And I'll bet Palace fans think their 4-0 defeat to Sunderland at home was far worse, which it was!CrosspoolClarets wrote:I get the bit about it being a great achievement, but one of the greatest in modern football?
We have signed 3 midfielders for about £30m since promotion, we have a defender worth about the same and a keeper in the England squad. Whereas the likes of Sunderland would love to spend what we have on players. I know we have wage limits, but if our players are better than theirs the wages don't matter. It will be a very good achievement, and I'd take it over winning a single cup game, but yesterday tarnishes it badly.
I'll love it if we stay up because we will have done something special, but hardly unprecedented, unlike the defeat yesterday, which was unprecedented (apart from by ourselves). I don't think Dyche quite realises how much his name will be written into history in the wrong way, to add to his successes with us - we've been talking about that Wimbledon result for 40 years and it will be likewise with this one. The galling thing is that it would have been probably avoided if we hadn't rested players despite 13 days between league games. Come Hull though, it'll be time to move on.

Are you serious, of course it tarnishes our season.Spijed wrote:In what way?
To what degree it embarrasses any individual is entirely up to them, but our season in review DVD will have this annoying failure in it, regardless of what we go on to do in the rest of the season.
BTW, I'm not particularly embarrassed, but very disappointed. I just hope this result hasn't adversely affected morale.

That's for palace to worry about or be embarrassed about. Sunderland are a PL club Lincoln aren't. If the analogy translates to a goal per tier down I guess it's a similar comparison.Spijed wrote:And I'll bet Palace fans think their 4-0 defeat to Sunderland at home was far worse, which it was!

It was the worst result in 103 years of the FA Cup.
So hands up who doesn't think that is total embarrassment ?

Lincoln are top of the Vanarama and many teams who get promoted from that league do very well in Div 3 in their first season or two....there is little between Lincoln and most Div 3 teams.
Then there is Burnley - we have just been promoted from Championship and yesterday fielded a team that had spent the vast majority of its individual players careers in the Championship - and that includes the likes of Keane and Heaton.
Lincoln beat a team that in total cost less than £15m - Bradford beat Chelsea a couple of years ago and whilst I cannot be bothered to look how much they cost it's a Chelsea team that won the premier league that year and probably cost 10 times as much as our team yesterday (at least)
Milwall just beat the current champions
Just because it's the first non league team to reach the quarter final in 103 years does not mean it's the biggest shock in 103 years - it is not. There have been plenty more bigger shocks.
Now can everybody calm the f-uck down !

Embarrassment no. We should be proud that we're such a big scalp and that it was such a big shock.
Everyone has a bad day now and then and well done Lincoln.

As long as it doesn't derail our great league season, i couldn't care less to be honest. Was disappointed and a little bit angry on Saturday, but now am pleased for Lincoln and couldn't give two hoots about it.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
lets hope that when we play premier teams we can perform better as this season knocked out of two cups by lower league clubs Accrington in August and now Lincoln. So the old adage of concentrate on the league now is the most important thing. would love to go to Wembly to win a cup but would rather become an established Premier league team and then look to winning a cup.

Exactly, not arsed at all. We've had so many amazing moments over the last few years, as soon as somebody else has one at our expense there's all this whining and crying.Foshiznik wrote:As long as it doesn't derail our great league season, i couldn't care less to be honest. Some of us turned into the classic arrogant Premier League fans in the build up and then carried it on with the 'how dare we lose' entitled sobbing afterwards. Looking forward to Hull on Saturday.

On the bright side at least the media now consider us to be 'giants' (until we play Liverpool of course when we'll revert to being 'plucky little Burnley' if we manage to get something from the game)

If anyone should be embarrassed it's our players and management.
I hope they are all sitting in the River Calder in their underpants this morning, that'll teach them.

To be honest, I've had far far worse days supporting Burnley! Far worse!!
All the best Lincoln, the realism actually is the next 4 away games is far more important still to get what we can out out them!

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
Embarrassing result? Yes. Massively disappointing? Yes. 10 points clear of the bottom, getting serious in the cup with an outside chance. When was our last cup final? Not in my lifetime. Chances like this don't come around very often in the modern era for a club our our size. Disappointed it wasn't a full strength team to give us the best chance of progressing. What's the point in football if you don't try and win anything? Barton antics? Embarrassing. We move on and support the team who hopefully will continue to support the manager. Great season, big blot on it now however for me. Fair play to Lincoln, as others have said they out Burnley'd us, and I think Dyche took too long to react with his subs. For all the praise of a week ago we, Dyche and the team can't dismiss the criticism. We move on.
Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
Big blot on our season, give over.
Tactics used by Lincoln and a poor performance by us resulted in a scrappy and disjointed game nothing more.

I shall be at Hull on Saturday this game forgotten.A much more important game.
I find all this moaning about a game which I consider of no importance a bit over the top.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
The idea it's 'embarrassing' or dread it being referred to for years is only true if you have tied up your own self-worth too closely with a football team you've no control over.
I swapped a bit of 'bants' via text on Saturday evening and that's about it. Stop wallowing you big babies and get ready for the next one.

Re: TOTAL EMBARRASMENT
The day that I feel embarrassed because of a football result will be a very long time coming and it's 70+ years and counting up to press!
The past is gone and can't be changed -- unless it is a Brexit vote -- as some would have you believe. Enjoy today and hope that you see tomorrow, but don't worry about it because you have no control.

Obviously not football results but it does get you wondering.

I've had people laughing all day at work and I've just told them we're contributing to keeping the romance of the cup alive.
If you're struggling to deal with it and it's consuming you, I'd suggest you're a bit of a sad sack and need to quickly build a bridge to get over it.

Bordeaux --how can you change the past --it has happened. You may make a different decision but it does not change the past. Hillsborough has been debated for years and blame has been apportioned differently to what it was originally, however, people are still dead because it is in the past and this can't be changed --no matter how much YOU believe it can.Bordeauxclaret wrote:Imagine the state of the world if everyone believed things can't be changed.

You can't change the Brexit vote then can you. It's in the past
I'm just going off on a tangent, totally agree about the game anyway although some of the potential repercussions being put forward are amusing.

There are plenty of people around who think that it can be changed, however, that is their problem --not mine.
Life goes on and all is fair in politics and football! Reactions are often totally OTT --they give you a laugh.

I didn't say I was embarrassed, it's the the result that is embarrassing. And Barton's antics. As has been said, it's football, who cares. But as I feel pride in our league season so far and the club in general, Saturday was crap. As it's now Monday, I'm over it. Bring on Hull!
