If you can agree a version we will do our level best to get that going at Watford. .....starting with about 10 lads on the train down

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Not sure on some of the lyrics but as an idea, I like it.
For it to be a proper club anthem, it needs to be played ahead of every game so that it eventually becomes synonymous with Burnley and the crowd joins in.
That might also help the 170 BPM singers in the crowd to pace themselves a little.

Looks like we might as well 'ave the Pogues version up.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Pogues' dirty old town should be played when the team comes out at home games, classic tune that fits us down to a tee. No one likes us and we don't care. This is a Burnley anthem in the making.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
I have just seen this thread, and I was looking at their fans singing this a couple of weeks ago. It was following watching a YouTube programme about football ownership which they were on.bfccrazy wrote:Nobody can argue that Turf Moor in full voice is a sight to behold.... A lot of people also complain about our limited song book.
A new "anthem" would go down a treat and I saw a video of FC United singing their version of "Dirty Old Town - The Pogues" which reminded me of a version I posted on here ages ago.
I met my love - down at Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream - in the old Longside
And still I'm here - after all these years
Rise Mill Town - Rise Mill Town
******
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf0LKULqnCM
Here are the FC United fans in full voice singing their version.
I thought at the time it would suit Burnley perfectly, but I think using the original words more or less would be fine.
Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Bride rhymes with Longside. As you found your love there it may be appropriate.
Last line: 'The old Mill Town is my bride'
'I met my love down at old Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream in the wide Longside
And I'm still here, after all these years
For the mill town club, she is my bride.
Last line: 'The old Mill Town is my bride'
'I met my love down at old Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream in the wide Longside
And I'm still here, after all these years
For the mill town club, she is my bride.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Sorry to hijack a thread based on 'Dirty Old Town'- one of my favourite chants by the way- but I've felt for ages this great old Lancashire folk song (Old Pendle) deserved it's own chant, so... Here's my attempt!
Turf Moor, old Turf Moor,
Thou standest alone,
On Harry Pott's Way,
And the old Brunshaw Road,
Where's Longside and Bee Hole's
Great Clarets would meet,
And old Burnley legends
Would play at your feet.
Turf Moor, old Turf Moor,
Majestic, sublime,
Where our Claret chants shall ring out for
All time.
Your beauty eternal,
Your banner unfurled,
The loudest and grandest old place in the world
Turf Moor, old Turf Moor,
Thou standest alone,
On Harry Pott's Way,
And the old Brunshaw Road,
Where's Longside and Bee Hole's
Great Clarets would meet,
And old Burnley legends
Would play at your feet.
Turf Moor, old Turf Moor,
Majestic, sublime,
Where our Claret chants shall ring out for
All time.
Your beauty eternal,
Your banner unfurled,
The loudest and grandest old place in the world

Never mind new songs bring back Bananarama!
Nanananana.... Burnley! (If you start practicing now you'll know the words by our next home game
Still think "Hark Now Hear" does not get an airing often enough.

what about simply 'in the milltown' for the last line? or as FCUM do just sing 'dirty old town' at the end

Dreamed a dream on Burnley's ground

Are we meaning original as in original song or as in the original post?
Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
I like this but with just a couple of tweaks.Last line: 'The old Mill Town is my bride'
'I met my love down at old Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream in the wide Longside
And I'm still here, after all these years
For the mill town club, she is my bride.
I met my love by the Turf Moor wall
Dreamed a dream on the old Longside
And I'm still here, after all these years
This Milltown club, she is my bride
Also bot to be The Dubliners ve Rd in for the PA - more passion and a better rhythm than the pogues

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Strangely I was looking at the FC United version on you tube last night and came up with :-
I met my love at old Turf Moor
We dreamed a dream, of the Premier League
And now we're back, where we belong
Dirty old town, Dirty old Town
Second verse based on the FC United version
This is our club, belongs to you and me
We are Burnley, Burnley FC
And now we're back, where we belong
Dirty old town, Dirty old town
I met my love at old Turf Moor
We dreamed a dream, of the Premier League
And now we're back, where we belong
Dirty old town, Dirty old Town
Second verse based on the FC United version
This is our club, belongs to you and me
We are Burnley, Burnley FC
And now we're back, where we belong
Dirty old town, Dirty old town

