Re: What book are you reading?
I run a book exchange at the weekends.
I was looking for something to read and I picked up Fever Pitch - Nick Hornby.
I've read it before, but it really is a good book.

Hitchcock wanted to film Greenmantle. I know because I'm reading 'Alfred Hitchcock: A Life in Darkness and Light' by Patrick McGilligan!ewanrob wrote:Greemantle. ..by John Buchan his 2nd book after The 39 Steps. Fabulous writer and great books.
At one time the idea was to do it as a sequel to The 39 Steps, with Robert Donat again in the Hannay role. Later he thought he could use Ingrid Bergman and Cary Grant. Alas it didn't happen. One of the reasons was it cost too much to buy the rights from the Buchan estate.

Weird Scenes inside the Canyon by David McGowan. All about the Laural Canyon music scene in the 60's and early 70's.
Lots of gruesome deaths, drug overdoses, suicides by people who seemed perfectly happy, lawsuits, rip offs, satanic rituals, the Manson family and occasionally some music.
Pleasant bedtime reading.

Bill Bryson - The Road to Little Dribbling. Amusing and informative in parts - not as rewarding as "Notes from a Small Island"

Would make a great film, even today....masterful writer. In it he mentions Mosul and a lot of the other locations currently under siege, identifying even then they were a powder keg ready to blow.Hipper wrote:Hitchcock wanted to film Greenmantle. Tim Shipmans " All out War ", the inside story of the 2016 Referendum Campaign.. I thoroughly recommend it, but if you're a Corbynite who feels strongly about staying in the EU, I'd take your Blood pressure pills before reading it !!

DCI Ryan series by LJ Ross is good reading, it starts on Lindisfarne and links to each subsequent book.Wexford_Claret wrote:Just finished 'The Troubles' by Tim Pat Coogan- very factual and VERY heavy!
Fancy a fiction now, anyone got any good murder mysteries to recommend?
I'm on holiday and reading Joey Barton , a poor choice I'm afraid as he strives to put across how intelligent and worldly wise he is on all and any subject.
Re: What book are you reading?

I will second the Jo Nesbo books featuring Harry Hole. They are excellent. I would add that you would benefit by reading them in chronological order. The first one is The Bat. It is set in Australia. Later ones are set in Scandinavia.

Re: What book are you reading?
Posted on another book thread about Steven King's The Dark Tower series. I've read and re-read them cover to back and just recently finished them again. I'd recommend to anyone who wants somthing a little different, and anyone looking for a new obsession

1421 The year China discovered the world by Gavin Menzies.
Suggests that they were circumnavigating the globe over 200 years before anybody else. Very convincing with lots of evidence you'd struggle to argue with.
