fao computer experts - tablet not charging
Since my knowledge of computer hardware is limited to how to switch it on, maybe it's not an official expert that I need. Just someone who knows more than me.
Google Nexus tablet
My tablet works when plugged into the mains, but the battery is totally flat and isn't charging, even though it looks like it is. My guess is the battery is knackered. It's not the charger, lead, or wall socket, because I've tried it using two different ones of each of those. So if anyone can help out, please:
1. Is it the battery?
2. Can it be fixed?
3. Anyone know anyone who fixes tablets, and what's it likely to cost?

I have had this problem with my iPhone more than once. Turns out the charger port was full off fluff.
Gets enough power to keep it goingn but not to charge
Get a paper clip and stick it in the tablet charger port (not the wall socket) and clean it out. It could be that.

I'll give it a try, inchy.
Three years old, unfortunately, cutsy, so that idea won't work.
Thanks to both of you.

1st try another lead. Those sealed connectors and wires are prone to fail with long term use.
2 DO NOT PROD A METAL PAPERCLIP IN THERE. (VERY Last resort maybe?). You can knacker the contacts.
If swapping the lead does not work - use and Airduster to clean the port. (about £3/£4 for a can online - and useful for cleaning all sorts of electrical stuff).

Re: fao computer experts - tablet not charging
I had the same problem a couple of years ago with a Nexus 7 (first version).
I followed the following instructions that I found on an Android site which I went along with it on a nothing to lose basis and it did work.
I don't have a link but I did keep a hard copy for future reference:
Hope it helps.
1) Plug in your dead N7 to a wall charger and jump immediately to step 2
2) Immediately after plugging it in, press Volume Down and Power at the same time
*This should get you in to the bootloader menu. You may have to try this with different charger or test out the timing in order to get it to work.
3) Once in the bootloader menu, use Volume Down until you see Power Off Device
4) Choose that option with the Power button
5) Once your device is off, unplug the charger and then plug it back in to the device.
6) You should now see the battery meter with your device returning to life

It could be that your micro USB port is knackered. Might be worth replacing (new part £4 from eBay). I am no expert but have replaced a couple on old Hudls using a YouTube video. Brought them back to life nicely.

Same thing happened to me with my first gen nexus. Tried everything but seems the usb port was damaged. I bought a charging cradle/ docking station which charges it using the pins on one of the long edges, works a treat. Think i got mine off ebay for about £20 just need to be sure it would fit.
