Heaton 6

Lowton 7 (defensively 8/offensively 6)
Keane 7 (handball 5/goal 9)
Mee 7
Ward 7 MOM (not at his best but never looks in trouble)

Boyd 6 (unusually sedentary)
Barton 7 (nice through balls in the 1st half especially)
Westwood 7 (liked him more today)
Brady 5 (certainly a good `out` but need more `final ball`

Gray 6
Barnes 6

A more than deserved point.

Heaton 6 (kicking has gone a bit more wayward)
Lowton 7 (poor crossing, great defensively)
Mee 7 (did what he does)
Keane 7 (bad positioning for penalty and great for his goal)
Ward 8 (Great defensively play and plays a very good out ball).
Brady 5 (Lacked the quality on the ball a slide pass/cross away from clear cut chances, looks a player also you could hear Dyche barking at him to track back, He will learn.)
Barton 6 (think he was bullied a tad by there massive central midfielder but stuck top the task)
Westwood 7 (Extra one for a great through ball, simplistic display of graft).
Boyd 6 (Tracked as he does but offer nothing going forward.)
Gray 7 (Ran and ran against 2 decent central defenders, first touch on Westwood ball amazing did ok).
Barnes 6 (Needed to play today though Maguire had him in his pocket).

Heaton 6 Should have done better with the pen, but only because he guessed correctly. Nothing else to do
Lowton 8 MOM. Great at the back, a bit wasteful with his crosses, but his job is to defend and he did that very well.
Keane 7 Solid enough
Mee 7 As above
Ward 7 as above
Boyd 7 - Much improved, a few lapses in concentration/decision making
Barton 7
Westwood 7
Brady 6 final ball seemed wasted time after time. Nearly got in after Gray's lay off. Assist from the corner?
Barnes 4 Foul after foul. Whinged after every decision, which were 99% always right. Definite red which has been a long time coming and fully deserved.
Gray 7 Some good touches, got in himself, also played in Brady. Needs a goal soon though.

On a side note, once again that Maguire was excellent at the back for them. Has he had a bad game against us?
I'd snap him up if Hull go down. MOM for me today.

Heaton - 6 - Should probably have saved the penalty
Lowton - 8 (MOM) - Thought he was terrific today, aside from a couple of poor crosses
Keane - 7 - Unlucky with the hand ball but made up for it with aplomb
Mee - 7 - Relatively untroubled, good first half block
Ward - 7 - Hasn't really gelled with Brady yet but steady performance
Boyd - 7 - Some good attacking contributions mixed with the usual graft
Barton - 7 - Steady
Westwood - Also steady
Brady - 6 - Dead ball deliveries were generally pretty good but almost everything else wasn't. Looks like he'll take some time to settle which is understandable
Gray - 6 - Looked a threat when he was on the same wavelength as the midfield but unfortunately this wasn't often enough
Barnes - 5 - Bad day at the office. Persistent fouls, caught offside too often and a totally unnecessary sending off put us under pressure at the end when we would have been comfortable.

Well earned point and it's shame that a couple of our more influential players, such as Defour, Hendrick & JBG, were unavailable against a side that were certainly there for the taking. Very good result considering the players we were unable to field.

Heaton - 5 - fluffed a relatively straightforward penalty save, caught in no mans land in the first half and a bit unconvincing on a couple of crosses. So given how relatively little he had to do, not convincing.

Lowton - 6 - stood up well to a tough examination from Grosicki, but going forwards his crossing was short of his usual standards.

Ward - 6 - too often left with too little support, but just about got by.

Keane - 8 - presuming he was fouled for the pen, as he says, pretty much flawless. Took his goal well and did the day job with his usual aplomb.

Mee - 8 - he and Keane were exposed more than theyd have liked, but dealt with it well.

Barton - 8 - probably burnley's most effective player on the day, managed a tough match effectively.

