SAFE STANDING at the Turf?

Post by Claretforever » Mon Mar 06, 2017 8:09 pm

I'm glad that this subject is getting more media time recently, and would love to have a safe standing end at the Turf personally, just to give people a choice. Orlando City have just opened their new 25,500 capacity stadium in downtown Orlando, which is apparently a new trend for grounds over in the USA as the out of town stadia doesn't work as well. I'm so glad Burnley didn't move from Turf Moor when that was the in thing in the 90's. As soon as the team is struggling people don't make the same effort to get to the games like they do in town centre locations (don't mention the 80's ;) )

Anyway, here are some pics:

Image

3,811 capacity Safe standing end

Built at close to the maximum allowed rake of 33 degrees to keep fans as close to the pitch as possible, and also utilising the aluminium roof to exaggerate the noise.

Image

The 3,811 capacity is 1:1 ratio so the fans aren't packed in like in the stadia in Germany where they take advantage of a person standing taking less room. Not sure whether it's 1.7:1?
Image

Okay it's the Yanks, but it look impressive.

Looks good...is Brendan Flood still involved with them ? He seems to tweet about them now and then.

Looks impressive and hopefully something like that can be implemented in UK

Does Brendon Flood still have ties with Orlando?

Don't know? Perhaps it might spur him into helping bring it to the Turf if he does? If the built a two tiered stand where the CFS is when they rebuild it then they'll have failed in my opinion.

BF was at their game last night apparently, according to 'Fortress Turf Moor' Facebook page.
They wondered if he was checking it out?..

Just as long as it's safe standing and not just standing.

As we all know, standing up at football is very dangerous and needs to be made safe. Walking to the game and sitting down is perfectly safe.

If it does come in let's hope that we don't just open the gates to let anyone in, especially if there's a 1,000 ticketless Man Utd fans outside wanting to get into our 'safe' standing area.

about a billion fans stood through the decades with nothing ever happening to them, then a culture of fan violence began.
The authorities were forced into action, now we all have to sit on our arses foerver more. Football fans brought this on themselves. No,it wont happen at turf moor .

Aluminum roof in Orlando in summer? They'll have more problems than safe standing to worry about unless they hand out free water and have good lightning masts.

It already does at every game.

Why not make it a controlled, safe environment?

Surprised it's 3800, looks bigger than that. Whilst it isn't the most creative of designs and looks a pretty dull new build they've considered the fans and come up with a good end product.

I don't understand why Rail Seating can't be installed now?. Because after all it is seating!

Whilst football fans certainly weren't helping themselves in regards to being dicks at football, weren't a lot of the new regulations introduced after the authorities lied about Hillsborough?

The CFS needs upgrading and so does the Bob Lord really. Safe standing would be a great option, I'd certainly consider it. I think this stadium looks good as well. Not too big, looks quite compact and fits into the local area well.

If we do redevelop the CFS in the next few years it would be great if it was to have a safe standing system.

That's utter ******** for a start.

There have been quite a few crushes with significant loss of lives - Burnden (33 dead), Ibrox (66), Luzhniki (officially 66 also, but said to be many more), Hillsborough (96).

no it isnt "utter crap " as you so rudely state.

the enforced seating only policies were not introduced because of those pre Hillsborough incidents.

Sorry, but that it is absolute nonsense.

You are right in suggesting the all seater rules came in because of Hillsborough in 1989 which, as many knew then and we all know now, had absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with fan violence. So, football fans didn't bring it upon themselves at all.

Will things change? I am more and more confident that they will so I don't think those who wish to stand will be sat on their arses forever. There has been a big change in the last few months in all areas, and that includes Premier League club, to change and I would not be surprised to see some standing introduced in the very near future.

It's working at Celtic, and Spurs are very keen to have safe standing areas in the new White Hart Lane as are Chelsea in the new Stamford Bridge.

As for - no, it won't happen at Turf Moor. I don't think you can say that with any justification whatsoever. If there is a change in legislation then I am convinced it will be something that Burnley Football Club will look at in a very positive light and I could see us having a safe standing area inside our ground.

I truly believing that a return to the terraces of old we wouldn't see another Hillsborough, due to present day views around safety which are anchored in our processes, the CCTV and crowd management. I don't mean the crumbling old terraces with no many crush barriers, I mean the ones in good condition like you get at some of the lower division grounds now.

Regardless of that we are where we are. I don't think walking to a ground and sitting is any safer than walking to a ground and standing either. You can walk to a ground and stand safely providing you club plays football outside the top two divisions, but once you are promoted you fans gain an inability to stand safety at the match? Come on!

Safe standing purely means that people who wish to stand may do so in a safer environment that those which current stand in seated areas. Right now people have at best a knee high barrier in front of them, and I've lost count of how many times I've injured myself when we've scored, never mind those I've seen hurt themselves badly from falling and being knocked when stood up. Introducing a barrier waste high at the from of each row, meaning a shoulder blades high barrier at the back, means you can't be knocked anywhere, and crushing can't happen. Surely that's got to be sensible, right?

After all the effort the club went to painting those wooden seats! Personally I'd rather they did it in the Lower tiers of the Jimmy stands, at least they'd have something positive about them. Do we really want to do the CFS and give 3/4 of the standing area to visiting fans?

I doubt the lower tiers would be suitable should we ever have standing.

I'd love this, but If they introduced it in the Jimmy Mac I'd not occupy the area. Had a ST in there for 1 season and it was 1 season too long. I nearly got pneumonia and Trench foot that season.

I wonder which would be put in place first at TM, a safe standing area or a proper disabled supporters section?

We've already had safe standing at the Turf. It was called the Longside.
