New Blackburn manager. Not sure what to make of that to be honest.

Me neither. Always seems capable but after a decent start always seems to degenerate into a bit of a shambles.... he's picked yet another hiding to nothing with this one.

Just to put the record straight -- Tony Mowbray is a Yorkshireman.basil6345789 wrote:Big, stupid, long-nosed Geordie who was a good player but can't manage. Odds on to complete the task. TEE HEE.
He is used to managing a club in crisis having taken over at Middlesbrough when they were 22nd in the Championship and Coventry when they were odds on for relegation. As someone pointed out in another post, he does tend to start well and then tail off, however, it will be interesting to see whether or not he can keep Blackburn up.

The trouble is no matter how bad Tony Mowbray is at managing Blackburn, he won't be as bad as Coyle.

My Rovers friend spends most of his days crying at the moment I've had to limit the match day abuse to just a couple of texts after his wife was getting concerned

There is a strong smell of desperation coming off this man.
What manager worth is salt would take this job?

I see that David Dunn has been appointed first team coach. Surely they missed the word driver off the end of his job title !

I'm a bit sad about this (genuinely). I think Tony Mowbray always comes across as a really decent bloke, and I believe he's done a lot to help Parky, keeping him engaged watching football videos to assess talent.
That said, I sincerely hope he takes them down and gets a decent pay-off.

Re: Tony Mowbray
He's apparently been brilliant with Gary Parkinson who he played with at Middlesbrough but I have to say I wasn't disheartened when I heard his name mentioned yesterday and certainly not when he got the job this morning. Even at Middlesbrough, where he was loved by fans and backed financially, he didn't prove to be a success.Guich wrote:I'm a bit sad about this (genuinely). Coventry City are still long odds-on for relegation after Mowbray was sacked at the end of September 2016 and replaced by Russell Slade.

Re: Tony Mowbray
Big three days for Rovers
1. Bristol City playing Fulham at home tonight
2. Away to Burton on Friday
A few days into his managerial role at Blackburn could see a six point gap to the team fourth from bottom, that would not be the easiest to get out of for any manager nevermind one who's recent record is as poor as his.

Re: Tony Mowbray
Would have preferred Dunn as manager.
Mowbray could save them, in the short term. They aren't/shouldn't be odds on relegation fodder really.
As others say above, he does seem to nosedive after a while.
But with the record they've had over the last few years, what half decent manager would want to go there?

Re: Tony Mowbray
Comes across as a straightforward and decent bloke. Met him at Ljubljana airport a few years ago when he was bringing Boro back from their pre-season tour. Was in total control of the players who, apart from Rhys Williams, were impeccably behaved on a grotty Ryanair flight.

Re: Tony Mowbray
When he went to Coventry in March 2015 they were in 20th place and his remit was to keep them up. He did this by winning 5, drawing 4 and losing 4 of their remaining games and they finished in 17th place.bob-the-scutter wrote:And he did brilliant at Cov!
2015/16 he guided them to 8th place with 19 wins, 12 draws and 15 defeats and a goal difference of +18.
Over the 59 games played he had a 40% win ratio which is reasonable.
It was only this season that he started of with 0 wins, 6 draws and 4 defeats which saw them bottom of the table and he departed.

Always liked him. A very honest player and comes across as a sound bloke. They could have done a lot worse.

Re: Tony Mowbray
I used to rate Mowbray but he seems to have been less effective of late. But probably not a bad appointment for them really. He won't have much time to get to know his squad so could be playing catch up in a difficult run in that is absolutely critical for their club.

All he needs to do is stop us conceding. That forward line will always score goals.Cirrus_Minor wrote:I used to rate Mowbray but he seems to have been less effective of late. Re: Tony Mowbray
for what it's worth I expect you to get out of it as your front 2 cause problems, I'm hoping they both get sent off for fighting each other and get 14 game bans

I'm always optimistic about a new manager though, I even clinged to a far fetched belief that coyle could relive his Burnley form. It lasted one game..
