That sums up things nicely. We'll take a lot of games to get the points, and in doing so, will find ourselves near the bottom. But when push comes to shove, I think we'll just about do it - but nowhere near 9 points clear.Buxtonclaret wrote:Not filled with confidence after today's showing.
But still think we'll be ok with another 3 or 4 points.
Need a building job doing for next season though.

I think we will win a couple more games and draw a couple which will be enough. Bad day at the office today but on we go.

Before the Watford game I said that the run of games at Watford, Hull, Swansea, Sunderland and Boro were not must win games for us by any stretch, but they were in fact mustn't LOSE games. If they all ended up as boring 0-0's and last game on MOTD it would be job done! Unfortunately we've now played 3 of those games and lost 2 and I don't think it bodes well.

Before the Watford game we were 10 points clear of the bottom 3, now with three of those games played (along with Chelsea) we are 9 points clear with only 11 to play.Dark Cloud wrote:Before the Watford game I said that the run of games at Watford, Hull, Swansea, Sunderland and Boro were not must win games for us by any stretch, but they were in fact mustn't LOSE games. Obviously we have given ourselves a half decent chance, but let's not take our survival for granted; the run in will be tough.

I never expected that we'd be 9 points clear at this stage of the season. We really have worked our way into a very good situation.

We have to start winning away all the clubs who are fighting the drop we have to play at there place. It's going to be tough
Re: Are we safe
Not safe at all. I am bricking it. Our home form is going to dip and we have no confidence away from home. I can see us needing to get 3 points against WBA at home and it being a nail biting , Brown trousers time for all us Clarets.

My thoughts exactly. There's nothing at all to suggest our home form is going to dip. It's improved as the season has gone on.ElectroClaret wrote:"Our home form is going to dip...."

We've already played 4 of the other top 6 at home so there's no reason why these games should make a significant difference to our home form.Longsider wrote:I think with home games against Spurs and United our home form is going to dip.

We're not safe but if we go down from here we'll have had to go into free fall.
One day SD will play his best side and we'll be surprised at the amount of possession we achieve.

We never were safe, even when 10 points clear, as I pointed out the other week. It's already been eaten into.Steve1956 wrote:Well another game less to play, are we safe yet?
The plus side is that we have half a dozen or so fixtures where we can pick up draws. 4-5 more draws and we'll JUST about survive. I don't see an away win this season, so a draw vs Sunderland will be a huge point and get us nearer to survival.

West Brom & Stoke are key games towards the end of the season when their players are winding down for the summer 6 points from those to games is achievable and 6 points is all we need imo anymore points we get are a bonus

Re: Are we safe
Clearly we're not safe yet. But that's not the question - the question is "are we likely to stay up?" and the answer to that is "yes". the team are playing well generally, we're scoring goals and have enough confidence.
After Sunderland next week i think we have 9 left of which 4 are away and 5 at home and at worst we'll be 4 points clear going into that run.

Re: Are we safe
We're not safe until we're safe. And we're not safe yet.
Lose our next 3 or 4 few games or just pick up one or two points then
anyone of Palace, Leicester, Watford, Swansea, Bournemouth will be close, if not above us.
Hull might be much close too.
Boro' and Sunderland will also be closer but may still be 5 or more points behind.
We've picked up 2 points in our last 5 games and need to improve on that over the next 5
So, just to repeat. We're not safe, until we're safe.
We've just got to believe that we're capable of getting at least one win over the next five
and one or two draws. If we can manage to do that I'll certainly feel a whole lot better
and more confident we can stay up. Especially if those points come away at Sunderland and Boro'.

Re: Are we safe
Absolutely not, I really do feel it's going to be tough from here, win at Sunderland and Borough, and definitely yes, but there's no guarantees, it's no good keep playing well away and conceding goals in injury time you get nowt, I think we'll probably just make it but I really do feel it will be tough to get the 2 wins i feel we need UTC'S,
Re: Are we safe
At home we've got two games against top six sides and three against mid-table sides.
So far our record (top six) won 1, drawn 1, lost 2.
Mid-table (Bournemouth, Watford, Southampton) won 3, drawn 0, lost 0
Why the panic?

Anyone who isn't convinced, get some money on us to go down.
18/1 at present with Betfair (same as Watford) whilst the likes of Sunderland, Boro and Hull are all odds on to go down.
Palace are 2/1, Swansea are 4/1 and even Leicester are shorter priced than us at 8/1
Stop panicking and enjoy the ride.

Meanwhile, a Division and half below us, our near neighbours down the M65 are third favourites to go down.
Even with their upturn since Agent Coyle was found out, they are definitely NOT safe !

Re: Are we safe
With ten games to go for us & Hull it's interesting to note they have gained just one point on us in the last ten matches (with ten to go) even though we have played 4 out of the last 5 games away. The gap between us and the bottom three was six points, now it's seven.

No.
Not winning can become a habit.
Apart from Sunderland, I don't see any other "certainties" for relegation. Still quite a few games to go.

Hull, Palace, Swansea and Leicester have all showed signs of resurgence but even so they all have ground to make up and have yet to show they will consistently pick up points.
Spijed's post is v interesting because it shows that we've extended our lead away from the bottom over the last 10 games, depsite the aboves' improvement in form and despite us playing only 4 games at home in the league and also playing pretty much all the top 4
