The only disappointing thing about that performance is that Joey Barton isn't 5 years younger.

Him and Hendrick were absolutely imperious.

8's all round with the exception of Defour who I can't mark as he looked to be struggling quite early on.

All were excellent, if only Lowton could cross a ball...

Heaton 8 - such a safe pair of hands
Lowton 7 - very strong defensively but we need better crossing
Keane 8 - very strong again to night
Mee 8 - only complaint is his distribution at times
Ward 8 - much better than Lowton going forward
Boyd 7 - seem to drift in and out of the game
Barton 8 - so good tonight, won so many balls
Hendrick 9* - a few misplaced passes, but a box to box performance
Defour 7 - thought he did ok
Barnes 8 - a battling performance which made a real contribution
Gray 8 - see Barnes, probably his best performance for us in the PL not withstanding his three goals against Sunderland

Arfield 7 - slotted in well

Heaton - 8 thought he made a mistake going to Vary, one think contact was enough for his theatrics mind.

Lowton - 8 lots of good interlink play on the right. Really growing into this season
Keane - 9 rarely trouble and a few really good bits of defending
Mee - 8 largely excellent and a threat up top too.
Ward - 8 excellent also dealt well with Mahrez and provided crucial support

Boyd - 8 good game from Boyd. Got down the flanks well and a few actual dribbles!
Hendrick - 9 was everywhere, never lost the ball, strong as an of on the ball too. Wonderful.
Barton - 10* ran the show. Did everything and did it with energy and skill. The game appeared to slow when he was on the ball and he rarely was step possession. I think I'm in love.
Defour - not long enough. Hope he's okay.

Gray - 9 battled hard and was a real handful. Won balls, burst into the box with pace and could've 'won' two penalties. Really stepped up his game.
Barnes - 9 up against two of the roughest defenders but never gave them an inch. Passion overflowed and he got given nothing by Dean despite a lot of physicality (maybe he's earned it). Talisman upfront

Arfield - 8 involved and used the ball well. Good delivery from corners. Needs to get down the wing more.
Vokes - 8 did a lot with not much time on the field. Great player.
Tarkowski not on long enough.

Brimming with pride tonight. Come on you clarets!

Edit. Heaton upgraded to an 8 after the penalty incident and the superb save from vardys pounce.

Heaton 7 - Mostly assured on a tough surface. Maybe a touch lucky with the one that bounced to Vardy but who cares?
Lowton 7 - Pushed forwards and a great game but unfortunately -1 for his crossing. Wasnt the only culprit, mind.
Mee 7 - Struggled against Mahrez but otherwise composed.
Keane 8 - Solid and would have had a goal had he not been manhandled in the six yard box.
Ward 8 - Solid, better crossing than Lowton and strong in the air.
Boyd 6 - Got forwards but seemed to lose possession easily under pressure.
Barton 9* - Utterly dominant.
Hendrick 8 - Not far from Barton's performance but faded once he'd been fouled by the Leicester player.
Defour 6 - Started but faded fast once injured early on.
Barnes 8 - Lots of effort and typical gutsy Barnes performance. Made some wrong choices but still made sure the Leicester centre halves knew they had a game.
Gray 8 - Had their back two on toast for pace and they were always panicking once he had the ball. All he was missing was a goal.

Arfield 6 - Tried to press but caught in possession a few times and could have cost us a goal.
Vokes 7 - Made his presence felt and +1 for the goal. I still dont get how for a big man he gets caught under the ball so often.

Heaton 7 - was it a pen? I wish he hadn't given the ref the decision to make.
Lowton 8 - Really good defensively and a constant outlet
Keane 8 - Really good defensively but what was that shot/pass
Mee 9 - Top game
Ward 8 - We never gave them a sniff really
Boyd 7 - Boydlike
Barton 9 - Ran midfield with
Hendrick 9 - Considering we were playing as a 4 across midfield we won nearly everything
Defour 5 - Hope it is nothing serious. Didn't look at all comfortable from the start
Barnes 7 - Strong and their defenders know they have been in a game
Gray 8 - Looked really sharp, quick and strong. Just an ounce more composure if I was being hyper critical.

Arfield 8 - His best game in ages. He has been practicing his corners!
Vokes - Not long enough but 7
Tarks - He does a great job of seeing out games... Heading is exceptional.

If Barton isn't worth a 10 tonight then you have to ask if getting a 10 is actually possible? He was outstanding tonight. Nothing more he could have done. When he gets banned he will be a massive blow.

Heaton - 6 - ok for the most part, but a touch lucky with the second half fumble and clumsy for Vardy's plausible penalty appeal. Also persisted with the quick release to Barnes well after it became clear Leicester were wise to it.

