Gray is likely to be going in the summer we need to get his replacement now, an injury to Gray would leave us very depleted.
Re: Get that striker in SD
We do need a striker this window.
ABC, I'll bet you that Gray doesn't leave in the summer.

Gray going in the summer? Making up problems that just aren't there.
Re: Get that striker in SD
I feel that we do need a 4th first team ready striker, but the absolute priority has to be that elusive pacy wide player, and cover/replacement for Marney.

Long term we definitely need a striker for next season to hopefully partner Gray, as good as Vokes/Barnes are for us they don't offer a consistent goal threat.

Which striker do you suggest?

Re: Get that striker in SD
I've been trying to think of potential options for a striker and I am struggling to identify anyone who is available and affordable that is better than Bamford.
Re: Get that striker in SD
So signing a replacement to cover a POSSIBILITY of an injury to Gray is more important than signing a replacement for an ACTUAL injury to Marney?ablueclaret wrote:Gray is likely to be going in the summer we need to get his replacement now, an injury to Gray would leave us very depleted.
OK
Re: Get that striker in SD
I've been watching Sebastien Haller's progress for a couple of years now and would suggest him as a wildcard option so to speak. May now be out of our reach from when I originally suggested him.

I'd like to see us try and sign Connor Whickham. Good target man and an upgrade on vokes. Would fit in with the system and might be interested by a first team slot?

Once Tarky nails his centre-midfield role he'll be striding forward and knocking in goals galore from 20 - 25 yards. no need for a striker

Taylor at Bristol Rovers, 300K due his release clause. Scores for fun, got to be worth a punt at that money even if it's only for cover (we paid Bamford more in wages)

Absolutely Sidney goals aplenty from Tarka but he's just too mobile to cement a place in the side.

Re: Get that striker in SD
Taylor's journey does have a bit of Austin about it, but he's already 26. Quite the step up to make, not just in terms of ability but in terms of professionalism & fitness.
Zac Clough could be a good acquisition. Needs to continue to play to develop though, not be a 4th choice striker. Would like to see us sign him, but loan him back until the summer.
Assombalonga does look like he has the ability and pace to try and step up in the prem. His injury record is a worry though.

Re: Get that striker in SD
Yeah, lets get clough, 7 goals last season in 28 games and 7 so far this season in league 1.
Now would you play him as Striker, just behind the striker or as an attacking midfielder?

Re: Get that striker in SD
Clough is an excellent prospect, to be fair. Not sure why there's the need for so many sarcastic responses. Becomes quite tiresome reading them on every thread.
I think a striker is essential, too, for what it's worth. If Gray goes, we've Vokes and Barnes only which has absolutely no pace. There's a lot of clamour for a "4th choice striker" - not sure I buy that, I'd be going for a first or second choice striker. We need to keep on improving. Can't see that in January, mind, as I think we'll prioritise the wing and central midfield.

Ulloa would be an upgrade on what we have got. Not sure a striker is a priority right now though

We're talking the summer, yeah? There doesn't seem to be any signal that Gray is going anywhere this window, so not sure why we need a striker. Let's see what division we're in first come the end of the season.MDWat wrote:I think a striker is essential, too, for what it's worth. We only have 3! If Gray gets injured, we've no pace up top. Think we're just a little bit light.FactualFrank wrote:We're talking the summer, yeah? Re: Get that striker in SD
A striker is not higher priority than a midfielder. It doesn't matter how good our strikers are, if our service isn't good enough then they'll struggle. We've known for a long time that we can improve the quality in the wide midfield positions - ie by injecting some pace and better quality deliveries into the box. With Arfield and Gudmundsson recently picking up injuries we're having to play Defour out wide because Dyche doesn't want to play Kightly, for whatever reason. Up front we have Gray, Barnes and Vokes, all of whom have displayed good performances this season. Unless we're planning on signing a striker who is better than these 3 (at what cost?!) then what's the point in signing a striker to be backup? abc was just saying earlier that there's no point signing numbers for the sake of it. I'd be delighted if we sign a striker as well but let's not kid ourselves...a wide midfielder and central midfielder are the clear priorities.
Re: Get that striker in SD
Have to agree that we need another striker and/or a winger who can score as well as create.
We can't take the risk of losing any one of Gray, Barnes or Vokes to injury.
However, we also can't take the risk of losing anyone of Defour, Hendrik or Barton (who we may well lose to a ban anyway).
I know we've got Arfield and Gudmundsson to come back but neither of them can really replace any of the above.
The only other player we have who might be able to fill in at midfield is O'Neil but he hasn't
really been given much of an opportunity and one feels Dyche doesn't think he's ready yet.
At present I feel our best team has Barton, Hendrick and Defour starting in midfield.
and with either Gray, Barnes or Vokes up front.
So,that leaves us potentially short in midfield especially if Defour continues to struggle to last
90 mins and Barton gets a ban.
So for me the first priority is a midfielder followed closely by a forward.
No idea who they might be but would be very concerned if we didn't manage
to get them in. We'd be leaving ourselves very exposed.

Agreed. Does seem to have gone under the radar.
Could do with using that freed up loan space to bring in a young lad as depth.

We've got 3 goal scoring strikers....
It's going to take a catastrophe for all 3 to be either banned or injured at the same time.
