Re: young Bradley and Defoe

Post by ClaretTony » Wed May 24, 2017 9:45 pm

I've just read this, posted by Bradley's mum - it is not easy to read.

Sorry for the no updates everyone I've been trying to process information myself. Bradley had a scan on Monday and it showed what we feared. Bradley's cancer is spreading at a very fast rate and he has now got lots of new tumours including in his lungs.

The lump that was causing pain was originally thought to be an abscess has got bigger and they now believe it is a tumour. We are heartbroken this is happening so fast.

Bradley is now receiving palliative care at home. He is going for radiotherapy at the end of this week and next week but this is to control the pain in the hope we get him comfortable.

Lots of people keep asking how long has he got to live? I can't answer this as we don't know, all we know is it's not long.

I can't find any words I can add to that. God bless them.

Hope the lad can at least enjoy his last days without pain. Having experienced this from close range, my heart goes out to the brave lad (as well as to all others who suffer the same fate)
Lots of strength to you all

As a father, you cannot imagine what Bradley and his parents are going through. Hoping that the support they have received from football supporters had helped in the most trying time of their lives. Just hope the poor lad doesn't suffer too much.

Awful news. I can only hope that he has had the most amazing time over the last few months and that he and his family have been helped by all of the support and love shown.

It won't make it any easier but hopefully there are many amazing memories that the family will be able to look back on of their brave little boy.

Latest update from Bradley's mum and it is dreadful news.

Bradley has been having radiotherapy to help control the pain he was having in his leg. This has helped but unfortunately pain has started elsewhere now due to tumours growing all over.

On Thursday after Bradley's last radio he took poorly and his saturation levels were very low (this is the amount of oxygen he is getting into his body). Because we weren't at the RVI where he is normally treated the nurse had to get an ambulance to blue light him there.

Once we were there, Bradley's consultant checked him over and sent him for a chest x-ray. The results were devastating, all of Bradley's tumours have grown really fast. The reason his oxygen levels are low is because there isn't much room in his lungs now. I was told Bradley has now only got weeks to live because of how rapid the cancer is spreading.

Yes I knew this was coming but I thought it was going to be months not weeks. My heart is broken in two, it is too soon for this to happen, it should never be happening to start with. My baby has had to put up with so much over the past 4 years and now he has to suffer a painful death. How is that fair? Why should any parent have to be put through this heartache.

Oh my goodness, that is awful news. My life has just been brought down to earth
with a mighty bump. Why children, of all people, have to suffer such immeasurable
pain, and families have to go through untold heartache is such a travesty

My heart goes out to all his friends and family - good luck little fellah.

I know there was mention on a different thread a few weeks ago, asking why all this attention is on one little boy, when so many others are suffering similarly.

In some respects I understood the sentiment but not only has one little boy and his family been able to have some magical moments before the sadly inevitable happens (surely a great thing). More importantly though, the bravery and courage of Bradley and his family has created huge publicity. Hopefully publicity that increases monies and focus on finding a cure that prevents many others having to face this awful disease in the future.

Bradley and his family are heros in my eyes.

Smile though your heart is aching
Smile even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky
you'll get by.

If you smile through your fear and sorrow
Smile and maybe tomorrow
You'll see the sun come shining through
For you.

Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near

That's the time you must keep on trying
Smile, what's the use of crying.
You'll find that life is still worthwhile-
If you just smile.

Update from his mum yesterday

Bradley has not been well the last few days, he has struggled to keep any food, medicine or fluid down which has resulted in him been in a lot of pain. The nurse has been out today and she has put a pump on that gives him anti sickness and a pump on that gives him morphine to help him feel better. I'm hoping he feels a little better once that's in his system.

Thank you for your continued support

Bradley's mum posted the following last night - I think all we can do now is have them in our thoughts.

Bradley is deteriorating fast, his temperature is going very high, his breathing very fast, his oxygen levels low. He is sleeping most the time apart from odd times awake. We knew this was coming but we are heart broken beyond words. We have been told he could be like this for days, it just depends on him and his body.

It's awful to read. I'm laid up with a pot on feeling sorry for myself (and wondering how the hell I can carry a coffee back to the couch). Meanwhile Bradley's life is slowly and painfully ebbing away, in front of his family. It doesn't half put things into perspective.

Even knowing it won't happen, every time I open this thread or read something on line, i have a hope that something miraculous might have happened.

There are some terribly unfair and cruel things in life.

I'm a parent to similar aged boys and can't comprehend what the parents must be going through watching their boy suffer like that. The feeling of helplessness must be overwhelming knowing there's nothing they can do.

The world is a very cruel place

I couldn't agree more with dpinsussex. Last week the family had a short holiday in Scarborough which he enjoyed. I think they knew it wasn't far away then which is why they were so keen to get a few days away together. It is clear now that he has moved into the final part of his life and all we can do is wish it to be as pain free as possible.

I can't even imagine what his mum, dad and brother must be going through right now but they will know this is the time when they are saying goodbye.

I've been absolutely astounded and humbled at just how bravely Bradley and his family have dealt with this terrible ordeal.
Nobody, let alone a child as young as him should have to ever go through it and it really brings home the notion that this world is ruthlessly cruel at times, but it has also shown how generous we can all be, and the unity that football and the country as a whole really can show in the face of adversity.
I'm so glad he's been able to have some wonderful experiences and leave his family with some truly wonderful memories, and enormous credit has to go to people like Jermain Defoe and all the other footballers and football clubs who've done their bit to make Bradley's short life so special.

Just echoing what has been said earlier, the fight he has shown has been incredible. His family have shown immense courage in tackling this the way they have and young Bradley has experienced some wonderful things in his short life. Many members of the football community, fans, players, clubs etc. have all gone above and beyond to make his days special, none more so than Jermain Defoe. He has had some negative publicity in his career, but he has gone up massively in my estimations with the care and friendship he has shown to Bradley,

Hoping now that Bradley doesn't suffer too much and, as there is only the inevitable outcome to this, that the pain and suffering has a swift end.

Today's updated from his auntie

Update on brad is....he is very weak and finding breathing difficult but he is fighting it. He insisted on having a party and he invited his cousins and girlfriend poppy yesterday. They all laid on the bed having cuddles I think it was his way of saying his good byes. Late last night his best friend jermain come to visit him and it was so heart warming seeing how Bradley reacted. He was so happy and laid for ages getting cuddles. Bradley was really relaxed with him.

Thank you again for your support, although we are getting a lot of messages and comments, we are going to get through them all eventually, as your words do really mean a lot to us all x x

Today's update

Bradley is still fighting to stay with us. Nobody knows where he is getting the strength from or how he is doing it. He has been very close to going with the angels but he pulls himself out of it. It is a hard time for us waiting and watching for our baby to take his last breath he started with fighting and he is ending with fighting
