Swansea Away

Post by Elder statesman » Wed Jan 25, 2017 5:58 pm

Sorry for hijacking the Bournemouth thread. Now that the Sky fixtures are out for March and this game isn't down to be televised , I guess I can go ahead and book the train and hotel? Does anyone know the away allocation? We do have well over 5000 points. Season ticket holders who go to away games, unheard of on here!
Thanks for the link to splitting tickets on the other thread. It looks like being a long and expensive trip but its the only ground we haven't done.
Thanks utc

Allocation will depend on what is offered by the home club on a sale or return basis. Last time we were in the Prem we only took the initial allocation of around 1200 and that was enough. I would have thought that if you've 5000+ points you shouldn't have a problem getting tickets.

Just had a look on the trainline and it looks a horrible journey to Swansea and back. It was saying the train gets you back to Burnley for 9.20 the next morning haha

Looking at going Friday to Sunday. Was hoping the Supporters Club might have had one of their weekend trips there. Been on some good ones. Looks like the train for us.

If you're making a weekend of it why not drive through the scenic Wales and stop off in various villages along the way? Cut through Snowdonia and Bobs your uncle.

If you're staying for the weekend I'd suggest the Mumbles or Gower areas (B&B), but if its a centre city break then there are several hotels in the centre or near the centre - players normally stay at the Marriott on the sea front/marina

My memory of the allocation was here's 1200 and that's your lot and that was sold out

Booked Holiday Inn, Swansea East, which it says is 4 miles out. Free cancellation so no probs and a good deal. A lot of the other hotels just have doubles. Now for the trains.

Try Queens Hotel for real ale - proper old pub in the city centre near the marina - Gloucester Place, Maritime Quarter, Swansea SA1 1TY

Holiday Inn is on its own next to the motorway. In the centre there is Premier Inn, Travelodge, Morgans, Marriott, Dragon Hotel, Grand Hotel. Mumbles has loads of B&Bs and pubs and is a seaside village. The Gower brewery is based in the tiny "Pilot" pub. http://www.thepilotofmumbles.co.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Many thanks for that. A lot of those just have doubles. I love my mate, but not that much . Will look again tomorrow.

Trains to Swansea are a nightmare - worked down there for 6 months - 7 hours each way at best - connections from Crewe or Bristol only - The train from Crewe travels at 40 mph and trundles through Shrewsbury and Hereford and the like - nice scenery for the most part but usually only 2 carriages rather than the 4 is should have - also connections are awful on the way back used to be 50 min wait at Crewe and at least 30 at Preston,

I would say Drive if you can the A43 through Wales is a lovely scenic road and the journey will be a good 2 hours less

Or go on one of the various supporters clubs coaches and save yourself the hassle of driving!

Thanks Pete. We've done many trips with Accy Clarets but we were always planning a weekend in Swansea.

For anybody considering the train to Swansea on the day of the match be warned that there are engineering works between Port Talbot and Swansea and you will be kicked off the train and do the last 45 minutes of your journey on a bus. That will mean a journey from Manchester on the train of 5 hours and 20 minutes. Add to that the time to get to Piccadilly and it's an awfully long day.

Are you sure it's 45 mins from Port Talbot on the bus? It's only 15 mins from Port Talbot to Swansea. More if they're stopping at Neath as well but I doubt it's 45.

By the way trains are about 4 hours from Manchester without any changes.
