins and we were in the car by 6

Ditto!Smallpaul wrote:Sherpa van trophy final vs Wolves at Wembley 1988
1st away league match watching the Clarets was Carlisle when we ran over the pitch to the other stands! Great day out!
1st 'away' match of neutral grounds was Goddison where we saw Everton beat Man U 5-0. About 84?

Re: Your first Clarets away game.
Not my first away game - but my first game in London 6 weeks or so after I'd moved down here. Sort of the Clarets following me down here to help welcome me.Smallpaul wrote:Sherpa van trophy final vs Wolves at Wembley 1988

1973/4 Carlisle Utd on ribblesdale coach from Accrington
Total madness
There were Burnley fans climbing through the skylights on the way home
Some fans didn't even manage to got home after the police stopped the coaches on the moterway near Penrith

Charlton Athletic (2) v Burnley (0) , 25 September 1971
was 11, I recall there was some crowd trouble in those days where fans could walk around the ground freely.

Blimey, ptangyang and Minnie , I don't remember those details.
Strange what sticks in the mind....as I said earlier I just remember the look on Gerry Payton's face having conceded that goal at Blackpool......

Re: Your first Clarets away game.
Never seen that footage daz. In all those years I had it in my head that 2 Burnley defenders went up for an header and macdonald beat em to it and headed it in. My excuse is I was at the top right of the screen just out of that shot and not that tall. Plus the tears blurred my vision. The subsequent years of beer have buggered my memory!Dazzler wrote:So did I when the kin geordies were oining us as we walked back to the coaches.
No headed goals though.

March 1985 at Burnden Park when the Clarets won 3-1.
Two things stand out from that day: 1) my amazement that the Manchester Road Stand was made of wood; 2) Neil Grewcock's opening goal - a 25 yarder into the top corner.

Rochdale in the 88/89 season. I think we lost 2-1. It came over fourteen years after seeing my first home game, due to my family moving to Canada. I had left in '77 only ever seeing us win (even against Chelsea who were at the top of Div 2 at the time). What I came back to was a little different.
Re: Your first Clarets away game.
My eldest - now seventeen - can brag she was at Millwall in '99 as a six-week-older. My partner breast-fed her in the stands, worrying whether a Burnley fan might brandish a copy of Debretts.
