mata tackle on 28 minutes today
No different to Hendricks, in fact it was worse.
He gats a yellow, all we want is consistancy.

Still should have been a red card though.

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
Studs showing, out of control. Marginally less serious than Hendrick, however, Mata is lucky to still be on the park with the way the modern game is governed.

They had one earlier too in the Leeds/Hudds game.
Not much contact made but still - doesn't change that the player was out of control etc
No booking, not even a free kick I don't think.

I would agree and even Gary Neville descibed it as "borderline" which says it all. Jamie Carragher thought it an "orange" card which suggests he enjoys his job at SkyCirrus_Minor wrote:Still should have been a red card though.

It's gone. There is no good bleating about it now. Heads up and move on.
The goal is to stay in the Premier League. If we do that by having scored one more goal than 3rd from bottom then so be it.
We can only get stronger.

Unless you stop the game and have a panel of 'experts' make a ruling every time, there will always be a certain amount of inconsistency.
Get over it.
Get over it.

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
RED. Slid in studs leading and caught his ankle.
Hendricks' was a red and he didn't catch him with his studs, it was his instep.
Could have made a massive difference to the outcome today.
Thank god he left him on.

Maybe a red but as we wanted a Man Utd win I would say even a yellow was harsh

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
Hendrick's was a red, no complaints there.
I think Mata's was also a red. He was out of control and his he led with his studs. There's no rule that mitigates the offence based on how high up the leg the other player is caught.
Vardy made a meal of it which may have made the referee's decision easier. No one likes a cheat.

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
Moaninho has instructed the referees not to issue any more red cards to United players this season. Enough is enough.

I thought the discussion was about an incorrect decision not to send off Mata for a clear red card tackle. Not sure what Hendrick's red card has to do with it.

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
I repeat what I have said before - the (professional) referees are part of a closed shop in the FA and are 'encouraged' to ensure that the so-called big teams always win and the pesky interlopers - like Burnley - are seen off and out of their precious Premier League. What is good for the big teams is good for the franchise and is good for the referees. We have to get used to this situation.Lowbankclaret wrote:No different to Hendricks, in fact it was worse.

Wasn't there a former ref who used to post on CM?
Didn't they migrate over with us?

To be fair United, City and Arsenal have all had players sent off against us.Man of Kent wrote:I repeat what I have said before - the (professional) referees are part of a closed shop in the FA and are 'encouraged' to ensure that the so-called big teams always win and the pesky interlopers - like Burnley - are seen off and out of their precious Premier League. Some shocking other decisions against us though.

I 100% agree, reviews would balance this out though.Man of Kent wrote:I repeat what I have said before - the (professional) referees are part of a closed shop in the FA and are 'encouraged' to ensure that the so-called big teams always win and the pesky interlopers - like Burnley - are seen off and out of their precious Premier League. The goal line tech has been a massive success in my humble opinion.

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
Worse than Hendrick's, still only really worth a booking though.
Saying that, the worst 'tackle' I've seem this week was the ndidi one on Hendrick on Tuesday which was a blatant attempt to injure an opponent and didn't even result in a booking.

If we 'get over it' there would be little point in debating anything.HatfieldClaret wrote:Unless you stop the game and have a panel of 'experts' make a ruling every time, there will always be a certain amount of inconsistency.

There was a comparison to made between Hendrick's tackle and Mata's tackle and the OP made it.

MOTD pundits saying ref didn't give him a red because it was Mata and he is a good boy who doesn't foul deliberately. B*ll*cks!!!

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
Just seen the Mata challenge a mata of minutes ago and it should have been a red, ABSOLUTELY no question. You can be certain if that would have BEEN on Mata, 8 times out of 10, it would have been a red OR Mourinho would have been calling it a criminal offence.

I thought he was lucky to stay on, I think if it was a defender or defensive midfielder he would of gone. Refs seem to give the more gifted attacking players more leeway, he's an attacker coming back they can't tackle properly, cue sniggering from the attackers on the panel.

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
It is galling to hear it said that "Mata is not that type of player and that is why he probably got yellow" --what has that got to do with anything?
Jeff Hendrick's dismissal on Saturday was his first in 200+ appearances in professional football, so is he "that type of player"?
It is also annoying to hear a 'pundit' state that it was a cowardly tackle and that he had no intent to get the ball -- if Hendrick was over the top, the accusation made against him is totally out of order.
It was a mistimed tackle and he deserved red, just as Mata's was a mistimed tackle and deserved red whether or not he is "that type of player"

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
For me, straight red. No question about it. He went in out of control with two feet and the force he went in with was enough for Vardy to practically do a front flip! Vardy was lucky to escape without a broken ankle! Hendrick one on Saturday was harsh imo but I can see where the ref was coming from, but the Mata one yesterday was much worse

Re: mata tackle on 28 minutes today
Saw it on MOTD2 last night. Looked a red in real time. Looked a red in slow motion.
If you watch it back, Mata got dumped to the side of the pitch just before the foul, so I think he had a bit of red mist. For the speed he cam in at + studs showing, it was a definite red card all day long.
