If you were Keane, stay or go ?
If you were Keane, stay or go ?
Possibly could become the most sought after defender in the Prem, the highest paid maybe ? possibly encouragement from the board to go as the money we might get for him would allow us to sign a number of other players in different positions and Tarks would take the place, but what would you do ?
Me if I was him sadly I would go to pastures new but not until I had signed a new contract with a massive release clause to ensure the manager and club who made me what I am could progress. He will win medals, he will get caps but I think he is the sort of player who will move for football reasons and not cash.

I'd be off.
I'd thank the club and staff privately and the obligatory message given to the media too.

Go. He's bigger than us. This lad will captain England. He needs to play for a big club. He's easily top six.

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
Keane should go in the Summer..he's probably on £25k or so a week for us and could double or treble that playing for a big Club !
If we insist on him staying, his value will decrease until he could leave for nothing in the Summer of 2018..
From Steven Fletcher, Charlie Austin, Kieron Trippier, and Danny Ings, we must be acquiring a reputation as a Club where you can come, develop, do well, and know that the Club won't stand in your way if a big Club/bigger money comes calling.... benefits all parties..

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
Apparently United get 25% if we sell Keane.
So, for example, if United offer £40 million, they would only be paying £30 million.
Liverpool would therefore have to offer £30 million to match United's £40 million.
I hope that makes sense !!

he should stay and fight on until his legs go. We gave him a big chance, he made the grade, therefore no club should be a bigger lure. He's only young and gets paid a fortune already. Loyalty should count for something one day.

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
Theres a few reasons why he could want to stay. But logically he should move on. And thats not even because right now he could treble his wage.
His stock is high with Burnley. He has progressed and developed with Burnley. But he could be even better at a bigger club. Sure there would be more focus on him but as a good player he will have confidence in his own ability.
Money aside he should move because:
More chance of trophies (that stil matters to some)
More chance of becoming an England STARTER
If his move fails he would always be welcome back here. He would be foolish to stay when his stock is so high.
He came here to get regular football and saw us as a stepping stone. We have more than done that. He should thank us and move on and we then become the opportunity for someone else.
If we keep being the club where promising youngsters want to come and progress then thats only a good thing. All parties benefit. We will keep progressing too and who knows.

Definitely move on...........clearly earmarked for greater things like Cahill was..........doesn't carry a massive ego around and he'd surely go with everyone's best wishes aka Trippier.......
Then it's Tarky's turn to step up......

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
With one year left of contract will the board want sell at the end of season rather than allowing him to run down contract? Until we are certain to be playing Premier League football it is rather academic.
Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
He's got to go. It looks like there will be a few of the big clubs bidding against each other he simply can't turn them down.
As stated it's great for us as we become more of an obvious choice for promising players with an increasing list of players allowed the chance to develop and then progress their career at a bigger club.
As his stock seems to rise almost weekly with ex players talking him up then we should be looking at a massive payday. I'd be disappointed if we don't get 30m given the prices of players now.

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
He'll leave in the summer, I just hope he makes the right footballing decision and isn't wooed the the short term big money like Sinclair or Rodwell. Seems to have a good head on his shoulders though.

Absolutely no chance the board will allow him to run his contract down given the fee we would get in the summer.alicante claret wrote:With one year left of contract will the board want sell at the end of season rather than allowing him to run down contract?

Not in anyway saying Keane is the sort to do this but surely it'd be his call? If he said he wants to stay until the end of his contract and then look at his options, there's not a lot the board could do about it.taio wrote:Absolutely no chance the board will allow him to run his contract down given the fee we would get in the summer.

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
I'll be very surprised if Keane didn't move this summer especially with the Euros in 2018. That said I think Keane will need assurances from potential suitors that he is going to play on a regular basis. He obviously has that at Burnley, however if he went to a bigger club especially one in the top 4 there wouldn't be that guarantee. I personally feel, from a development point of view, he could do with another 12 months with us, but in saying that I hope he's not allowed to run his contract down.
Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
He'll have plenty of options in the summer. He'll also have a huge new salary, there's no chance he'd say I'll stay for another year to run my contract down.
Judging his character and the way he is clearly thankful to Burnley I'd say he's more likely to sign a deal with a release clause in than screw us over running his deal down.
Saying that, he's clearly going anyway so it's irrelevant.

Are Burnley going to progress quickly enough over the next 4 years to match the wages and opportunity to play at the highest level of club football that may be available to him by moving this summer? Probably not.

Re: If you were Keane, stay or go ?
From a financial perspective it is a no brainer. He will easily treble and maybe even quadruple his wages with a move to a top six club. From a football perspective it isn't as clear. There are many examples of younger players getting their dream move to a 'big' club and then finding their development stunted by a lack of playing time. At the end of the day MK will make the decision that is best for him and his family (and his agent) and when he does move on it will be with my gratitude. He came to us as a highly rated young defender and will leave as a full international which can only be a positive selling point for our club when we try and bring other young players in.

It's the Lad's career. He's been brilliant while at burnley but of course the day will soon come when he will join a major Club. And like Trippier, good luck to Michael! He will always be a part of the Claret's history and we should all be proud to watch him grow.

Some mathematicians on here. Manyoo would only PAY us the net as we would owe them the 25%. Any other club would have to pay the 40 million gross so we could pass the 25% on and still achieve the same net amount
