All of Westwood Hendrick Marney Defour in fact throw in Arfield Jones and Tarks if you want, would look good in midfield playing with Mr Joesph Barton.. nuff said

Re: Westwood
Apart from the ridiculously poor cross field pass that let them counter, he was ok.

Re: Westwood
I understand you are delighted with the result. Some players played better than others. Westwood was one of the others today. Not a bad player, he did ok, but I'm not getting carried away with sentiment, after a game we could've and possibly should've won.claretblue wrote:'...he was ok...'

You expect midfielders to take time to settle, Hendrick is just coming good.

A lot of the best teams have players that get the ball and give it to others to do the forward play with.joey13 wrote:Pretty much as my villa supporting friend said , he gets the ball and gives it .
Or is he giving it to opposition players?
If that's the case could someone tell him to stop doing that

Re: Westwood
Decent debut and didn't look out of place. Considering almost every player that I can think of has improved under Dyche today's showing was positive.
Re: Westwood
SD has seen something in him and so he will turn out a good player. Like Lowton has. Tough for him and Brady today coming in against the leagues best team.

Thought he was very good today. Always trying to play Gray in when possible and fantastic positional sense from a defensive viewpoint - made many crucial clearances.

Re: Westwood
In retrospect a great signing that went through quickly. Think he will be someone that does the dirty work, Saw Barton having a word with him pre kick-off. It seemed to work

Didier Dechamps , the water carrier , Westwood was outstanding today. He will do the simple things efficiently, which at premer league level isn't easy.Sidney1st wrote:A lot of the best teams have players that get the ball and give it to others to do the forward play with.

Re: Westwood
A tough game to say the least in which to make your debut. Let's not forget Westwood and Brady are getting used to a completely different regime to the ones they have been working with this season. Chris Coleman got it right on his SKY punditry that it's the step up in work on non matchdays that they will be trying to catch up with, because Sean Dyche wants 100% every day of the week.
They will settle in but maybe we will see the best after they have had the SD preseason..

Re: Westwood
Don't know how anyone could deny every member of the team was excellent today. Some people only see sweeping passes , last ditch tackles and goals as having a good game. A player like Westwood will never appeal to them. To me a good holding midfielder you hardly notice during the game but the opposition find them an immovable object.... which means our holding players were different class today.

Re: Westwood
Back to the Premier League from the championship
First full debut for Burnley and at home.
And against the runaway Premier League leaders.
I'll say he did alright, well done Ashley.

Looks like he's going to be an opinion divider.
I personally thought it was an excellent debut against a very good team, possibly my motm today.

Re: Westwood
i thought he was great defensively.
He also tried a few attacking passes which were excellent.
I would give him a month to get his fitness up, he could be a very astute signing

Would be absurd to expect to him to come straight in and not put a foot wrong.
A good performance, and will get better under SD.

It takes time to settle into a new team, just look at Hendrick, so for a first start that was excellent.

Re: Westwood
Didn't do a great deal for me. Talks of MOM are just ludicrous.
Looked a good bit off the pace and was never really in the game. He did drop into the holes in the middle of the park well made a couple of good forward passes, but apart from that was a non entity.
Need more from a player than just filling the holes,
I'd be very disappointed if he was picked infront of Hendrick and Defour.
I'd agree that he is an upgrade on Jones not that that's saying much as Jones is donk.
There's obviously some people who are super sensitive of players getting criticised. I don't think for one minute Westwoods performance today has been criticised by anyone, merely stated that he was distinctly average/anonymous.
Personally think we've paid a lot of money for a back up player who just doesn't have the tools. Time will tell and I'm sure some people will constantly try to spin his performances in the same fashion as Jones in an attempt to prove their point.

Re: Westwood
Aside from his one moment of madness I would be surprised if he lost the ball.
He took a yellow card that he needed to take - something we are often guilty of not doing, and he constantly retained the ball. Went backwards a lot - in a good way meaning we didnt lose it. Also looked up and tried to play Gray and Barnes in a lot
Was very good today. And nowhere near used to our team and system.

For a young lad who couldn't get a game in a poor championship team to come into midfield against the champions to be I think he was excellent. The way he just slotted in like he had been here all season was great to see.
Re: Westwood
Toughest challenge for a Home debut and did exceptionally well. Well done lad!
