Few links suggesting Burnley are going to try get Westwood in before the deadline.

Yep, been seeing that too for about an hour.
Re: Ashley Westwood
Apparently they are prepared to throw in Lansbury in as well to make it more tempting

Hopefully nothing in this one for me.
If he can't get in a struggling Villa team in the league below, I'm not sure he's one to improve on what we have, aside from being a much needed extra body in midfield to cover Marney.

I'd rather we got Bradley Dack from Gillingham

I'd rather we got someone else personally, Gosling is a better player if there was any truth in that link.
McCarthy from Everton would be my choice, however wages and price tag would probably be out of our reach I'd imagine.

Re: Ashley Westwood
I'd rather have him as a central option over Scott Arfield. Let's face it...Marney out for season, Barton will get banned, Defour doesn't always complete 90 minutes & really Tarkowski is a central defender. If it's a cheap enough deal then I would mind this! I'd even have David Jones back on loan as cover as he never gets a game at Wednesday! I love Arfield but don't feel as though he is quite good enough for the premier league.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Isn't this Board strange. Posters now denigrating Westwood yet go back to last season and posters were wetting themselves about good he was and saying he was just what we needed. Hmmm perhaps their expectations are getting above themselves.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Can't be a bad player with over 100 Premier League appearances. I honestly don't put much stock in what fans of other clubs think. Arfield is an often used example of how a player can exceed expectations with a change of club and most importantly, manager. We were linked with Westwood a fair bit last summer as well so wouldn't surprise me if there's something in this.

He's a sideways player, I'd rather we signed Bianca, much rather see her go box to box
Re: Ashley Westwood
Precisely. We need someone who can put the work in so Defour is pretected, as Marney did.Hedontplayforyou wrote:Exactly what I was going to say.

Re: Ashley Westwood
I think if you look back to when he was previously linked in the summer, there were a fair few not keen on him being brought in. I don't think it's a case of anyone's expectations rising significantly, although there is something to be said for that as that's how we will continue to improve.LaLigaClaret wrote:Isn't this Board strange. Re: Ashley Westwood
I think that the question should be: 'Is he a better central midfield option than a converted winger in Arfield or a converted central defender in Tarkowski?'
If the answer is yes, which it clearly is, then get him on board.

Re: Ashley Westwood
IDWT if Sean sees a player there then that is ok by me. Always looked to lack the things we give. Commitment and a more direct style. If we can do it then 3.5 m for a young midfielder is peanuts in this age.
Re: Ashley Westwood
£3.5m bid reports from that fl92 account on twitter are rubbish. Although it might be close to that.
I don't think we are at a stage to pick and choose our Centre Mids. I would like a loan with the option to buy

Re: Ashley Westwood
I was just looking at the latest various transfer odds on SkyBet & noticed Ashley Westwood had appeared on there. Only 2 sets of odds are quoted: stay at Villa 9/4; go to Burnley 1/3.
Also note Brady is 2/5 go to Burnley, 7/4 stay at Norwich.

Only two players have started more league games for Villa this season and I think he'd be an outstanding signing, if only for the reason that an article was written last summer.DCWat wrote:Hopefully nothing in this one for me.

Re: Ashley Westwood
Never been a stand-out player for me but you usually need at least one bread and butter player in a good team. I have to say that with the two others looking very promising the upgrading of our squad is happening much quicker than I had previously anticipated.
Re: Ashley Westwood
My concern (barring my innacuracy in his appearances ) is that I don't think he's enough of an upgrade. I do appreciate we definitely need bodies in midfield but would hope for better, from what I've seen of him.
Would he be a long term option if we were looking next summer, or would there be better options out there then, Stephens for example? If the latter then do we need to be spending 3 million plus on a player now that may not improve the starting XI?
Perhaps difficult to get a suitable loan in, but that may perhaps be a wiser option.
Saying all that, I wasn't keen on signing Hendrick and he's really starting to look the part

Re: Ashley Westwood £5m bid accepted
Sounds a sensible signing. We need backups in midfield with the likelihood that Barton will get a ban.
If we get the over two over the line, it would be a very impressive transfer window for us. Much better than those lower teams in the relegation battle.

According to the Birmingham Mail he has fallen well down the pecking order at Villa following recent arrivals including Lansbury etc.

Can't see it happening. But if the stars align we could be seeing around £28m spent on the last day. Crazy.
Re: Ashley Westwood £5m bid accepted
Probably wouldn't be the first midfielder I'd have us sign, but he might just fit in very well at Burnley and prove to be a shrewd addition and will provide much needed cover for us.
Westwood, Brady and Robertson and we should be the ones laughing.

Whatever Villa fans think of him, let's give the lad a chance if he does sign. £5m is a steal in this market. He could turn out to be a hidden gem.
