Watched Lady in the van for the second time last night and even better then the 1st time.

Surprising what we don't remember or forgotten from the first viewing.

I've just finished watching Viceroy's House.

Love story set during the partition of India and Pakistan.
I've read about bits of the partition, but seeing it on film makes you realise how badly it was handled by Britain and makes me feel ashamed of what we did.

Watched Wild on Netflix last night...2014 film starring Reece Witherspoon in a true story enactment about a woman who hiked over 1,000 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail up the Western side of the USA to get past a bad episode in her life. Quietly brilliant in the way it put you in her shoes I thought and some stunning scenery. It has stayed with me all day today. Top soundtrack too.
Also I will give a hoot to Gone Baby Gone....stars Casey Affleck, who seems to be in vogue due to Manchester By The Sea, and is an absolute belter with an ending that really gets you thinking and discussing the rights and wrongs.

watched Hunt For The Wilderpeople t'other night. Brilliant Kiwi film. Sam Neill and his (reluctantly) adopted/fostered son go bush. Sweet, funny, action adventure, with some great performances - most enjoyable

I caught a bit of the Daniel Radcliffe film based on the true story of an FBI agent who went undercover in Neo Nazi gangs in the USA.

That looks quite good.

KONG - Skull Island.

Shades of Apocalypse Now mixed with big monsters fighting and a crazy Samuel L Jackson armed to the teeth.

Easy to watch, got some good one liners.

I heard that the same studio owns the rights to Kong and Godzilla so I'd expect to see that film being made at some point.

Bridge of Spies is a 2015 historical drama legal thriller film about the Based on the 1960 U-2 incident during the Cold War, the film tells the story of lawyer James B. Donovan, who is entrusted with negotiating the release of Francis Gary Powers—a pilot whose U-2 spy plane was shot down over the Soviet Union—in exchange for Rudolf Abel, a captive and convicted Soviet KGB spy held under the custody of the United States, whom he represented at trial. The name of the film refers to the Glienicke Bridge, which connects Potsdam with Berlin, where the spy exchange took place. The film was an international co-production of the United States and Germany.

A terrific account of the U-2 spy plane incident in the early 60s, and despite the seriousness of the story there was also a splattering of comedy throughout the film.

Son-in-Law tipped me The Young Offenders last night. He's normally a decent reference.
Two Cork lads trying to find one of the bales of Coke that washed up on the West of Ireland a few years back.

Just watched Lion. Highly recommended. Opening part of the film has no english at all but that makes it even better.

The story is amazing, sad, emotional, bittersweet etc. Acting by the young kids at the start fantastic.

Wont spoil it. But watch it.

I've just watched Free Fire.

About a gun deal that goes wrong.

Brilliantly made, plenty of laughs, not a serious film at all and well worth a watch.

Moonlight is absolutely incredible.

*SPOILERS* *SPOILERS* *SPOILERS*

I've never, NEVER, watched a film (or TV show) that genuinely made feel grief for a character dying in the way Moonlight did. The hyper-subtle way Juan's death is revealed between acts 1 and 2 will be (poorly) imitated for decades. I couldn't get over that reveal for ten minutes. The film is a masterpiece.

Just watched the pianist. Good film. Seems a little extreme in parts but war is i guess. Would recommend it for anyone who likes that sort of film.

Good acting. Cant use the word good story as the story isnt good its horrific but you get the drift. Bit gruesome at times.

Really makes you see how horrific war is. Takes you right to ww2 and even to syria etc today

Bit too deep for a sunday.

Just been some nice or interesting films on TV:

The Importance of Being Earnest - a classic comedy of manners, very wordy.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0044744/?ref_=nv_sr_1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Look at the quotes!

Populaire - a French romantic comedy about a typing competition.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2070776/?ref_=nv_sr_1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The Sightseers - dark dry comedic about a couple of oddities killing people for no real reason.

Its not the film itself that I found harrowing. Just the reality that hit afterwards that everything you saw happened and more.

It was more today that it was on my mind than immediately after the film finished.

Watched Manchester By The Sea last night, seriously disappointing.

It was watchable without feeling bored but was depressing.

Hacksaw ridge, absolutely incredible story of bravery beyond comprehension but only the fact it was true made it any good

Sounds like you understood Manchester by the Sea quite well then, considering it isn't meant to be a happy sort of film with a wishy washy ending.

Hacksaw ridge - if it wasn't true are you saying you wouldn't have enjoyed it as much?

I get that the film was supposed to be a representation of stuff life can throw at you so wasn't wanting any sort of cheesy ending. Maybe I wasn't in the best frame of mind to appreciate how well the film was made.

I would say hacksaw ridge was a poor film only carried by the true story

Manchester by the Sea is almost perfect. I was gushing about Moonlight earlier in the thread; it's on the same level, IMO. Hacksaw ridge is decent but I'll forget about it long before I forget Moonlight and MbtS.
