Just to throw this out there...

Given we're playing Chelsea at home, it's safe to write that off. Then the next month consists of games away from home, now, not being negative just being reasonable and judging off our recent away form... We could enter April with the same points as we have now.

I think all those that were sailing the good ship 'we were safe from being dragged back into the mix' are feeling a little less sure now we've hit this reef.

This is going to be a tough month.

Hard to bear today but performance wise we area light years ahead of the west from game. We will do better at places likje boro palace Bournemouth sunderland.

Have faith. Today is not one to set the form precedent.

Playing very well at the moment, the away wins will come but we need 11 players on the pitch. Liked the look of the new players thought Lawton was very good today, Barnes could have got us a point as well.

We are dogshit away from home, whoever it's against. Could quite easily not get an away win all season.

Hull away is going to be one hell of a tough game now, with Chelsea just before probably a write-off even with our outstanding home record.

We must shake this horrible losing habit on the road or relegation will be a real concern come April.

Losing Hendrick and Defour for at least the next three games isn't going to help either.

The way Hull and Swansea are playing and with Sunderland suddenly finding a win then
it's going to be a very tough month and we could be close to in the mix by the beginning of April.

Let's hope we don't lose any more to injury and that Westwood and Brady can plug the gaps.
and we can get a result/s at Hull or Swansea and Sunderland.
Lose those and we'll be in trouble.

What do you mean?

We've come close to points in all our last 4 games away. Given three were against top 3 sides and 1 we had 10 men four the whole game it stands to reason that against struggling sides we are likely to pick up points.

Grow a pair people!!!

It was never a done deal, but I'd have taken being 9 points clear of the bottom 3 at this point in the season, even with a bit of an injury/suspension crunch in midfield. Some of the teams at the bottom are showing some form, but they aren't all good enough to maintain it and I still maintain that 2 more wins is the very maximum we need, and one more might even do us with a few one pointers. We're also producing decent performances - especially at home, where we've shown superiority over two of our relegation rivals in the last 5 weeks, but also away where we've probably performed better than our points return suggests.

We can't get complacent, but we've no reason to be panicking yet. Still a time for cautious optimism.

Given our away form people pointing out well before Christmas than after January pickings would be slim for a while. Particularly now as Hull, Swansea and on today's evidence Sunderland have all found an upswing in form they will be a lot more confident.

We're still in a good position though and the team never gives up.

This.

God its like last season again. Oh we will never get promoted. Brighton and Boro and Hull won't keep slipping and we will turn a corner and start to slip up..

Could be a lot worse, look at Coventry 5 points adrift in League 1
When I was a kid in the 70's there used to a be a joke that 'they should have painted the Titanic Sky Blue" and it would have never 'gone down'

Spirited second half performance Keano and Barton outstanding. I was disappointed by our poor defending for both their goals especially the 1st goal.

If we can match the away form of two years ago, that will do. I'm sure away wins will come. It's just galling when yet another loss comes from what was distinctly one of our winnable away matches.

We played 85 minutes with ten men
Get over the result
We were unfortunate with refereeing decisions

Disappointing not to get something today but we've had a lot of unexpected points this season at home. We're in a very favorable position but can't expect results to go our way every week - as today has shown. Keep working and we'll comfortably get the points needed to survive.

We need to beat Hull and Sunderland away to stay up I reckon and get something from the Middlesborough game.

Swansea's form at home has improved dramatically.

Fancy our chances away to Bournemouth, Eddie's showing his defensive frailties again.

Only other winnable games are probably West Ham at home last game of season, may be an important game that!

Would be a bonus to get a draw or win vs West Brom at home although they are a good team can see a loss there.

Its in our hands but we must start winning away!

A few days ago Big Sam looked to have turned round Palace. Any team conceding 4 to Sunderland can't be that good.

Exactly (mauled that is).

You can't say that we won't pick up any points against six of the bottom seven away (even though we've picked up 13 out of 18 at home) just because we are away and then at the same time say that we won't get anywhere near 2 pts a game at home from the last six because the sides we're playing beat us away.

It's counter logical :? :?

Simply a bad day at the office.
I was expecting us to be around the 16th, 17th, 18th mark with only the odd point and goal difference determining which of these positions we occupied. Never did I imagine that at this stage of the season we would be where we are. To be 9 points above the relegation places after 24 games with only 14 games remaining, I'm absolutely delighted.
I still expect us to finish below mid table, but I'm very optimistic that those 9 points give us a head start on the teams we are competing against for survival. Simply surviving is what this season is all about and we're in a great position to do so, I'd take a guaranteed 17th now if it were offered.