Lowton - 7 - excellent defensively, willing in attack and a threat but he will know his final ball was below par.

Ward - 7 - not unlike Lowton but kept busier defensively and less opportunity in attack.

Mee - 7 - dealt well with tricky customers in tricky conditions. Should have scored.

Keane - 8 - as Mee, but used his pace to bail us out a couple of times, and how he didn't win a pen is beyond me.

Barton - 8 - pretty average to start with, then got the measure of the pace and grew to dominate the game.

Hendrick - 8 - wasteful at times in the first half but always involved, grew to his surging best as we turned the screw second half.

Boyd - 6 - threatening, hard working but another whose end product let him down today.

Defour - 5 - never really involved whilst on, a couple of crafty touches aside.

Barnes - 5 - spent too much of the game trying to won free kicks which weren't there rather than playing the game. Clumsy when he did play the game.

Gray - 8 - quiet first half, sensational in the second and his honesty cost him at least one penalty.

Arfield - 8 - the catalyst for our improvement. Brave enough to hold the ball under pressure and give us control. Kept trying to make things happen even not everything came off. And his corners were excellent too.

Vokes - a cameo, but showed more threat than Barnes.

After a tricky opening, we battered Leicester with a fine, pragmatic display let down only by our final ball, which is where of course Mr Brady comes in. Perhaps the winner was a tad fortunate, but by then we were winning 4-1 in the penalties that might have been given competition and 2-0 in the stonewallers not given category.

A good days work.

Claretspice - 5 for Barnes ? Really ?

Heaton 7

Lowton 8
Mee 7
Keane 8
Ward 8

Barton 8
Defour 6
Hendrick 9 (MOM)
Boyd 7

Barnes 7
Gray 9

Vokes 7
Arfield 7

After a bit of a sluggish first 25 minutes when Leicester were probably the better side (without causing us any real problems) I thought we were absolutely brilliant tonight.

Some our football was excellent - Hendrick dominated the midfield with power and skill. Joey was excellent.....and Andre Gray looked sharp, powerful and dangerous throughout the game.

And to top off a wonderful day B@stards have to sell their best player Marshall to Wolves !!

Great time to be a Burnley fan.

heaton - 8 assured handling on a difficult surface - we'll forgive him the one he dropped at vardy's feet. Perhaps fortunate that the ref saw through vardy's trademark cheating.

lowton - 8 excellent tonight, both defensively and going forward, second half especially some of his interplay in the corner was superb

keane - 9 imperious, feel the zeros being added to his price tag

mee - 9 as good as his partner, just in a different way

ward - 8 both full backs right in form right now

boyd - 7 everywhere he needed to be

barton - 9 superb, ran midfield with

hendrick - 9 his injury was from a really nasty piece of work by mahrez, hopefully he's not too damaged because he's made himself integral in our success

defour - 6 looked to be carrying his injury fairly early on

barnes - 7 annoyance factor and didn't get anything from the referee but then i'm not so sure he merited much. an absolute ******* to play against.

gray - 8 two chances well saved by schmeichel, although he should have squared the second for a tap in. as barnes, he was manhandled constantly by the two carthorses at the centre of their defence - testament to his threat.

arfield - 7 knows he's got to work to stay in the team now and certainly did himself no harm tonight

no controversy about the winner for me, if it hit vokes' hand it wasn't intentional but besides that, leicester can't have any complaints given the sheer volume of fouls they got away with. at least two clear pushes on keane - how he's not given the one in the first half makes a mockery of refereeing.

enough about leicester though (surely the worst champions of all time), this was all about burnley in a game we dominated more as it went on. the midfielders dominated and the one trick long ball over the top to vardy ponies were comfortably dealt with by our defence.

a massive win, fully deserved.

Heaton 7 Good handling on a difficult night
Lowton 7 Getting better defensively but needs to improve his deliveries into the box
Keane 7 Usual steady performance
Mee 8 As above bur seemed to win everything in the air, dodgy distribution still lets him down a bit
Ward 8 Solid defensively and good going forward, had doubts at begining of season but he has got better and better
Boyd 5 Run around alot like he does but to easily knocked off the ball and lacks any pace, we need better in this position, hopefully we have now
Barton 9 Joint MOM Immense, doing just what he did last year but at a higher level, please let him only get a fine, he would be a big miss
Hendrick 9 Joint MOM Ran midfield as well as I have seen a Burnley player do for a long time, compliments Barton as a pairing
Defour 5 Hard to judge as seemed off the pace but not sure when he picked up his injury
Arfield 8 Some good some not so good but not a bad sub and helped keep the momentum going
Barnes 8 Gave Morgan and Huth a tough time but got some stick in doing so, but our Ash is a tough cookie and is our best outlet
Gray 8 Played his best premiership game for me, good control, used his pace to good effect and played with a composure he doesn`t normally do

