I think I remember reading somewhere their wage bill in their last PL season was a similar amount, £80 million plus.

They have included a huge write-off of £70m+ suspect this is to allow them to manage ffp in the championship - the turnover of players is huge

Need a closer look at this but it looks like Villa have taken a one off hit by revaluing several players under the banner of impairment costs. Bolton did exactly the same a couple of years ago and suffered a transfer embargo as result which will also now happen to Villa.

Don't they get a freebie this season to sort out their finances?
That used to happen, or have they changed the rules?

Re: Villa had losses of £81 million in the last financial year.
The way the new Profit & Sustainability system works is that clubs are now assessed over a three year period, part retrospectively plus a forecast for the current season.
So regarding Villa it's 14/15 (£35m threshold in PL, actual loss £33m) + 15/16 (£35m threshold PL, actual loss £81m) + forecast for 16/17 (£13m threshold in Champioship).
So a three year allowance of £83m measured against an actual loss of £33m + loss of £81m + forecast for 16/17.
Therefore to avoid a transfer embargo they will have to forecast of Profit in excess of £31m for the current year, which clearly ain't going to happen.
Looks like they're taking the one off hit in the hope of getting back on track in future years.......best of luck with that.

How can any rules get passed where you can lose 83m?
It shouldn't be legal.

Ah I didn't realise they included the PL seasons too.
That's going to be interesting then for Sunderland if they drop down, they've got debts of £120million last I read.
How did Newcastle get round it then?

These are the lessons that need to be heeded by our "bet the ranch" brigade. So many teams have fallen foul of the "live now, pay later" attitude.
Our Board should be congratulated at every turn for the way in which they have managed our books.
Promotion on a shoe-string helps massively and any bonuses should go to SD for the way in which he has managed two promotions with comparatively little resources. Long may he stay! R U listening Board? Extend his contract before they likes of Sunderland, Middlesborough, Everton or Villa steal him away.

Newcastle will be in the same boat they spent an astronomical amount of money and Mike Ashley will stop at nothing to get them up.Sidney1st wrote:Ah I didn't realise they included the PL seasons too.

They kept most of there stars and even want another one back in Townsend.
They are a moosive Club and cooperative input interest will be invaluable with there match day revenue its a banker regardless with 40,000+ season ticket holders.
But the advantage of all this is the bigger the revenue the more fillers avenues monies gets channeled into so these people all get a piece of the Newcastle pie
So what happens now is all the loophole FFP rules stunts get pulled leaving everyone still benefiting from a bit of Newcastle pie.
The authorities dont like to stir up a big wasp nest as the coffers get stung "Why I Lad"

Debt isn't taken into account. It is the annual profit and loss accounts that have to fit the financial framework. Though, under the 3 year rule, you can spend like mad one year as long as you can keep below your target in the other two years.
