They'll call someone else up and play them for a laugh instead.

Bearing in mind who's in, and who's out, it's clear he should start.

When the lonely and the uneducated turns up on this thread, please ignore so it doesn't get dragged down.

Cheers.

Unless Southgate proves he's different to his predecessors, it'll be Stones and Smalling who start, simply because of the clubs they play for.

The "fresh new approach" will see Cahill play with Stones in Germany so he gets a game seen as he is suspended for the qualifier. Then it will be Smalling & Stones the next game.

I hope Keane doesn't have to go to as many training camps as Heaton before he actually gets minutes. Smalling hasn't played for months and Keane is a better player...

Stones and Smalling will be first in the pecking order. great chance to blood Keane and others though, which will be taken.

Smalling played on Sunday against Middlesbrough and made an awful mistake to gift them their goal.

None of the pundits seemed to notice it, even after the obligatory 7 slow motion replays and I fully expect him to line up against Lithuania.

I know but he was out for months, just because he plays for Man U seems his mistakes are swept under the carpet...

Just done a bit of comparison on the squawka site and our Michael Keane comes out top between himself, Smalling and Stones. Interesting to note though that Ben Gibson ranks slightly higher than Keane (and they share the same birthday too - both born January 01 1993)

http://www.squawka.com/players/chris-sm ... ance-score" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

http://www.squawka.com/players/john-sto ... ance-score" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

For what its worth, I would start with Keane and Stones in the friendly - could be the England partnership for 10+ years to come

No replacement being called up. Over the two games must have an excellent chance of that first cap.

Keane should be blooded in the friendly simply as a precaution, even if there is not intention to start against Lithuania - 1 injury and he is on

Time to call up Ben Mee and play him alongside Keane and Heaton!

The player hard done too by no further call up is Keane's U21 partner Ben Gibson

According to Squawka though, Steve Cook is better than all English defenders other than Cahill...
