I posted, as many did, several weeks back re return of Joey Barton - what would we do if one of midfield got injured - just like it happened to Marney two years ago.

It's happened again, just a little bit earlier. Work to be done in this transfer window - though that was always the case.

Best wishes to Dean for a speedy and full recovery - and more Premier league games next season to look forward to.

Sad news.

We're certainly better equipped to deal with his absence than we were last time and there's still a few day of the window left to get someone in.

I fear that could be the end of his career (his Burnley career anyway).

A bit deja vu from 2 years ago and shocking news for Marney.

Let's hope we have someone lined up.

Hope for a speedy recovery as possible and that we see him again in a Burnley shirt.

I'm surprised we would reveal this now unless we already have a deal over the line to provide cover for him.

Probably not the best time to mention it, so I apologise in advance, but after two cruciates, and given his age, I feel we have now seen the best of him.

Been a good player for us though, and I hope he makes a full recovery.

What with advances in medical science and whatnot, it doesn't necessarily mean his career is over and I'm sure he can do a job for someone, but I feel that by the time he's back and ready to play again, we may have moved on. Time will tell though.

Get well soon Dean!

It shows how tribal football is.

Had an opposition player made a challenge like that on one of our players, I suspect there'd be some gloating on here if he'd sustained a serious injury.

Just the way it is. :(

Absolutely paramount we sign a central midfielder this window now - with Barton still potentially facing a ban we really do need someone.

Terrible news, especially at his age. Wouldn't say it was a needless challenge, however if he had his time again I'm sure he would approach it differently. Big Big 5 days now for this club now , 4 more wins and we should be close to safe.

Depends on the circumstances I suppose, but in this case, as I don't know Dean Marney personally, I doubt he'd welcome me at his hospital bedside, whatever my views on his silly challenge.

I should stress that I wish him well in his recovery though.

This awful news just about puts the final nail in what was a terrible day at The Emirates. Deano suffers season ending injury and no doubt Wenger the Cheat will get a slap on the wrist and the incompetent lino will be back getting paid for doing a crap job. Meanwhile we somehow have to find a replacement before the window shuts.

Yes, sad but probably inevitable news for Marney and the Club.
Wish him the best in respect to his recovery and hope he still manages
to play for us.
It still gives us a chance of getting a replacement in unlike two years ago.

Yes but reading some on here its his own fault FCBurnley. He was silly and needless. I personally thought he was just trying his hardest to make a challenge in football match and sadly it resulted in a terrible injury.

Gutted for him - always gives his all for the shirt

Shame it happened during an unnecessary tackle, but I guess that's part and parcel of his full blooded nature.

Hope this won't spell the end of his carreer, but we need a replacement for him

By the look on Deano's face after the injury you got the feeling it was bad. You've come back from it before Deano and here's hoping that you make a quick recovery and come back stronger. We need you.

A player eho has got better with his age and is better after his last acl. If anyone can do it marney can.

Uneasy on the eye. Far from flash. Maximises his limitations. Puts everything into every game. A stereotypical Dyche and Burnley player of there ever was one. Awful news all round.

Hope the club look after a player who has served us well. In an era of greedy primadonnas hes a rarity. No doubt he is paid well but to take a paycut to stay with us speaks volumes.

A message to you Marney

Post by Clarettintedlense » Thu Jan 26, 2017 3:20 pm

Terrible news regarding his injury. He must be feeling pretty low right now. Legend is a word banded round too often. But Marney has played a critical role in two promotions and in our success to date this year. A player who always puts his all into every game. And his commitment to the cause never clearer than when he took a pay cut to stay with the club. That to me is a legend.

I posted on the other thread, i hope the club look after him during this time and beyond. He has been a stereotypical Dyche player and a stereotypical Burnley fans favourite. A real lynchpin. Underrated by many does all of the dirty work and takes very few plaudits. Probably how he likes it.

Hopefully this thread can generate some good messages that can be printed off and sent to Marney so he knows the esteem in which the fans hold him and help him get through a difficult year ahead.

If anyone can get through this its Marney. A player who has got better with age in spite of injuries.

Lets hope he is pulling on the number 8 shirt this time next year for the clarets.

Tough luck on Deano and best wishes. The man is a machine and will be back fit no doubt to play football again.

He'll be cursing that tackle for months, whereas if he had just landed from a jump he'd know he couldn't have avoided it. I thus think mental is just as big a challenge as physical, although a 2nd ACL on the same knee has a much higher failure rate which obviously the club know (I think its about 15%). It's hard to imagine Dean playing for Burnley again, but whether he does or doesn't he'll be remembered fondly.
