A Warm Welcome to the Bee Hole End - a new online home for Burnley fans!

Good morning all – I guess this is welcome to uptheclarets.com and in this particular place on the site, a huge welcome to the Bee Hole End!

Well, what do you know, a site that pops up out of absolutely nowhere and is totally unexpected (ahem)…

Si tu id aeficas, ei venient is a latin phrase which pops up, translated in the film ‘Field of Dreams’ to 'Build it and they will come' and it couldn’t be more true of this new forum. Now that the site has been built, let’s just hope that ‘they will come!

Burnley fans have been calling out for someone to ‘bite the bullet’ and build a platform, which can recreate that virtual pub, where scores of clarets at any given time, would while away the day, discussing, deliberating and debating all things Claret and Blue. We’ve done it before and now that jumping adverts are no-more, hopefully we can get back to what we used to do best.

I remain absolutely convinced, that a well-run, almost ad-free messageboard, more than still has a place with most Burnley supporting internet users. Whilst social media has grown at a great pace over the last ten years or so, forums such as these enable fans to interact in depth. I’ve found such forums invaluable.

Furthermore, I know that a lot of work has been put in behind the scenes here, in testing the site and I know that there’s a hell of a lot of work to do, before parity is truly restored and things are all exactly as they need to be, but as outlined above, forums like this, work best when they’re treated like a pub – you don’t just talk about football at pubs, you talk about a wide range of topics – Well, some pubs open before the last coat of paint has barely set dry and I guess that this is the same with the uptheclarets.com. Come on in, get yourself registered and make yourself comfortable.

A skeleton for the main site is already in place and I think the editor’s intentions are there for all to see…watch it evolve. The forum looks to have been tried and tested thoroughly and I hope Burnley fans, no…football fans, can enjoy what it has to offer.

Thanks to those involved for making this happen, you know who you are!

Cheers folks and …. UP THE CLARETS!

Morning everyone and most of all thank you to the band of brothers who answered the call and got this site up and running in such a short time.

I love the format and appearance, the intuitive feel that the message board has about it.

Sadly, people, this means that you can expect a torrent of drivel from me. Be kind.

Hello everyone and welcome.

I hope everyone spreads the word so we can get all the "older posters" and some fresh blood as well.
Just a few questions for CT, JDROBBO or any other who is ITK of this site.

1. Are you completely leaving CM and no further updates/new news will be on there?
2. Will threads from CM move across or will new ones need creating eg. Score Prediction V Derby need creating?
3. Is this being run by clarets fans and has no powers above to answer to regarding Adverts and pop ups?

I hope this is the first post of many...

oh and UTC

Can i suggest a couple of things for the to do list, one of which is probably already on it?

1. Embedded youtube videos.
2. HTML5 gif/image support. (excellent for mobile users)

Been a small problem with the ads this morning so expect them on soon. But the people who have been testing the board have said they hardly noticed them (top and tail banners). Hopefully that will be the case for all. They are needed to fund the site, not to detract from using it.

Nice one. I'll disable adblock for the site for as long as they stay non-intrusive.

MACCA.

1. I can speak for myself - I will have no further involvement with Clarets Mad. It's too difficult to use. As far as I'm concerned, this will be the place I go to for Burnley news.

Oh ********, I've already forgotten what order your questions were in...

2. New threads will need to be created. 1-1, Arfield, please :)

3. It's being run by Burnley fans. Adverts will be present on the board to fund the site but they will be non-intrusive and if there are any issues you can let a mod know.

If there's any other questions - shout up.

MACCA, I can only answer that question from my own point of view...

1) Yes, I intend on moving across here very quickly, bringing my RTR concept with me!

2) Threads aren't moving across, apart from Guess The Gate, RTR etc... so that's why there'll be a period of transition now from CM to here. CM is not shutting down...more, fizzling out I guess.

3) Absolutely 110% yes, two Burnley fans who have been on ClaretsMad, for nearly fifteen years. There will be a few adverts (and I guess Tony will explain more) but they will be non-intrusive, static and non-offensive. If anyone has a problem with an advert, they can report it and it should get removed. The adverts will come in the most subtle form possible, so that the running costs for the site are just about covered.

From the noise on CM, this has been a long time coming and hopefully plenty new and old will move across and the old style claretsmad debates and banter will begin again. Well done everyone who has worked on this, looking good already.

Very pleased you have made the plunge and set up a new website. Well done to all involved it looks really good so far.
No one minds a few ads its when they pop up all the time making the site unusable they become a problem. As long as the speed stays ok I am sure it will be a great success.
Good luck!

It's only temporarily ad free - the ads are needed to fund it - but once back in place they shouldn't cause any problems. On the main site there are three and on here there will be two, a banner at the top and one at the bottom.

Very pleased for all involved.

I had been using CM for years but after I had 2 accounts mysteriously vanish with no support, I was relegated to spectator in proceedings.

Good luck

Tony, have you considered just popping a donation button up or make one of the ongoing initiatives (goal sweep) you do on the board and take/add on 10% which goes to funding an ad free board? Maybe when you do the grand national sweep or a euros sweep, some of that money can fund the board. Please just keep ads off here.

Great work everyone. It's about time we were freed from the shackles of FootyMad, and I'm glad the thing that makes CM so good (users and content) have all migrated (or in the process of being)