Vokes 7 Only a cameo but what an effect, rarely lets us down.
Tarks Not on long enough

Dyche 9 Might not always agree with his selection but how much do we know. Long may he stay as our man

I think that's the best we've played this season and its rare I've ever seen a better display from a Burnley midfield two. Hendrick is in a tremendous spell of form. He and joey dovetailed supremely

Heaton 7 - safe as usual but rarely tested
Lowton 8 - defensively sound, some great deliveries into the box too
Keane 9 - that challenge on Vardy in the first half was outstanding
Mee 8 - Kept Leicester quiet
Ward 8 - linked up superbly going forward
Boyd 9 - looked like there were two of him at times!
Hendrick 10 (mom) - he's our irish YaYa Toure (or Viera). imperious
Barton 9 - he obviously just fancied the Glasgow derby off his bucket list and then baled because his displays so far have been outstanding
Defour 8 - we missed him when he went off
Barnes 8 - a real nuisance and Morgan struggled with him. got nothing from Dean
Gray 8 - had Huth for breakfast - again not well protected by the officials

Arfield 8 - good game from Scott - lively and penetrating
Vokes 8 - did the job.

Leicester created the square root of eff all other than looking to hit Vardy early. Part of that was due to the way our midfield dominated the ball leaving our defenders an easier task. We really should have scored more we were that dominant. And we played some terrific stuff tonight too. We'd have to go on a dreadful run now to go down. :D :D :D

Leicester are in real trouble and with at least 3 additional fixtures they are going to struggle. I really really hope they go down.

Champions of England? You're having a laugh.

claretspice wrote:Heaton - 6 - ok for the most part, but a touch lucky with the second half fumble and clumsy for Vardy's plausible penalty appeal.

Barnes a FIVE ???? C'mon spice you are usually a good poster but giving Barnes a 5 for that performance makes me think you've been smoking some funky ****

Wow! Awesome!
Possibly one of the best displays for a very long time. We were just relentless, skillful, determined and virtually unstoppable.
When I first saw the lineups I worried that with the Foxes having a 5 man midfield we might get overrun. How wrong I was. With Hendrick and Barton playing in a diamond formation we seemed to pick up every loose ball and dominated the middle of the park. Defour did look out of place on the left TBH but I actually thought we looked stronger when Scotty came on for him. (In all fairness to Defour he may have carried that strain into the game and was a risk that SD accepted)

Heaton - 8 He made a lot of difficult shot stopping look easy on a horrible night.
Lowton - 7 Loses one mark for not getting 5-10 yards further up the pitch before swinging in a cross. I think he is worried about being caught upfield which did happen once and he was found wanting against the pace of Gray which led to his booking.
Keane - 9 Imperious. Reads the game so well.
Mee - 9 Imperious 2. "Sir Benjamin Mee". What a pair of centre backs we have.
Ward - 8 Looks so fit and confident in his own game. Obviously enjoying his football at present.
Boyd - 8 So integral in the way that we play. Harries the opposition to death and breaks up their play before it has even started.
Barton - 9 What a game. As good as I've seen him play. Highly gifted in reading the game and so determined.
Hendrick - 9 MOM. Just shades Joey for MOM. He dominated the middle of the park. So skillful and powerful on the ball and wins so many headers.
Defour - 6 I think he was carrying that knock into the game.
Arfield - 8 Very good game for Scotty. He looked confident on the ball and fits so easily into our system.
Barnes - 8 I love this guy. Never gives the opposition defenders a moments peace  He's got a lot of skill that people don't give him credit for.
Gray - 8 A threat all night and showed pace and power against two of the leagues toughest defenders.

Vokes - 7 Play it again Big Sam. On a great run of scoring crucial goals.

I think if I were to sum up last nights victory in one word it would be "Confidence." The whole team looked confident that they were going to win last night and SD has finally convinced that group of players that they are where they belong, in the Premier League ;)

LONG MAY IT LAST

ps.

Welcome to Ash and Robbie.

Clearly a minority view but i stand by it. I thought Barnes was below his normal standards yesterday. He got drawn into a game of trying to win free kicks rather than genuinely competing to win the ball, and Dean (in comparison with the rest of his performance) rightly gave him nothing.

Secondly, as a team, we dominated the game but my marks seem to be lower across the board because we didn't convert that pressure into as many good chances as we should have. This is the sort if gsme where Barnes, for all his effort can look a bit clumsy I thought Barnes wasted 3 or 4 opportunities to play others in, and I thought the introduction of Vokes was long over due and improved our cutting edge. All about opinions though!