Westwood - 6 - decent first half but as the game went on and particularly after a cheap booking, less effective as he tended to sit off Hull's midfielders rather than pressing them.

Boyd - 7 - did a decent job on Robertson, and offered plenty in attack in the first half, but less effective after the break.

Brady - 5 - a couple of good crosses, but his final ball was wanting on other occasions, and defensively he was all over the place at times. Needs to adapt to the demands we place on our wide players fast because too many crosses came in from our left because he didn't do his job.

Barnes - 5 - his performance probably warranted a 6, but a sending off that appears to be a result of a first yellow card for dissent is going to get him a rollocking from Dyche. Generally a mixed bag but he's not getting the free kicks he was 6 weeks ago and the frustration is affecting his performances.

Gray - 7 - not everything came off, but gave the Hull back line a real test and he was integral to most of our best chances. Looked to be unlucky when went through one v one.

Subs not on long enough.

Good point, and important to get off to a good start to the run of 4 away games. We certainly merited the point, but with a bit more intensity at times it could easily have been more because Hull are no great shakes. Their strength is a big, powerful midfield, but the cumbersome nature of those two was exposed in the first half when we pressed them, but less so after the break when they had more time and space to spread the play, and a combination of that plus a lack of understanding from Brady of what we require of him defensively made it a tough second half for our full backs in particular.

But a good point, another day on which we've kept the bottom 3 at arms length - keep chalking em off.

Heaton - 7 safe handling in the swirling wind, one shot to save and he nearly did

Lowton - 7 a bit of wayward crossing but defensively first class

Keane - 8 superb finish for the goal and he deserved that after the joke of their penalty. From our end it clearly hit his hand but he was so blatantly pushed which put his hand where it was. Initially thought the ref had given the correct decision which was a free kick to us.

Mee - 8 sound

Ward - 7 also sound

Boyd - 6 solid, nowt special

Barton - 7 way above last week, drove us on when we went behind

Westwood - 7 a silly booking but otherwise he was very good today, tidy and kept the ball moving and put a lovely lob over the top for gray

Brady - 5 still finding his feet with us, should have done better with his first half chance and with a few crossing opportunities but it'll come

Barnes - 4 twonk. Gives away far too many obvious fouls and it was no surprise to see him sent off. Wrong substitution.

Gray - 6 unlucky not to score and his decision making was a bit off again but he was the player keeping us playing higher up the pitch and the carthorse at the centre of Hull defence was struggling to keep him quiet. Should have stayed on.

A very good point here that keeps the distance but it should really have been 3. Taking gray off meant we stopped putting pressure on hull's number 5 who was both junk and injured. We had the momentum going into the closing stages but surrendered it and then Barnes madness nearly compounded it.

Good performance on the whole though, we were very much the better side, just need to be more clinical.

I think that's harsh on Boyd MD Wat. I thought he did an excellent job on Robertson and it was telling that we conceded far less crosses from our right than we did from our left.

Boyd played a couple of cracking balls as well, including a perfectly weighted through ball in the first half to an offside Barnes (or Gray, can't remember).

Spice - I always enjoy your assessments but Gray "gave the Hull back line a real rest", don't you mean test?

Would like to see the numbers on that. Thought Robertson was their best player and him and Grosicki got plenty in from their side.

Heaton - 7 - Unlucky with Pen, had nothing else to do really, was lucky Grosicki's free kick was slightly off target.
Lowton - 7 Some poor crosses/final balls but finally getting forward with confidence and tracking back well.
Keane - 8 - Silly handball but amazing chest and finish from corner, Gray needs to watch that video and get some tips off him in training
Mee - 7 - No mistakes and solid (finally)
Ward - 7 - Solid left back performance
Boyd - 7 - Chose the wrong pass a few times but does add workrate to the midfield
Barton - 6 - Little bit anonymous today
Westwood 6- One ball over top which was decent otherwise same as Barton
Brady - 6 - Set pieces were great, general play was not, through balls were not on the money today, will get better.
Gray - 5 - Gray has been poor for a while now, really should know how to play the offside rule by now, unlucky with a few shots though.
Barnes - 5 - Really needs to rein in his constant fouling and concentrate on actually hitting the target with shots and playing himself onside.