West Brom away (and probably Southampton away but I didn't go there), we have looked like a premier league team this time. Last time we didn't. Of the bottom 6 Boro look a premier team from what I've seen of them. Sunderland have been shocking - so what does that say about Palace today? They'd bought Sunderlands best player too.

3 wins and a couple of draws is enough - or 2 wins and 5 draws. Today merited a draw. Anything from Chelsea is a bonus. Pity they haven't got a Champions League game to think about.

Things could, indeed , be a lot worse.

We could have a different manager !

With Dyche we'll stay up.

Pathetic, why should we write off the Chelsea game? don't bother going if you feel like that. Or do you not want to miss out on being star struck?

Away form concerns me but I would never write a Sean Dyche side off against anybody and form can turn in an instant.. look at Hull Sunderland and Swansea for eg but we are capable of beating all of them in the next 6 weeks or so.

Your a little bit braindead if you think we are not going to get the 8 points in 14 games to stay up! Coming off a superb effort with a man less for the whole match,I think our defence alone will get us the necessary clean sheets in them games to easily do it.I think we are going through a period now we're we are as good as we ever have been certainly In my lifetime. No doubt in my mind we would of took something yesterday,if we kept eleven on.People just love a whinge.Just look at palace yesterday now that is worrying!

We need three wins, we've got a mixed bag of games and we'll do it probably beginning with a shock point or three v Chelski.
Those teams behind us, don't forget, will need six just to match us - they won't all get them.
Any road up, one game at a time and, as has many times before, time for players coming in to make a name for themselves.
Stick to the framework and we'll be fine.

It's the Burnley way to expect the worse. When we were 6 or 7 points clear of third place last year people thought there would be a monumental collapse.

Just human nature I suppose

I'm not. ;)

For some very strange reason some fans appear to be annoyed that other fellow fans with a more positive nature believe that Burnley are good enough to survive.

Very very odd in my opinion that some want to mock the believers and have this "told you so " attitude.

That's the thing. Not all the teams can keep winning.

With the way teams like Boro are playing it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we might have enough points already to avoid finishing in last place at least!

It would be a surprise if, after today, this isnt a week in which our lead over Leicester, Bournemouth and Boro increased, and in which only Hull of the bottom 4 (by just 1 point) closed the gap on us.

Keep chalking them off.

Assuming forty points is safety, we need 11 points from 14 games. We'd have to completely collapse not to get them. The bottom three need 20 points from 14 games - much tougher. That's, say, five wins and five draws from fourteen.

I think the Sunderland result was a very good one. They had a mini run a few weeks ago, then they lost a few. But it's stopped Big Sams momentum dead in his tracks, especially after they got a win away at Bournemouth.

If you take the results of the last fourteen matches of the bottom six and take them forward you get the following for the remaining games:

Sunderland 17 pts would give them 36 at the end of the season
Palace 8 pts = 27
Hull 13 pts = 33
Swansea 16 pts = 37
Boro 11 pts = 32
Leicester 9 pts = 30

This is presuming Man U & Man City win today!

i cannot see anything for us v chelsea either, the clown above who wrote "pathetic" at that comment needs his head examining.

Not so much for that remark, but for the unecessary stuff about not bothering going ! irrelevant and stupid, and out of context.

Anyway, my view is that as we are losing a lot away, at least 4 is the most we have conceded by wba.

Still lots of time to improve away form and beat one or two. As long as the home form continues we will pick up more. Horrendous as yesterday was, it was a close run thing with 10men. We might nick a draw next week, who knows. If we do get beat, we have enough in the locker to get back on track soonish. Not overly worried. UTC.

The second half showing yesterday proves there is little to be concerned about.
More concerning is our ability to shoot ourselves in the foot. With 10 men on the field I'm convinced we would have won yesterday, but **** happens.
There are teams out there with far bigger problems than we have. Palace, Leicester, Boro.
The last thing the players on the pitch need is for fans to panic. Just as the positivity in the crowd egged them on to a win against Leicester, those same negative vibes could undermine all the good work.

Keep The Faith, for all you old Soulies out there.

We didn't appear to do badly against a Watford side buoyed by an away win against Arsenal days before. We've added to the side. We're at home in the fifth round of the FA Cup against non-league opposition. Eleven points from fourteen games should see us safe. There's a great deal to be happy about in all of this - and certainly a more robust springboard to keep us in the Prem than I honestly thought before the season started.

Leicester and Swansea both lost today. We are 9 points clear of relegation and 8 points clear of the bottom six with a superior goal difference.

Based on the 24 games played if the bottom six stay at that average they would end up with 34/35 points. Not likely all 6 will but a chance 3 of them will.

Even another 7/8 points could see us safe so I'm confident we'll stay up.
