To be fair to him, he wasn't left with much of a choice...

I'd rather remember him for all the fantastic performances he put in for us on the pitch, of which there were many !!

Will always have fond memories of Steve Davis no matter what happened with coyle. He was a leader, and whenever he put the shirt on he gave his all. And for long periods, was the best performer in a Burnley shirt too.

Totally agree. Hero of mine. Class when we were at our lowest ebb. When Coyle went all he did was take, what seemed at the time, to be a job with better pay and better prospects. If someone leaves your office or factory etc for the same reasons do you still have a go at him 8 years later?

He went for the fools gold and lost more than he gained imo.ive applauded many half time draw heroes back,but doubt he will ever be asked to do it.

He a made a choice on his own personal feelings without taking into account all that Burnley had given and done for him , his choice was for job security and a decent pay rise ( how did that pan out ) rather than uncertainty at t'turf , he cant expect Burnley fans to welcome him with open arms when he was needed he turned his back for money

He made a poor choice at the time, but a lot was happening and many of his colleagues were disappearing.

I wish our fans would look past that now, considering we're 7 years down the line, and all that he did well for us. He was a brilliant player for us, gained us 3 promotions and many great memories.

Great player.

327 games over 3 spells in 14 years, 43 goals from a Central defender. Four selections in PFA " Team of the Year ", 3 promotions as a player and one as a member of the back-room staff..

Could live with him leaving if it wasn't for him punching the air in delight when Bolton scored the winner against us at the Reebok. Can't think of Davis without thinking about how gutting that day was.

You've arguably contradicted yourself there. On the one hand slating him for going, on the other saying that there was a pay rise and job security elsewhere which at the time clearly wasn't there at Burnley.

No doubt someone will be along shortly to tell us he had a 'job for life' at Burnley had he stayed but like every other time the question's been asked since 2010, I'll bet they don't tell us what that job would have been. As I see it his choices in January 2010 boiled down to a definite assistant manager/first team coach role at Bolton under a manager he trusted/liked/respected/delete as applicable, or an unspecified job doing who-knows-what under who-knows-who for who-knows-how-long at Burnley. No blame from me for choosing what looked at the time as a safer bet. Might not have worked out long-term, but as we all know hindsight is always 20/20.

Of course, if anyone knows better and wants to fill us all in on the details of that rancid month, do share. None of this "I know more than you and you'll just have to trust me" crap we've been fed for the last SEVEN YEARS though, it's getting old.

tl,dr; a bloody good player for us when they were damned thin on the ground at times. No biscuit-arsed whining from me about his career-choices.

Don't understand all this loyalty thing we should show to ex players. Steve Davis got paid a decent screw for doing a sport he loved, and we the fans backed him 100%. If the deal had not have suited him he would not have come here in the 1st place, and at the end of the day he was a bog standard centre half, who was fortunate to have been given a coaching role with the club at the end of his playing career.

I had no complaints about him going to Bolton, who could blame him the future at Burnley would have been uncertain. New managers
these days bring in their own men, and Davis could quite easily have been surplus to requirements.

Annoyed at his fist pumping though when Bolton scored. The majority of people would move job for a better salary, no matter how well they have been treated by their present employer and their employer likewise.

Little loyalty in football or life. You do what you think is best for yourself and family. If you don't, I can guarantee you will get screwed over

Don't mind the way he left, he didn't have security at Burnley FC after Coyle, so I understand why he went to Bolton... fair play.

I'll never forgive him for the over-the-top celebrating when they beat us at the Reebok though.

He's not exactly making strides in the world of coaching since he left us, is he?

I doubt he would have had a job here for life either as when Eddie Howe came in he was quite ruthless with staff especially the youth side of things and you would have thought his mate horse face would of had him at Blackburn by now.

Steve Davis was conned by the "bullsh***er" just like the rest of us.
We all make mistakes and Steves was a big one which he has since admitted.
Coyle also sh@t on Davis by not offering him a role at Wigan after the Bolton disaster.

Steve Davis was a class act for us on the pitch and needs to be remembered for that.

Id love him to come back and do the half time draw and we can show that unlike others we have class and can forgive the prodigal son.

He's been back many times already featuring on articles and interviews for Clarets Player. They probably won't give him the honours of the half time draw just yet, though.

I bear no malice toward Davis whatsoever. He was a great player for us.

Good player who showed no loyalty when we needed it. The fist pump following that showed complete disrespect for the club and fans that had supported him.

I was sad to see him go, but I understand why he left for the following reasons:

1. At the time, he was part of a successful team of coaches who he obviously enjoyed working with.
2. There was no guarantee the next manager would want to keep him as a coach. His loyalty could have seen him out of the door a few weeks later.
3. Pay Rise.

I don't hold anything against him & he is still one of my all time favourite Burnley players for what he did for us on the pitch.

Would I have him back a the club in some capacity? not sure.

Times a great healer. From my point of view I was bitterly disappointed with the way Davis left. Who hasn't made a decision that in hindsight the've regretted. Not saying this is the case with Davis, not sure what his thoughts are. I must also say that I was surprised when Steve Davis left us to join Luton Town. No disrespect intended but I'd have thought at the time he's have gone to a more fashionable club. Plenty of speculation that bigger clubs were looking at him. I believe in letting bygones be bygones. Steve Davis was a brilliant player for us, and without his likes we wouldn't have risen from the ashes to where we are today. I'd certainly welcome him back.

Yes, I would, I'd remember the good things, rather than worry about the bits that were not so good.

I certainly wouldn't hold a grudge to my dying day about it, thats for sure.

With hindsight we were probably re invented as a football club when all that negativity arose....we were minnows in a sharks pool financially,we lost that particular battle and won the war i suppose in the end.the likes of bolton and rovers were trying to buy succsess as we all know trying to keep up with the arsenals and chelseas! But for me it was the manner of coyle and davis moving on leaving us floundering that hurt the most. Along withe them punching the air and coyles patronising hand clapping.all forgiven from me...but it hurt that night.

Spot on. His future at Burnley was probably uncertain and he had a firm offer elsewhere.