Vokes 5 Too slow for this league, didn't win anything in the air

Tarkowski 7 - Settled midfield and added grit for westwood, missed a killer through ball when the break was on when he passed to Boyd (unlucky that, if he had looked left there was a massive hole in their midfield.

Great point, into that! Hope for the same level against Swansea!

Heaton 7
Lowton 9
Keane 8
Mee 8
Ward 7
Barton 8
Westwood 7
Brady 6
Boyd 7
Barnes 6
Gray 5

Arfield 5

Grosicki was on a mission to prove a point but Lowton handled him immaculately. That the unbelievably good Robertson was behind him, on a mission for a different reason, meant that Lowton (and to a lesser extent Boyd) did really well to limit their chances to a couple. By heck, that kid is good (not Grosicki, he was fairly ordinary, the lad behind him).

The stats suggest Hull dominated but I felt we were always in control (though I felt we were happy with a point for the most part). Hull had a first half flurry without being threatening. Second half we were dominant then fell behind against the run of play. We seemed to score at will afterwards. We now have 2 points this season after being behind (2 in 2) so the stats appear to be moving in our favour. A 45-50 point finish appears likely. One things for sure, we ain't going down.

Heaton - 6 uncharacteristically shaky at times
Lowton - 8 if only he could cross the ball. Defensively excellent
Ward - 8 quality again, seems to read the game a step ahead of everyone else
Keane - 8 solid and a great chest and finish
Mee - 8 Statutory 8 out of ten performance
Westwood - 7 decent first half seemed to tire
Barton - 7 good performance
Boyd - 7 thought he played pretty well
Brady - 6 extra mark for the assist but wasted several good crossing opportunities
Barnes - 6 Busy but needless two bookings
Gray - 7 always looked a threat

Heaton - 6 not at his best today
Lowton - 8 good positions going forward, defensively he often ended up competing in the air against the player that Keane should have been marking
Ward - 8 rock solid
Keane - 6 great goal but for the second game a bit dodgy defensively
Mee - 7 usual brick wall
Westwood - 7 very neat on the ball and some good challenges.
Barton - 7 thought he was uncharacteristically lightweight at times
Boyd - 7 did what he does very well
Brady - 6 won and took the corner that got the point otherwise he had the wrong boots on
Barnes - 6 daft bugger
Gray - 7 looked lively but needs a goal

Heaton 6
Lowton 7
Keane 7
Mee 7
Ward 6
Boyd 6
Barton 7 - My MOM. Reads the game so well.
Westwood 7 - Gives us back what Jones offered but with a bit more variance in his play. Looks an astute signing.
Brady 5 - Ball retention has been poor for 2 games now but he's made a massive contribution to 2 very good points. Doesn't hide another poor display though.
Barnes 5 - Loose arm he always leaves hanging out (deliberately) gives referees the chance to card him every time he does it. Law of averages makes such red cards inevitable occurrences. Move on.
Gray 5 - Lacks composure in various situations and can't stay onside. That said he's still our main threat and needs to keep his head up - he's vital for the run in.

6 is defined as average and that was an average performance all round. We were solid enough but severely lacking in the required quality up top. Marks fully reflect this. Gudmundsson and/or Defour could have been the difference for us in this kind of game.

By the criteria set out at the top of the player rating thread, 7 is 'good' and 8 indicates 'very good'. We drew 1.1 with Hull and in all honesty didn't deserve anything more. Our lack of quality with finishing or final balls was significantly below average.

Each to their own, but by that logic I think it's you that's scoring too generously rather than your suggestion that everyone else is too low.