I met my love, inside of Turf Moor
Dreamed a dream, of how it would be
I kissed the shirt, and knew I was sure

I kissed the shirt, and knew I was sure
Burnley's my town, Burnley's my town

Start messing with words and these efforts never come off.
Stick to the original as much as possible as it's about life, and could be in any old town.

Good on you all, emotionally, with what has happened in the last few weeks, and, excited by what is in my opinion the best song ever, for our town and club. (Same thing). It expresses all the sense of history, passion, never giving up, renewal, community and pride that we all have experienced. Sing it as it is by Ewan MacColl.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
There's already too many versions on here so I don't want to add another. We do need to get a agreed set of words though.
Keep it as close to the original words.
Keep old town in there.
Potentially add a second verse?
Listened to it just now for the first time...
Absolutely love it.

Second verse.
I watched us lift, both league and cup
Watched us fall, though we never gave up.
I stood right here, throughout all those years
(same final line)
Third verse(?)
About the rise from division four to the current state of affairs.
It's like a history lesson for the footballing world!

Can we all agree on
I met my love, down at old Turf Moor,
Dreamed a dream, on the old Longside,
And I'm still here, after all these year,
This is our Turf, it's our Dirty Old Town
Or something along those lines?!
Maybe we should pick five and get a poll going
Love your second verse, Claretmatt.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Cheers Wexford. I started the third but couldn't get it going.
In the original the first two verses are back to back then there's ain instrumental but I suppose that won't matter assuming they play it with no words anyway.
I agree with your last line but need mill town in there, 'dirty mill town?'
Just ' Rise Mill Town' would work, you can easily elongate 'Rise' into two syllables. God knows how many we get out of Bur-Ner-Lee when we need to!

I agree with the version given by Wexford_Claret, let's make it happen for tomorrow at Watford - can't wait!
Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
I think sticking to the original line of "dirty old town" works best. Keeps a nod to the original.
Also don't think it should include references to the Premier League or current players etc. For it to be an anthem the lyrics should fit for all time.

Verse 3 potentially
But then we rose, up from our knees
We dared to dream, won back our pride
And still we're here, after all these years
Dirty Old Town, Rise Mill Town
Point is, we've won everything. Lost everything but then worked hard to get it all back again. And we're very proud of this old mill town.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
I have to say, I usually don't comment on threads about new songs/ how fast songs are sung, etc, but 'Dirty Old Town' is absolutely bang on the money for us - no one likes us we don't care/ won everything, nearly lost it all, slowly clawed our way back - that could describe both our town and club - it just sounds right.
I've always stood up for us, getting into silly arguments sometimes when people who don't know the town slag it off, I just cant help it. All that media stereotypical bull **** just boils my pi ss.
Don't think we need to over complicate the lyrics mind, keep in simple, stick to the original with a few tweaks and get it going in the CFS.
'Dirty Old Town' - my Grandad will have a wry smile on his face looking down on the Turf if this one gets belted out.
UTC NNN.

Re: RISE MILL TOWN - DIRTY OLD TOWN!!
Here's my version and what we need to do.
I met my love down at turf moor
Dreamed a dream in the old Longside
I watched my team go through the leagues
Proud of my town, the old Mill town.
Firstly the op should create a new thread stating a simple yes or no vote to show clear support.
Then an email should be sent to the club with the thread mentioned as a request for them to play the song at an appropriate time (id say after the times like these video just before and as the players emerge). This would help all 4 sides of the ground belt it out as the players emerge from the tunnel and would also slow down the 100mph singers. I do have a 2nd verse but as mentioned for now keep it simple.
