Re: Are we safe
When we beat Southampton we were safe. Our form will have to be LLLLLL... unlikely.
Re: Are we safe
I think we still need 3 points to be sure. So one win or three draws should do it.

Re: Are we safe
We are safe from having to play Blackburn Rovers in the league for a long time,
Re: Are we safe
We'll still be 7-8 points clear after the next three games despite there being clear nervousness among some sections of our support.
It's amazing how Swansea who have only taken one point in the last five matches are suddenly going to go on a winning run.
Likewise, Hull who make our away form look impressive, are going to win a few away games.

Yes.
In no kind of parallel universe are Swansea going to catch us now.
Eight behind and a vastly inferior GD.

And Hull are six behind with five to play. BOTH won't go on a good run.

Re: Are we safe
Baring in mind the goal differences I would say the magic numbers are
Hull 9
Swansea 7
Middlesbrough 9
Sunderland 3
Hull 9
Swansea 7
Middlesbrough 9
Sunderland 3

Dyche wants to finish as high up the table as possible, we won't slack off in a single game. We aren't safe until Factual Frank tells us we are mathematically safe though

Re: Are we safe
Taking GD into account...
Swansea will need 9/15 maximum available points.
Boro will need 13/21 maximum available points.
And that's assuming we don't pick up anything in our remaining 5 games.

Re: Are we safe
Two of the sides in 17-19th need to come close to Champions League form to pass us even if we lose every game.
It won't happen. It's done. Well done Clarets, and yet again we've scored away to a top team. Bodes well.
But if anyone disagrees 50-1 from £100 will pay for an excellent family holiday.

Re: Are we safe
At the time, 10 points could have been munched away like a lion with a lamb chop, especially with our upcoming fixtures. Thankfully, we've grabbed a few points, mixed with the teams at the bottom helping us out as well. What is currently 8 points could have easily been 4 and squeaky bum time. But that's football. I'm feeling a lot more confident we'll do it now.taio wrote:There were plenty of people who weren't panicking telling you that 10 points wasn't naff all so I will take no credit
Re: Are we safe
The sheer weight of numbers came into play when we were ten points clear. Too many teams had too much catching up to do and they all wouldn't put runs together.FactualFrank wrote:At the time, 10 points could have been munched away like a lion with a lamb chop, especially with our upcoming fixtures. Looking at previous seasons, no team with that big of a gap has ever come close to being relegated. Likewise, teams with an eight point gap and five to play have been able to put their feet up for the rest of the season!
Re: Are we safe
Looking back with five games to go we've actually increased our lead from seven to eight points over the same period.
We've taken 5 pts.
Swansea 1 pt.
Hull 6 pts.
Boro 2 pts.
Sunderland 2 pts.

Probably, but another win definitely does it.
Three more points would mean Swansea would need to win 4 of their last 5 to overtake us.

Re: Are we safe
I'm not a betting type, but in truth I'm just annoyed I didn't take the 60-1 which I believe was on offer only a few short weeks ago, because even then I thought they'd got it badly wrong and our chances of going down were much greater then they realised. Some said it was still 40-1 only last Friday! 25-1 now looks rubbish in comparison, but the odds have tumbled for a reason and they continue to tumble, for a reason.Guich wrote:If you're having doubts why not stick a bet on at 25-1? Probably scraped enough wins to just avoid relegation. We have got progressively worse as the season has gone on, a bad sign for next year.

Re: Are we safe
As I don't bet I'm not familiar with how the bookies work out their odds, but is it possible they've looked at the remaining fixtures and come to the conclusion that we are in a good position, hence our good odds?Dark Cloud wrote:I'm not a betting type, but in truth I'm just annoyed I didn't take the 60-1 which I believe was on offer only a few short weeks ago, because even then I thought they'd got it badly wrong and our chances of going down were much greater then they realised. Swansea have Man U and Everton to play in the next two and would it be unreasonable to expect no more than one point from those matches. That would leave Swansea four points behind with two to play and a far inferior goal difference, assuming we get nothing from our next two games.
Likewise, Hull's away form is poor and they have Spurs in their last home game.
If this information has been factored in then it's no surprise why the odds are as generous as they are.

Re: Are we safe
If we get nowt from WBA we could well go down - that is by far our easiest game left and CP is evenby futher our hardest one left.
Hull are not going down. Swansea have to lose at MU and not beat Everton imo. They should then finish on no more than 38, which surely we can manage.

West Brom our easiest? The side who tonked us 4-0 in the reverse fixture?

Or maybe the side that, since becoming safe, has won one out of their last seven and hasn't scored a goal in their last four.FactualFrank wrote:West Brom our easiest? The side who tonked us 4-0 in the reverse fixture?
