Match Day Pies
Match Day Pies
Hello,
My name is Jess and I am part of the Sisterhood of the Travelling Pies. The Sisterhood is a blogging website that creates content on pies in all different stadiums in lots of different sports. Within the sisterhood there are four of us all studying Football Business and Marketing at UCFB.
Our degree doesn't just involve assignments and exams, it is also about gaining experience in the Football Industry and meeting people who are profoundly involved in the careers we intend to pursue.
So far we have blogged about Burnley FC and an Exclusive with James Tarkowski which you can find here : http://www.sisterhoodofpies.co.uk/?p=23" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Also, we had a chance to talk to ex Burnley Player Clarke Carlisle which you can find here: http://www.sisterhoodofpies.co.uk/?p=8" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
We would love any feedback in making the site or content better or even any other types of blogs you would want us to pursue.
Many Thanks

Re: Match Day Pies
Personally I don't eat pies, but my son has one at home games and blags £3 off me to for it!! Which in fairness I would have thought was tantamount to being an arrestable offence (mugging?). Maybe they're******* good pies, I don't know or maybe Gordon Ramsey has a "finger" in them somewhere.Whatever.
Re: Match Day Pies
Always pains me parting with £3 for a Hollands on the Turf, Haffners so far superior.
Best sporting event pie I've ever had is the chicken balti at National Speedway Stadium, Manchester.
Very honourable pursuit, keep up the good work.

Sometimes when it's really cold I buy two and keep in my coat pockets to use as hand warmers, that's the only way they are value for money.

Eatin the hot contents of a pie with ur finger half ****** isnt the best
Re: Match Day Pies
Heat a Hollands Pie in the oven at home . When done leave in foil tray and wrap in tinfoil. Put in pocket and head off to the turf. It will keep warm for around an hour and a half. Should easily see locals through to half time. Enjoy.

Cocaine is a better way to get the blood rushing during the game and feeling warmer - better value than the £3 pies too.cutsy123 wrote:Eatin the hot contents of a pie with ur finger half ****** isnt the best

I assumed university types were all into advancing medical science or gaining astronomical knowledge.
Nice to know our local lasses are putting their time to good use exploring the virtues of the Pie.
That said, it is a not a criticism, we need bright and ambitious people at the cutting edge, the upper crust so to speak. keep up the good work girls.
If you find a Road Runner pie on your travels, please let me know.

I got my last ever pie from the longside lower concourse around 12 years back. Literally had some stuff that looked like dirty white snot oozing from the hole in the top....almost gave a new meaning to the time honoured northern phrase "" t' pies 'ave come "".

I'd like real onion and proper cheese in the pies. Alternatively, the idea of real curry in a pie is most appealing....sadly the curry pies that used to be sold were anything but and hence my mocking username.

Re: Match Day Pies
I used to work in the Hollands Pie factory in Bash. No longer eat them. Saw too many men not wash their hands after being to the toilet then head back to the production line. Was 25 year ago mind. Probably same thing happens the world over in food production places. we won't die of it.
These days I get caught out in gastro pubs buying a 'pie', only to find out it only has a lid, and no sides and base. So it's a stew with a pastry top. Shouldn't be allowed.

Whatever happened to the iPie service that was running at the Turf? Pie delivery straight to your seat. Anybody here use the service?

Re: Match Day Pies
Ordering 35 cheese pies for the James Hargreaves stand is not enough - they're hardly ever available at half time.
I may write to the Daily Mail about it
Not everyone wants to eat gristle and offal pies

Either I'm lost for words why you would start a pie thread (like this one also).IndigoLake wrote:I started a thread on pies recently and it managed some 135 posts which isn't bad going. Hopefully it can be a source of inspiration

Or extremely lost for words that it can be a sauce of inspiration, which for me would have to be Brown.

It's on that little patch of heaven where God rested on the 7th day and did a bit of cooking. Thus the Haffners cheese and onion was created.Funkydrummer wrote:Where is Haffners by the way please ?

The factory is just off Accy road. I don't suppose it's open to the public formally but I did see people going to the back door when I worked up there getting some.

Did the old factory get knocked down when all the streets did then? It's sometime since I have been up there.
Re: Match Day Pies
have to say I have always enjoyed the pie & peas in the Bridge before matches, good value and always go for steak & kidney, other family members have had others and enjoyed, cheese & onion always a strange one for me as I remember my mother making large ones for tea regularly but never had peas with it. To this day I can not go for the C&O pie at lunch but thoroughly enjoy on rare occasions in the evening. Plus a pie is not really a pie unless it comes with mushy peas

Best thing to ever happen to the half time pie was the taste test conducted by the fans to decide who supplies the pies for the season.

Yep I remember it well. An hour or so spent in the centre spot sampling various supplies of pies. Didn't Clayton park win but then get bought out by hollands soon after? No Ney Never wrote:Best thing to ever happen to the half time pie was the taste test conducted by the fans to decide who supplies the pies for the season.

Must have been about 11 or 12 years ago, how time flies. I think it was Clayton but would love it to become an annual event. Pies are important to soaking up the alcohol.

Re: Match Day Pies
Just of out semi-interest, how many do we sell on a match day? Wonder how it compares 'per-head' with other clubs...?
Re: Match Day Pies
What's the reason for us not using Haffners pies.
Haffners can't meet the demand?
Too expensive?
Not enough mark up/profit for club?
Haffners have strict no reheat policy?
Can't get them plastic packed/bagged?
Seems a win win to me.
Better tasting/quality pie to eat, and as local as you can. be.

Re: Match Day Pies
At the time they were offered the contract they turned it down based on one postponed match fixture could bankrupt them.
I think at the time our pitch didn't like rain and had a few called off.
